Not sure what all the fuss is about. It’s a small old dusty museum about fishing. It was pretty busy too but it is peak season. The best parts were the actual building with the stained glass window and that it’s free.

Museum in old chapel celebrates the life of local boats and local fishing industry characters. Definitely worth a visit, and it’s free.

This could well be a unique museum in Britain....to fishing. But it works.
It's housed in an old church in the old part of town and it's well laid out.
There is a fishing boat inside the building and hundreds of photographs and models and a TV with a film running.
The museum outlines the history of fishing in this seaside town and shows photos of many of those engaged in this dangerous profession.
There is a small retail place inside and a huge barrel into which you can put a donation as the museum is FREE.

Really worth going.
We were in the town for the day. This place is a gem full of interesting things. The place is small though full of things to look and explore.

Located right next door to the Shipwreck Museum, right at the end of the old town, is the Fisherman's Museum.
It seems fitting that Hastings has a Fisherman's Museum, given how absolutely crucial fishing has been to the town over the centuries.
This building has attached to it (or near enough) a number of "Net Shops" - the local name for what are basically 2-3 storied wooden buildings dating from the 1800s.
They came about because back in the day when Hastings relied almost solely on fishing, a shortage of beach space meant that fishermen had to create a new, less space-heavy storage solution for all their nets.
Fishermen were only looking at a space of 8/9ft², and so the decision was taken to build up, and not out, leaving Hastings with these brilliant buildings that are unique Hastings alone - a fact that has helped them achieve Grade II listed status. It is through the hard work of volunteers, English Heritage and even the local authority that these buildings have survived.
Inside the actual museum and you see immediately greeted by a hulking great boat that yo can climb up into. It's very cool. Around the perimeter of this boat are many images and a few artefacts from Hastings' maritime past - including some of 6 colourful characters from times past. It's a charming little place.
There is a smaller room off to one side which continues the theme from the larger room, and it was in here that I came across my favourite part of the museum. Up on the wall is a blink-and-you'll-miss-it exhibit that tells the story of a local woman, back in the 1960s, who bucked the trend by becoming a fisher(wo)man and entering various fishing competitions, much to the derision of the men folk.
She was rewarded for her thick skin when she caught an impressive fish that, once it was gutted, revealed a beautiful, tiny gold coin that it had swallowed out at sea. The coin was Guatemalan (4 Raeles), and the actual coin sits proudly in a display frame, along with the full remarkable story, in the Fisherman's Museum.
There is a small shop and/or donation point on the way out, should you wish, and i was happy to do both.
For the record, this is another volunteer run affair, and as such, it should be lauded even more. A brilliant place.

Really enjoyed this small free museum. Lots of fishing related artworks to look at and you are able to go on the deck of a full sized local fishing boat.

We weren't going to bother with this. I thought it would be dull. Completely wrong.
This is an excellently laid out museum in two large-ish rooms.
Don't miss climbing onto the boat, or the video in the second room which makes everyone gasp.
Interesting. Moving. Loved it.

Small museum, but well worth the visit. So much to read and learn about characters wishing the Hastings fishing industry. Lots of artefacts too. Allow 1 hr to do it justice and don’t forget to leave a donation in the box as entrance is free.
