A unique gem and definitely recommend. I visited with my two sml children just before lockdown and thoroughly enjoyed this kitsch and interesting museum/concert hall. Knowledgeable volunteers who were really enthusiastic made it fun as did the dancing pensioners reliving their youth!! I never knew organs could be so interesting! It did feel a bit like a set from the League of Gentlemen especially with the glittering curtains and variety of patterned knitwear, but this only added to my enjoyment (as did the free biscuits!)

This is a hidden gem, the volunteers do a great job of maintaining the organs and other Artifacts. The regular concerts are good. We have used venue for events several times, AGM of local disabled swimming club (Salmon), their team Of volunteers have made all our disabled members welcome and felt special. It is so nice to see such passion to preserve the organs and keeping them doing what they were made for entertaining people of all ages, from our young kids to those in their nineties all enjoy it. Thank you on behalf of all Salmon Club members.

I visited the Museum as a stall-holder at the Christmas Craft Fair and had a great time.
The space has a friendly and unique vintage charm with lots to capture the imagination. Each of the mechanical organs (some of them are massive) were demonstrated along with a Wurlitzer organ being played by a talented musician. The instruments (some of which are massive) are wonderfully designed with bright colours and moving parts which fill the room with music, creating a great atmosphere.
I only wish this place was more well-known around St Albans as it has a wide appeal to anyone who likes music or vintage and mechanical (or even steampunk) design.

Went with my husband and mother and we had an amazing time. Very educational and extremely entertaining. We went on the Remembrance Day themed Sunday with WW1 & WW2 tunes. Lots of recognisable tunes being played on the amazing organs. Included and cup of tea/coffee and a biscuit in the interval. Ended with lots flag waving to Land of Hope and Glory. The volunteers were brilliant and certainly knew their stuff. Amazing value for money and highly recommended.

A temple of organ music and machinery going back to the oldest mechanical instruments, through fair organs and dance hall organs to modern varieties. Frequent demonstrations.

I've been several times over the last few years, and I always find new things. Watching the various mechanical movements that make the music happen is always fascinating. A real treat for well-behaved children with enquiring minds (these instruments are NOT toys) and adults alike. The volunteer staff are always very friendly, and ready to explain everything.

A really enjoyable couple of hours on a Sunday afternoon. A whole variety of mechanical self playing musical instruments and organs presented by an enthusiastic and dedicated group of individuals explaining the history and musical background. David was a particularly good presenter.

This museum & theatre is only open a few Sundays each year other than for concerts, and it is a shame it does not have more support.

I was born and grew up within a stone's throw of the theatre and am now in my sixth decade making my first visit. Why have I waited so long?

There is a wide range of mechanical instruments from small music boxes to theatre organ consoles. Many of the instruments are demonstrated throughout the afternoon, complemented by a knowledgeable and enthusiastic commentary. Musical offerings range from Andrew Lloyd-Webber through the Lambada and G&S to Saint-Saens.

Fascinating and highly enjoyable. This was £7.00 very well spent.

I recommend.

We went to watch silent black and white films with Keith Nichols on piano. I knew that Keith is a very talented musician and thought it would be interesting to experience the sort of cinema that my parents would have had in their early years. I was in NO way prepared for the experience. Keith was unreal and I forgot for most of the time that it was a live performance. That is how great it was. I laughed and laughed as if I was there with Laurel and Hardy. It was the best experience of film I have had for years - and that is from someone who goes to top end cinema locations in London.
The venue was also unreal. You just HAVE to go to experience the sound of full organs and the beauty of them. We signed up for annual membership straight away- £15 a year for two and they are open once a month on a Sunday where you can hear these amazing organs play. I am more of a tin-whistle person myself, but the majesty and sounds that I heard last night makes me want to go back and to let more people know about this HIDDEN TREASURE! Even if you are only in London for a couple of weeks - check out if you can get to St Albans when the Organ Museum is open. I guarantee you will love it.
