An amazing place overlooking the river Wye and well maintained. Excellent tree species. Friendly person on reception. Would also recommend the walled gardens. Very peaceful.

We were staying in Hereford and wanted somewhere to have a walk as it was a lovely warm day and saw this walk on the national trust places to visit in Hereford
It was a quite hard to find as we didn't know the area very well,but we were not disappointed when we got there. It is very beautiful with the river Wye and lots of trees
The paths were quiet narrow in some places but manageable. We loved the fresh air and it wasn't overly busy
Next time we go I would take a picnic a lovely place to relax and get some exercise

Book ahead!
Limoncello serves a selection of traditional Italian food!
The menu caters for vegetarians, and kitchen is able to adapt dishes for vegans.
The risotto is gf!
The waiting staff were accommodating, friendly and helpful. We were served by Georgi who’s knowledge and understanding of the menu helped us decide on food we both thoroughly enjoyed. I had the pumpkin gnocchi, my partner the Ragu.
I’ll be back for the classy vibe, great service and the lasagna (it looked great!)

These National Trust gardens are lovely, perhaps particularly in the spring, holding many bulbs including daffs, snowdrops, primroses and even some fritillaries. Some plants are well labelled with some interpretation. The garden runs along the riverbank. The house, with which they were once associated is now a private care home. There is a bird hide with active feeder. The walled garden is actively gardened and a lovely sheltered space.

Went for walk around the gardens 28 February. Beautiful snowdrops and daffodils and a few primroses. Lovely area by the river, very peaceful with birds singing.
Toilets available but no refreshments.

We went to see the snowdrops and were not disappointed.The Nat.Trust suggestions of where to see snowdrops does not include this property.There were great swathes of the flowers all over the hillsides and flat areas.They have many different varieties.As stated the area is not for people who have mobility problem or those in wheelchairs due to the uneven ground and the tree roots.
There are clean multi purpose toilets but no tea/coffee tent which surprises me as that could be a very good income for the trust.Refreshments at the top of the incline would be very welcome.
Lots of bird life to see and hear and bird hide by the river with binoculars.
It was a lovely sunny day and lots of people there.We didnt go to the walled garden.

A woodland wilderness, breath taking views of the River Wye and distant hills. Lots of places to sit and admire the views. Then after the woods take in the amazing walled garden. Inspirational!

What a delightful place, from the warm welcome to the walk, views and walled garden.
We saw the Kingfisher who was very active along the river.
The walled garden was beautiful, very colourful for this time of year.

We arrived just after Sunday lunch and were expecting there to be more cars in the carpark.
A lovely walk, although not as big a place as we were expecting.
We would have had a cuppa had the tearoom been open but there was no sign of it
A nice walk by the river and we especially liked the descriptions of the trees
That said we would have been disappointed if we had paid to go in. As NT members it was a lovely walk

Great place for a walk in the woods and along the river. Walk itself around 45-60 minutes but lots of places to pause, sit and enjoy the view. Most of the walk in woodland with great paths. Childrens activities to do along the way. Half way down when you are closest to the river there are deck chairs to lounge in, garden games and a wooden play area with a great swing which was enjoyed by young and old.
No cafe so bring a picnic to enjoy on the picnic tables in the orchard.

The house is owned by the National Trust, I believe, but is not open to the public. It is run as a Nursing Home and has been for many years. The garden is well worth a visit especially in the spring. Not so easy for the less mobile due to the slopes.

How far is the walk along the river? How long does the river circular walk take?

30 mins if you wish to speed round, a couple of hours if the sun is out and you decide to sit on a deckchair and watch the Wye eddy past you. Its easy going but would say not ideal for wheelchair or someone who struggles with uneven ground. Absolutely brilliant if you are a child and love to clamber and climb.
