It was a super sunny October day, so I made the most of my visit to see Roman Verulamium.
Neat little privately owned site - easy to half close your eyes and be whisked back in time .......
It's a fair walk from the Town Centre but, for lovers of Roman history, well worth the stroll

What a fab, iconic venue to see an open air play. We have just seen a production of 'Sense and Sensibility' here by the OVO company, whose hallmark is great acting. This was so true of this wonderful production. It was surprisingly funny with seeing 'Murder on the Dance Floor' reworked as a stately court dance (Pavane/Gavotte?) and a very interesting interpretation of 'Good Vibrations.' Genius. There were many clever throwaway touches of humour which we loved but counterbalanced with moments of poignancy. Minimalistic costume changes worked brilliantly as did the musical content. What a talented ensemble in all departments. I was glad I had a sunhat to stop sun glare behind the actors late in the matinee performance. Highly recommended venue as it is also open for visitors outside of production times.

Took the opportunity to visit in the amazing weather here in the UK & I can honestly say seeing something this old and complex just easy to visit is something else. Not much like it back home

The site is exceptionally well-preserved and presented. It is definitely worth a visit. While there is room for improvement in providing more information, the overall experience is very good.

A true historical landmark. It is a very different and overwhelming feeling to stand at this site and imagine and visualise history!
Romans were ahead of their time and it shows in these excavations. Kudos to everyone working hard to maintain this site.
There is an entry fee but totally justified I would say!

Though this ancient monument is on private property their interpretation was poor and faded. The entrance price of £3 per head is modest but don't expect much more than a view of the excavations!

We came when the theatre was being set up for a festival, so it wasn’t possible to go down amidst the ruins, so you walk around the perimeter which has three or four information boards and that’s your lot. I questioned the staff about this and they explained that no one can explore the ruins at any time. Therefore this is the only Roman ruin I have visited in this country where it’s not possible to walk among the ruins. They are scant ruins and there are no health and safety concerns so I think this is poor and said so. If you want to visit this, make sure you get a discount from the main museum, be prepared to view from afar and for the whole thing to take ten minutes. The other ruins have virtually no features and are in the middle of excavation so provide scant additional interest.

On the first night of our trip to St. Albans, we went to see Oscar Wilde's play "The Importance of Being Ernest." Loved it! Great acting, great music, and--most importantly--great historical setting.

£3 per person entry fee, no discount for English Heritage, who would have explained things a bit better than the owners here.
Small area to walk round and view, including the actual remains of a Roman theatre.

A well-maintained and interesting site to visit. Good display boards, and it's quiet - only a few minutes' walk from the Verulamium Musuem (you can buy a combi-ticket) but really, oddly, quiet. When we arrived, there were only four other people on the entire site.
The Theatre is well preserved, and rather fantastic as it's a Theatre, not Amphitheatre. Rather a novelty for the UK and interesting to have a look and a wander. It's a lovely, open site with benches so you can sit and look down into the Theatre. Worth picking up a guide book at the entrance.
It's nice to see that excavations are continuing each season, and that more is being uncovered (shops and a house have been found and are visible - and they are currently doing a geophys survey of the surrounding area).
