This is a historic little area given how much is written and plays off from here. Plaques describe the event and the steps although worn from many years are still evident.

We were in Plymouth to commemorate the Mayflower sailing and used The Mayflower Museum - a great venue overlooking the Mayflower Steps and memorial in The Barbican area - lovely!

Historic area & very well documented with lots of plaques! Debate over where the steps actually were at the time. I heard a story they were on the site of the toilet in the pub nearby!

A site that focuses the mind and acts as a centre for commemoration even though it is not the exact spot of the departure. It certainly has an American feel about it. The area is pedestrian friendly and has a collection of fast food oulets that reflect the demand. Plenty of interpretation boards and a very good bookshop nearby that has even more detailed information!

They have to be seen when in Plymouth. How brave, or desperate, we’re these people to embark on a ship to somewhere They didn’t really know where they were going
Is there much difference to those refugees today? People in search of a better life - then and now
Highly recommend

Here at The Barbican, the Mayflower set sail for the Americas 400 years ago. There's information boards and plaques commemorating the event. A nice bit of history, especially for Americans.

What can you say. It's just a set of steps that led to the original Mayflower. You could get excited about that or you could not. I wasn't.

Good to see this area has been refurbished and keeping history alive. It may not have been the original site where the Mayflower set off from but very close to it, that being sited in the ladies loo of the nearby pub!!
Several plaques on the wall tell of it's history.
Parking can be a bit hit and miss in this area. We parked in the multi storey in town and walked here and onto the Hoe.
Worth a look.

The steps, though refurbished and an estimated location, provide a feeling of nostalgia. I never thought I’d see the place the Mayflower launched for America from. It provided for a bit of education for the kids and a good couple of selfies. Across the street was a terrific museum that explained more than you ever thought there was to know about the Mayflower and it’s passengers.

The Mayflower steps have recently been restored excellent work, did not realise that they may not be the actual steps and that the original location is said to be very close by, at a local pub within line of sight and in the ladies toilets. Its now all lit at night time it`s Plymouth history and our link with USA
