I didn’t actually go in, but the building is very impressive in it’s own merits. The building is architecturally very impressive. It’s position on the hill overlooking Dartmouth really gives it an air of grandeur.

Well worth the visit. Informative amusing guide took us on an interesting journey. The exterior is a little more impressive than the interior spaces we were allowed to visit but the guide brought them to life. The architectural narrative was particularly interesting coming from that profession. We even got to watch some parade ground drilling. Mini bus collection and return to town centre was a most welcome addition to the tour too.

A very informative and interesting 2 hours. The guide was ex navy and really knew his stuff and kept us interested with his navy in-jokes. We even met the Captain of the College and some visiting admirals from abroad.

An amazing place to visit that gives an insight to the Royal Navy and it’s history. An incredible building that never fails to impress. From the west end Senior Gun Room where the cadets eat whilst being down upon by Nelson to the Chapel at the eastern end, the College oozes maritime heritage. A working college that dominates the town, a must see.

I just happened to notice that tours are available on certain days and we were lucky to get places, I understand it can fill up quickly. We has to meet our excellent guide Mike at the Bandstand in Dartmouth for security checks and to board a bus to take us to the collage. Unfortunately the bus forgot us( they are not run by the college) but that wasn't a problem various members of the team arrived in their own cars to deliver us ! This caused the tour to being changed slightly but we wouldn't have realised if Mike hadn't apologised. the tour was interesting and seamless the only disappointment was we were unable to go outside as it was sunset flag lowering by the time we arrived. We were all given a goody bag in the gift shop which I suspect was their apology for our delay, it was appreciated but everyone was so charming no one minded at all. If you are interested in the History of the Navy and this amazing building do visit you will enjoy it.

We booked in advance for this guided tour, it costs £13 or £11.25 for seniors/students. It was a fascinating experience.. picked up by small coach, we had to present photographic ID as security is quite tight. You can take photos on the tour but asked to avoid identifying the cadets.
We arrived on a special day, quite by chance, called HAVOC DAY. Groups of cadets running around the grounds on different routes, with full kit, hauling hefty telegraph poles. Some looked about to collapse, it was amazing to watch at close quarters.
Our guide was an ex officer from the college & spent more than two hours with us, stopping at various points on the parade ground, in front of the captain's house, in the chapel & the museum, in the quarterdeck room & finally outside the college shop, where I bought a handsome navy umbrella as a momento of the day.
This was one of our highlights while staying in Dartmouth. You only get to see a tiny part of the college but you will get a great impression of its architecture & history as well as a glimpse of the cadets & their training...

Hi Kerry,
My step daughter and son-in-low had their wedding at Britannia Royal Naval College a few years ago and I am trying to add it to my family tree, but cannot find it registered in Devon at all.
If you are allowed to can you please ask whoever got married, how I find where the marriage was registered - I do not need to know the couple's names, just a bit more information, so that I can carry on.
I also cannot remember the exact date and the wedding anniversary is very soon, so would like to wish her and my son-in-law well. Thank you so much for your help, if you feel you can.

We are visiting out of season, so the park and ride is not yet operating, so wondering if anyone has any experience or tips on where best to park..

Good Morning TIA,
Thank you for your question. Please be assured that Dartmouth has a large car park in the centre which will assist you with parking out of season.
I trust this will help.
Kind regards,
