It's been at least 10-years since I last visited The Weir Garden and I am sorry to say that it's less garden and more "managed rewilding". There are some stunning views from parts of the garden and the walled garden is a great addition. However, I was saddened by the lack of "life" in the garden. During my visit today I didn't hear any bird song. Just a crow from the trees on the opposite side of the river and a seagul overhead. There is also a surprising lack of insect life. For a garden with a lot of "weeds" I would have thought the intention would be to encourage biodiversity but it felt like the exact opposite had been achieved. Even some of the specimen planting is being overtaken by bindweed, nettles, brambles, knotweed, ragwort and willow herb to name but a few of the invasive species. In conclusion, I am sorry to say but this garden really isn't worth the entry fee in it's current state.

This place did have some fine views across the Wye but little else to be honest except for the kitchen gardens which did have some rows of wild flowers as well as much vegetable but I would struggle to justify the entrance fee.

Great walk beside the river Wye, not over long., National Trust property, open most days. Convenient parking near the walk entrance.

Wonderful woodland garden bordering the river Wye. We enjoyed the circular walk with fantastic views. There were toilet facilities but no coffee/snack kiosk

Beautiful garden next to a river. Felt very natural and very peaceful too. Although mostly flat with some steeper parts, tree roots will prove tricky of less mobile. Lovely lady at the kiosk, very friendly and helpful. Our dog loved the walk too - keep on leads as requested. The glasshouse was beautiful, and we look forward to going back later in the year to see the walled garden beds. There was gorgeous rhubarb in the greenhouse to help our selves with a donation - well worth it. It was also lovely to sit in the car overlooking the beautiful view. There are a few picnic benches for warmer weather, and there are toilets which were very clean a few minutes into the walk. We also popped into Hereford, which had a lovely feel to it, and the people were friendly. We'd definitely go back.

So we weren’t sure what to expect but we arrived and found it to be absolutely lovely. It’s probably smaller than you think it would be. The walk we were told is about a 1.6km loop. The path is easy to navigate. You’ll find toilets after about three minutes of walking on the top path. A few interesting things to see (marked clearly on the map provided as well). Lots of interesting plants and some really great established trees. When everything blooms in the spring it will be stunning and we’ll be planning a return visit. Great little play area for kids as well. Then walled garden was nice to see and you can walk through the greenhouse as well. We didn’t walk any of the parkland but the views across it were extensive. Overall definitely worth a visit. (There are quite a few steep steps if you want to go up and down the path but you can follow the loop without using them).

The Monday afternoon we visited, could not have been better chosen to visit. Sun was shining, warm with birds singing and Snowdrops in perfusion!
It was such a joy to walk around the Garden and take in the countryside air and follow the meandering paths which ran in parallel to the fast running River Wye. We intend to revisit around 1st March to see the thousands of Daffodils when they are open!!

As we were visiting Hereford for the weekend we decided to pay this riverside garden a visit.Decent footage is required and certain parts of the garden paths are not suitable for those less able.
The NT staff at the entrance cabin are most helpful and pleasant with it.To get the best results from your visit use the garden map provided and walk the full route clearly marked taking care to avoid the tree roots which are present in locations along the path. Currently the snowdrop display are magnificent 3/2/24. But there are literally thousands of daffodils currently about to burst into bloom and light up the ground areas with their golden yellow 💛 flowers.
The river Wye weaves it's way through the woodland walk and presents opportunities for peaceful moments watching nature do what it does best just amaze you. The children's adventure park at the far end was being enjoyed to its full by kids climbing rope ladders and swinging on hanging ropes etc. The bird life is also a treasure to observe and at the final point a bird hide is provided so that visitors can see various species come and go on the hanging seed & nut feeders. We observed great tits and blue tits plus chaffinches along with a young pheasant enjoying what was on offer and the numbers visiting exceeded 20 at one time. Finally we visited the walled garden and greenhouse but at this time of the year there is not much to see. A nice leisurely stroll around the woodland gives a great deal of pleasure. We'll worth a visit.

The walk along the River Wye Is lovely but need time as the path is strewn with roots and stones making it unsuitable for wheelchairs .The "end" of the walk is rewarded with some deck chairs providing time for contemplation as you admire the views over the River Wye. A walk not to be rushed but time for thought.

The house is owned by the National Trust, I believe, but is not open to the public. It is run as a Nursing Home and has been for many years. The garden is well worth a visit especially in the spring. Not so easy for the less mobile due to the slopes.

How far is the walk along the river? How long does the river circular walk take?
Skrevet 3. september 2017
30 mins if you wish to speed round, a couple of hours if the sun is out and you decide to sit on a deckchair and watch the Wye eddy past you. Its easy going but would say not ideal for wheelchair or someone who struggles with uneven ground. Absolutely brilliant if you are a child and love to clamber and climb.

Dogs are only allowed in the car park/picnic area, not in the gardens itself.

It is £6.95 if you use gift aid or £6.25 if you don't use gift aid. It is well worth paying the money. I am a National Trust member, so get in free.
