We received a warm welcome and clear instructions when we entered by a lovely lady. However, we were left speechless on entering the house at the opulence, the grandeur and the beauty of each room.
There was so many wonderful exhibits and all breathtaking from the ceiling down to the floor
The wonderful works of art were out of this world and took time to absorb.
The gardens were out of this world and a delight.
The cafe served the best cheese scones too and so worth trying.
A must go to when visiting Bournemouth

So much to see here, make sure you leave enough time. When I visited on bank holiday morning I was the first in and practically had the place to myself for an hour and a half. Take your time and use the guide books in each room. Also enjoyed a lovely coffee and cake in the cafe and a walk round the gardens. Very close to the pier area but the contrast with the noise and litter out there could not have been greater; this is a tranquil spot to visit an unusual and eclectic collection. Well worth putting some time aside to visit (lots of activities throughout the museum for children as well). The staff were helpful, polite and informative but not intrusive. I will go back when I next visit the area - there are bound to be many things I missed.

Well!! This place is fantastic. So many wonderful Victorian paintings and such a great story of how it came about. The staff naturally love working here, who wouldn't !

A curious small museum reflecting the high Victorian taste of its founders. While the collection lacks any great draw apart from a lovely Rossetti, its eclectic and random collection is never dull and often interesting. Nice cafe and great sea views are a plus.

This was a nice afternoon visit, but we didn’t realise that a lot of the property was just about art pictures. There were plenty of rooms that just kept appearing everywhere also. The cafe was nice and clean for a drink or food also.

A lovely museum and art gallery just yards away from Bournemouth pier. Beautiful art, lovely little garden, lovely cafe (you don’t need to go into the museum to just visit the cafe). The staff were lovely also.

One of the few reasons for visiting Bournemouth. An Edwardian mansion filled with works of art, sculpture and furniture. Beautiful gardens. I was lucky to be the only taker for a guided tour of the current exhibition so got individual attention

Is it possible to pay when you get there or do you need to book tickets ahead? Thanks

The entry charge for the Russell-Cotes is £6 gift aided per adult. The entry charge is for the historic house including the exhibition "Alphonse Mucha: In Quest of Beauty" in the Edwardiangalleries. There is no charge for the shop, cafe and cafe gallery where the current exhibition is "Reflections: 95 years of the Bournemouth Arts Club" or the orientation gallery where the current exhibition is "Spotlight on Ganesha".

Is the art gallery and museum suitable for a disabled person with limited use of there legs, wheel chair walking frame used.
Skrevet 11. april 2015
Dear Kintyparr
We very much hope you will find the Russell-Cotes suitable for access with a wheel chair and walking frame. There is lift access from the entrance to the cafe and ground floor of the historic house and also to the Edwardian galleries where the current exhibition "Alphonse Mucha: In Quest of Beathy" is on. The upstairs original bedroom floor of the 1901 historic house does not have lift access and access is via the main stairs only.
We would strongly recommend that you approach via Bath Road car park South rather than Russell Cotes Road. The access via East Cliff Promenade is shorter and much less steep. Further details on this recommended route can be found on our website.

Is this a suitable place to take a lady who uses a walking frame, or sometimes a wheel chair? She has very limited ability and finds steps really hard work. Thank you for your review.
Skrevet 11. april 2015
Dear 21cyndyc
The Russell-Cotes is wheel chair accessible apart from the top floor of the historic house which is only accessible via the main stairs. Please do follow our advice on the webiste regarding your route of approach. The route from Bath Road car park South shorter and less steep than that from Russell-Cotes road which is not recommended.
