A stunning monument to the love they had for each other. Beautiful artistry throughout the building! Don’t forget to look up. Beautiful artefacts from around the world well preserved and presented. Well worth the visit!

This museum was an absolute delight! Small, intimate, and full to bursting with interesting art. There was a very talented pianist playing live music in the main room, which added a lovely air of charm to the experience. It has a beautiful view of the ocean from the windows, and a cute garden out front. Absolutely recommend.

Russell-Cotes Art Gallery & Museum is right on the promenade and is a love token to R-C's wife. The pair travelled the world and, in true Victorian fashion, brought back wonderful paintings and artefacts. But there are a lot of 'home grown' items as well, mainly reflected in British artists. It was very good to see so many female artists (such as Lucy Kemp-Welsh). We are even encouraged to sit on some of the furniture to gaze out across the lovely garden, across to beach and the sea as the R-Cs would have done in their day. Very nice cafe too

Just magnificent. The building itself is extraordinary, clearly designed by an absolute perfectionist. Every corner has been carefully designed and decorated. The art collection is superb. I loved the large Edwin Long paintings and the whole house has interesting works throughout. I particularly like that they have booklets in each room giving information about each of the works exhibited, I much prefer that to an audio tour. The staff/volunteers were very welcoming and knowledgable. It's one of those rare rich people's houses that I'd actually quite like to have lived in. If I could give it 6 marks I would.

If you love beautiful things then a visit here is a must. Pictures, sculptures, objets d'art, furnishings, architecture all combine to a wonderful experience. As you walk through from the cafe you enter another world. The central car park is about three minutes walk away. The cafe is nice and not over-priced.

We visited the Russel-Cotes primarily to see the art, but really enjoyed the whole experience. The introductory video was excellent and really explained how the museum came to be. It’s a fantastic collection and house that was left to the people of Bournemouth. Visiting children seemed to be enjoying it too and there are some dressing up costumes and plenty to engage them. The cafe offers a limited selection of food and drink. There was a pianist playing in the gallery and everyone was enjoying the amazing things to see. Excellent shop.
The only problem we found was that there weren’t enough of the excellent laminated booklets describing the exhibits in the rooms.

We were prompted to visit after watching a recent t.v. programme which featured this museum. You enter the museum through the attractive gardens overlooking the sea which was sparkling blue. There is certainly a lot to look at and explore inside. We were lucky to be there while the Lucy Kemp-Welch exhibition was on. Her paintings of horses were incredible and she was so prolific you can buy the large hard backed book containing them all. The house is full of fascinating objects that were collected during the family’s world travels. We really enjoyed the excellent piano player - it really added to the atmosphere. There are lots of different rooms filled with artefacts and a lovely staircase leading up to a gallery. There is a pleasant indoor cafe and shop.
We had a pre booked afternoon tea which we ate on the lovely terrace overlooking the sea. £35 for 2. Apart from a stained tea cup and only getting one teaspoon between us and crusts left on all the sandwiches it was quite nice. It gave me lots of energy to walk all the way home to Poole!

Stunning house and art collection. Gorgeous views across the bay with comfy seats from which to admire them. Great that there is an attractive garden, so with a dog we could take turns to visit. We found the Central Car Park the cheapest nearby option.

We're big fans of the Russell-Cotes and often visit when in the area. We'd planned our lunch and afternoon around visiting to see the Lucy Kemp-Welch exhibition.
On a hot Sunday at the end of June we arrived at 1.45 to find no lunchtime food available *at all*. Nothing on the menu that fitted that description was available, only "afternoon tea" items.
The gallery, museum and temporary exhibition were as great as always but the visit was really marred, having had our expectations set that we could have lunch there. If sandwiches or jacket potatoes can't be provided reliably, please don't advertise them. The lovely staff on the front desk were apologetic and said that they'd had this feedback before.
This review could so easily have been five stars.
We will definitely visit again but will be eating elsewhere.

Is the art gallery and museum suitable for a disabled person with limited use of there legs, wheel chair walking frame used.
Russell-Cotes
Bournemouth
Dear Kintyparr
We very much hope you will find the Russell-Cotes suitable for access with a wheel chair and walking frame. There is lift access from the entrance to the cafe and ground floor of the historic house and also to the Edwardian galleries where the current exhibition "Alphonse Mucha: In Quest of Beathy" is on. The upstairs original bedroom floor of the 1901 historic house does not have lift access and access is via the main stairs only.
We would strongly recommend that you approach via Bath Road car park South rather than Russell Cotes Road. The access via East Cliff Promenade is shorter and much less steep. Further details on this recommended route can be found on our website.

Is this a suitable place to take a lady who uses a walking frame, or sometimes a wheel chair? She has very limited ability and finds steps really hard work. Thank you for your review.
Russell-Cotes
Bournemouth
Dear 21cyndyc
The Russell-Cotes is wheel chair accessible apart from the top floor of the historic house which is only accessible via the main stairs. Please do follow our advice on the webiste regarding your route of approach. The route from Bath Road car park South shorter and less steep than that from Russell-Cotes road which is not recommended.
