My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our five mile walk around Rye Harbour Nature Reserve this morning along the tarmac paths and network of grassy paths. The sun was shining and it was a bit windy. The sights of nature were beautiful with the sad history story of Mary Stanford Lifeboat. It was a lovely walk.

A lovely dog walk. Great sea views and lots of bird watching. There are different routes depending on how long you want to Maeterlinck your walk.

We parked for a donation, which was good. My mum is in a wheelchair & my dad walks with a stick. The access is good for wheelchairs and they are plenty of seats for my dad to take a rest. We walked down as far as the beach.

Beautiful walks, amazing views and so many birds, lucky to see an Osprey on 2 days, the visitor centre serves lovely coffee and you can use their binoculars whilst you sit and drink your coffee, you never know what birds or flora and fauna you may spot. Bring walking shoes
update- sept 24 - visited again, it never ceases us how much we see and hear - definitely recommend visiting no matter what the weather is like.

We spent some time here on a recent break in Rye. The nature reserve is great, it has pill boxes to go in, a great beach and hides where you can see lots of different birds. The café is a good place for lunch and the gift shop sells a lot of excellent items including books and high-quality toys. Parking is free.

If you are visiting rye and finding it a little busy then this is a great escape.
It has free parking, a excellent visitor center and great circler walks. Of course very good for bird watching
Unexpected surprise was the pill boxes that you can go inside.

We hadn’t planned to come and I am very glad we did. No charge to park but a charitable donation is fair. Not too busy at 10.30 on a Sunday on one of the nicest days of the year. A shortish walk on a concrete path to the reserve centre: lovely cafe and interpretation of the history and natural qualities. Tremendous views at the end of the walk. Also saw some seals basking which was lovely. Highly recommend. A real family affair with people of all ages.

Wow this is definitely a stunning area and we are multi generational from 6 to 72 . Loved the historical part of the area . Also thank you for the parking by donation which is pretty amazing in this difficult time . Kids loved putting all the coins in the funny collection box . If more people could donate even a little would mean this may continue for the future . A few places to eat but wasn’t that fussed by the harbour bar and restaurant sadly . The memorial is stunning in its simplicity. Would highly recommend. There’s also toilets . As we were leaving an icecream van arrived.

Great day trip by train from London to medieval village of Rye. Cobblestone streets give charm to Rye. There is a medieval tower and church. There also a harbor to visit but on this trip we did not go there. We would also recommend Marino's Fish & Chips. We visited many stores and the local art museum.

Lovely reserve with circular walks of different lengths and informative info boards on the way around. Great views across the estuary and out to sea. Modern visitors centre with nice cafe and good views.

Yes there are public toilets available in the Nature Reserve Visitor Centre.

Hi there, the Rye Harbour Nature Reserve is EXTREMELY dog friendly, to the point of the Discovery Centre allowing dogs in to sit with their owners when having a cuppa and cake! Needless to say, dogs must be on a lead due to the birds and seals all over the place!! There are many doggy doo bins around the reserve for convenience as well.

Hello,
We are a church group who have a memorial service in Horns Cross on the morning of the 24th September. We would like to come afterwards to have lunch at and explore Rye Harbour. Some members are not too mobile which is why Rye itself is not really feasible but when my husband and I came to explore on Saturday the car park had a horizontal bar at a height not permitting a coach to enter. We planned to be at the harbour for about 4 hours. I know that the coach can turn round where the bus does but is there anywhere the coach could park in the event the bar is not raised at the time?
I would also like to know whether the public toilets will be open then. A contact would be very useful.
Thank you for your attention,
Monica Biggs (Mrs.)

I suggest that you contact the Tourism office for these questions, which I believe is based in the old Town Hall. Ali

Hi, does anyone know if the car park is open for visitors? Thank you.
Skrevet 23. juli 2020
Yes it is, but public toilets not yet open.
Skrevet 25. juli 2020
It's free entry to the nature reserve, but we would appreciate a donation or purchase in our shop to help with running the reserve.
Thank-you
Barry

Can you walk there from the centre of Rye?
Skrevet 20. april 2018
It is a lovely walk from the town, on leaving Rye on the A259 towards Hastings, after about 600 metres from the roundabout with the chippie on the corner, look for Rye Harbour Road on your left. Go along this road and cross the Brede Lock after just 100 metres. Then directly look for the gate on the right, not the one signed for the B&B. Then follow this lovely path all the way to Rye Harbour village and then enjpy the whole of the Nature Reserve. Have fun.
