This was only our second time visiting this particular racecourse, and we really should go more often. It is quite a long drive for us but , having attended the hunter Chase meeting on a Friday night, it definitely won’t be as long before we are back.
Two things to get out of the way early, the price of drinks and access around the course. £7.50 a pint for a low-key amateur jockey meeting did seem a bit much but I suppose this is par for the course. What was disappointing though is that at every turn, there was security, ensuring , you could barely watch a race from outside whilst holding a drink. I understand there may be reasons for this but we go to lots of courses and that is not the case any other one I can think of.
That out of the way, what an amphitheatre for sport! the views through your binoculars as you watch, the races are spectacular and probably unrivalled anywhere else in the country. The course itself is beautifully maintained and it recognises its past champions very well indeed.
All the staff we came across were very helpful and friendly, and we enjoyed the 20 minute walk to and from the town rather than getting a taxi.

As an annual member at the racecourse I can't shout it's praises loud enough, the festival was amazing as always and the higher control of crowds this year with the max capacity being decreased made it a much greater experience than the previous year. I can't wait to be back in April for the midweek meeting

Good day at the races (for some one who had never been before).
Good selection of food to purchase, but queues were long even later in the day.

Too many rules, regulations and ridiculous expense!! Even though drinks are served in plastic cups (and at a ridiculous price - 2 x double rum & cokes cost £31.80!!) You can't even take your drinks outside onto the course ANYWHERE. The whole point of attending was to see the thrill of being up close to the horse racing, WITH my drink!
It's just another reason to make you drink more because you are eager to get back outside for the next race. Bars are WAY too busy and understaffed.
The bus trip drop off car park is a good 1/4 mile from the entrance and it was just MUD MUD MUD, So many people in high end clothes with ruined shoes and splashed up clothes. They could at least put some boards down to walk on!!
We got Tattershall tickets (mid-range) but there were still loads of places we couldn't go in, which were "Club only." I honestly wouldn't bother to upgrade to Tatts because they're still "low class tickets."
The venue is breathtaking in size and upkeep, it was very clean and there were constantly staff cleaning around etc, that is the one positive. Glad I've attended to tick off my bucket list but I wouldn't go again. Too overpriced and TOO busy.

The bus service from the train station . Too the race course is very badly organized it took 1hour 10 mins on gold cup day for the bus too do a journey of about 2 miles .don’t they understand. On race days they need bus lanes so that it runs smoothly. And also 4 pounds is way over priced for a sham service

Visited for the November meeting and booked hospitality in the ‘Festival’restaurant. Food was ok without being great but the price of the wine has gone up and up over the years. Around £130 for bottle of Veuve! All other wine way overpriced. The racing is good but we shall stick to going to York racecourse for hospitality as value for money is way better. Same bottle of champagne in restaurant overlooking the finish line at their top meeting , ‘Ebor festival’ was just over £80.

Very disappointed. Having been to the festival a few times this was my worse experience . I bought tickets for tattersalls and arrived early. I am watching what I eat and dislike fast food so took fruit. At the bag search the following items were taken off me and thrown in the bin. Banana, apple, strawberries, bottle water , packet cough sweets, packet of boiled sweets , 2 x pastries. I protested but it was too late. Inside there was no seating, queues were horrendous to get anything. Then after purchasing a beer in plastic glass plus gin and tonic at not far short of £20 I was told had to be consumed inside so watched race on tv. I did witness some pretty appalling behaviour including vomiting and urinating in public places but don’t blame the staff who were unable to control many groups. Needless to say won’t go again.

Cheltenham festival changes for whatever reason, if your successful at buying an overpriced pint although we know the cost before buying so cannot moan about that it’s the being stopped wherever you are going to be told no alcohol allowed on this bit that bit near course etc etc even stopped with a can ok coke, so this causes chaos as everyone stays near bars so pointless. Our last time after many years of supporting the jockey club and the festival. Gone are the days of enjoying a pint while watching the race unless on a tv so may as well stay at home or your local
Pub. On another note the amount of drug taking in the toilets is unbelievable surely a few police dogs and honesty box on entry will help solve some of this.

The hotel was good, transfers on time but our upgrade to the Legends Lounge disappointing, point to note is there is no disability toilet or facilities no warnig about the amount of stairs to climb, it is very cramped and very cold. There are only 2 TV screens which are small, and the most annoying complaint we have is people getting into the Lounge without badges and getting free drinks, I brought this to the attention of the rep who after a few discussions asked a group of women to leave, security not interested in checking badges, this lounge is not appropriate for Ladies Day more like a stag do venue i would say there was only about 8 Ladies in the lounge until the group were let in then a group from Talk Sport. People were bumping into tables knocking drinks over red wine spilt on my coat, tables not being cleaned or wiped down rubbish beige thrown onto the floor.
The other misleading advertise to get you to book this Lounge is the £25 free bet offer with star bets this does not state you have to match it nor does it stat you have to sign up on line send proof of residence and either a passport or driving licence proof. I spoke to Racingbreaks rep Gina and Ed on this as this is totally unacceptable and misleading i now see that they have now amended this to state you have to match £25 after I informed them, I also spoke to other guests and they agreed and didn't bother to go through all the malarkey.
I would certainly not recommend this 4m wide Lounge for the cost.
Would I book with Racingbreaks again

Much improved facilities since the renovation particularly around the paddock area but same old problem...cans of awful wine (£2 in a shop) being sold for either £9 or £12 and you know already...a pint of Guinness at £7.50 etc etc...thankfully they've ditched the cardboard cup...the racing...fantastic just don't treat us like drunken mugs please

I am sorry I can't help with time - that would be dependent on the race times. Parking is easy, but obviously there is a limited on how many people are visiting. Main parking areas are quite close to the entrance. Search following for details: cheltenham festival parking map

Something warm, other than that I would suggest that anything reasonably smart would do - this is not Ladies Day - this is just a meeting and I guess there is no real dress code applied on a early spring day but the cold wind and good chance of rain will dictate warm and wet gear.

We are getting the Nation Express bus to the festival and I'm just wondering where you get dropped off? Will it be in an enormous field where my shoes will get wrecked? Travelling down for the Gold Cup

If you take a look on the Google satellite images of the area near to the A435 and the B4075 you will see that the area has a fantastic infrastructure for vehicles. I would guess that you will be dropped-off near to the Centaur wher most of the bars and hospitality suites are situated. They are unlike to drop you in the centre of a field because they want your money not your complains. I would contact National Express and ask them where the drop-off and collection points are then you can find them on the site map. See how to get to cheltenham racecourse on Google

Going to the festival for the first time this year and bought a club enclosure ticket. Is there seating available anywhere? have seen the guinness grandstand but its an extra cost.

Club enclosure tickets also give you entry to the Centaur Bar where there is a lot of seating and also where the bands play after the meeting. Gets very busy but lively atmosphere. Hope this helps.

Hi I went to Cheltenham racecourse at the weekend, car parks were full so paid to park in a manor house that backed onto the racecourse car parks. Does anyone know the name of this place? They had a website that I wanted to check out for the 2019 festival and I have forgotten the name of the place!

Sorry don’t know name but I know where you were ...I would suggest you go at least 2 hours before the first and park there again ...I find these spaces are a premium because you will always be delayed in the course official areas ..good luck I say 2 Hours because I always use 3 hours and spend an hour in the car to catch up with the form in my Racing Post ..enjoy
