For sure this is a must for families in this area. We are big cyclers and the whole family had gotten worn out by supper but in a great way. We like the look of Go Ape though it looks way scary, our kids may be too young.

Great forest park with selected spots to park, though some are not cheap. Good walks and in some locations there are activities. Something for everyone, just research your spot.

We visited Thetford forest in October in our motor home with two springer spaniels as we wanted somewhere different to take them, where there was lots of opportunities to walk them.

We stayed at the caravan park which was the base of the Desert Rats during the war. There is a memorial outside featuring a tank and some trails around the woods with information on the subject and a small museum dedicated to the desert rats and their campaign

The woodland walks are excellent with proper pathways cut through the trees. This is a great place for dogs and for spotting odd fungi and flowers. Also there are lots of squirrels which play around the site and forage for nuts.

The pitches are very level and well spaced apart so you are not intruding on anyone else’s space.

The whole experience was so relaxing ( after walking the dogs for miles)! Such a peaceful place even when there are lots of caravans there.
Also on site there is a caravan storage compound, useful if you want to make a base there.

The site is very well organised and maintained, very neat and tidy with all facilities on hand. We didn’t use any of the facilities though as our motor home is fully functional..
The site manager was a very helpful friendly person who gave us all the information we needed.
We will definitely be returning next season.

This is a huge forest and there is loads to do. We went with a baby in a pushchair and a three year old, and it was very accessible for both of them. We went on the gruffalo trail which was great, once we had found it! Even though we had a leaflet to tell us where it started it wasn't well signposted. So we went back to the information point and the lady in there really wasn't helpful as she didn't know anything about it......maybe a lack of training! It was the first weekend of the second lockdown when we visited and I felt that the café, although open for takeaway, was missing a trick. They could have had soup and simple hot thinks like baked potatoes as the sandwich selection was rather boring.
However, we really enjoyed our time here and there is certainly enough to do to keep everyone happy especially walkers and cyclists

A forest with some sort of hyper-powerful mycelium in the ground producing spectacular mushrooms. In a certain are I in one year found 126 penny buns alone! It took four bags to carry that out. This year I was not so fortunate with just ten penny buns, but I did find an orange birch bolete which I have never seen before AND I found a first for the UK in the form of a leccinum percandidum here once as well.

Away from the ground, the forest is incredible and offers for nature observers the chance to observe red deer, roe deer, muntjac deer, hares, foxes, nearby you can find stone-curlews and long-eared owls and goshawks tour the skies above.

In all a wonderful place, and my favourite forest. Forestry England has made this into a wonderful place.

We greatly enjoyed spending a couple of hours wandering round some of the trails in the forest and looking at the trees, insects and Highland cattle. Lovely warm day with strong sunshine made for some good photo conditions. Read up on Thetford Forest later in Wikipedia and were amazed by the background to it - planted as a strategic resource replenishment after the First World War. Lovely place to visit.

We were staying in The Bull Inn at Barton Mills and took a trip to the forest for a leisurely walk. It is a lovely place with a number of well maintained picnic areas. We followed the well marked routes and had a lovely walk in the sunshine. Highly recommended

Forestry England have turned this into a must-visit attraction and it probably didn’t help that we were there on an August Bank Holiday Monday so it was extremely busy. We basically wanted to ride some of the trails on our bikes (a hybrid and a cyclocross bike respectively) and there were long queues to get into the main car park so we went into Brandon Country Park instead - and paid just £3 for a full day’s parking instead of £12!) It meant a longer ride to get onto the bulk of the marked trails, and the Poachers Trail out from the Brandon car park is nice but has deep sandy sections in places which were a challenge for our bikes. It also meant we accessed the bike trails on the east (Thetford) side of the main road further away from the main car park, which did mean we met many fewer walkers on the mixed-use paths. It’s worth noting too that the majority of the bike trails are really designed for mountain bikes not hybrids (& are clearly a lot of fun and are rightly heavily-used), and that if you hit some of the trails in obscure places and turn the ‘wrong’ way along them you then meet loads of mountain bikers coming the other way who are exasperated as they think you’re deliberately ignoring one-way signs. For all that this is a good place to come with a surprising range of scenery (not just dense forest), a striking range of large forest sculptures (a temporary exhibition), plenty of nature interpretation boards, a Go Ape course, Forest Segways to hire and more - and the high-quality Heritage Trail to get onto if you can.

This is a fantastic place usually and my family love it. We went in August and had super bike ride. We usually the have a coffee, ice-cream and then play on the play equipment. Nearing the end of August most of the play equipment was shut. Not all of it though which was of counter benefit because it meant what was open was very busy. Most other park areas seem open so I was a bit baffled as to why Thetford have closed most of theirs.
You could still pay for Go Ape and a bounce area. Shame most of park was off limits

Stopped here for a comfort break for an hour on a long journey. Very well managed and good facilities all suitable for Covid safe encounters. Will certainly be back to explore more fully one day!
