This church is advertised as being open on a Friday but when I came today it was locked up. I had a walk around the outside and read the information board but it was a shame I couldn't see the interior.

You can tell that this church is ridiculously ancient. I just wish it was open when I visited but due to the pandemic....

Fascinating little church with history dating back to Roman times. Interesting to see the different stone that has been exposed which marks the different periods of the church’s development. It predates both St Augustine’s Abbey and the Cathedral and is the oldest English speaking church in the world.

Located a short walk outside of the City Walls, St Martins is well worth a visit. Opening hours are very limited. Once inside you can obtain a free guide that points out the various features of the church including the Roman brickwork. This is the oldest church in England and is still in use.

A very pretty ancient church, so peaceful & atmospheric. Manned by friendly volunteers. Well worth a visit. I was able to light a candle for a sick friend which was comforting.

Sadly the church was closed when I visited, but it was still worth the short walk out of town to admire and enjoy this tranquil spot. There are great views back to Canterbury and the exterior of the church is still interesting!

So disappointing to have walked all the way there and it’s closed. So many people had recommended to us as it was so meaningful to us. What else is there to say

One of the 3 World Heritage sites in Canterbury with the Cathedral and St Augustine's Abbey. Unfortunately the interior is currently closed due to coronavirus. The exterior is still visible of course and there is an explanatory panel setting out the historical dating of the various parts of the church. The cemetery is of interest and there is a good view of the cathedral # no doubt would score higher once open

The oldest church in continuous use since the 5th centrury in england. A site of UNESCO recognition, small, check opening times, and make time to sit and ponder all that these sacred walls have seen over the last fifteen hundred years of its existence.
