We went on the Fish & Chips Supper last Saturday ( a present from our son ).
It was, as Lord Sugar would say, a complete shambles.
No-one around to point us an the direction of platform or train.
Train departed to Eridge half-an-hour late without delivery of fish & chips.
Bar service painfully slow but all staff were volunteers and did their best.
Returned to TW West after 9 , fish & chips finally turned up around 930.
We declined the secomd round-trip to Eridge as seemed rather pointless.
Having said all that, it was an amusing, enjoyable and very British evening out.
Will certainly travel again during the day to enjoy the scenery and hop off at High Rocks, Groombridge & Eridge !

The thing I love about the Spa Valley Railway is the quirky and outside of the box thinking which make their events different. They may not be the longest line or have the biggest budget, but they always find ways of making their events interesting.
Most recently at their mixed traction gala they were running brake van rides behind a tamper - something I’d not seen before. They also seek to maximise variety on these special events which I feel really helps.
I would hazard a guess the manager is an enthusiast himself - it shows in the way events are organised, and I love that because he clearly understands what enthusiasts want from a day out and this takes me back to variety - there was two steam and three diesels - all very different locos. The thumper also came out in the evening which I loved!
The volunteers there are great too - you can tell they love what they do and their passion is infectious - you are guaranteed to leave smiling. They are brilliant.
This is a wonderful line - I love going there. I’d encourage others to do so also - there’s mainline connections at Eridge or you can connect with a bus or short walk from Tunbridge Wells.
There are many heritage lines to chose from and it’s easy to pick the big names because you’ve heard of them, but I’d encourage anyone reading this to consider the Spa Valley - especially on an event day because I know you won’t be disappointed!

I recently enjoyed a day firing and driving a Bulleid Pacific locomotive at the Spa Valley Railway. A big thank you to the driver and fireman and all the others I met for their instruction and friendliness. It was a wonderful day out, and a lifetimes ambition fulfilled. I do hope the railway goes from strength to strength.

My son took my husband and I for Mother’s Day Lunch on the Spa Valley Railway and it was really lovely.
The service was attentive and the food was hot and plentiful. I would definitely recommend for a lovely afternoon out.

We had a marvellous day out with our 5 year old at Spa Valley this half term. We departed from Tunbridge Wells West Station, and we're pulled through the valley by a diesel train, withshort stops at a coupe of stations along the way. We returned from Eridge pulled by the steam train, and the experience was lovely. We had hot drinks and snacks on the train, all the volunteer staff were friendly and approachable, and we were able with our tickets to ride up and down the valley twice, with a space in between to go and find lunch and stretch our legs.
The valley was beautiful even in the brown murk of winter, and I'd love to see it again later in Spring.
In hindsight I think I would probably only have done the first ride up and down, as the 5 year old had had enough before the second ride in the afternoon was over, but I thoroughly recommend this day out to anyone.
It was easy to find parking nearby as directed by the online information, and a question I'd had before the trip, was answered quickly and helpfully. We'll come again with more family when the country greens up!

Very disappointing experience this year compared with the previous year.
Its sadly very clear some financial cuts have been made.
There was no car park with busses to transport you in. Instead we had to fund and organise parking ourselves and hope our timings were accurate.
Disappointed that the train was already waiting on the platform for boarding . Last year The Polar Express arrived in all its magical glory while we were waiting and added hugely to the excitement. Very exciting for small children, having the opportunity to see and hear the train enter the platform. This year It made for a very bland start .
The actors did not really engage or look like they were enjoying their work . Unlike the previous year where everyone was encouraged to participate, which made it an enjoyable experience for everyone on board.
The cookies were much nicer this year and the train was lovely and warm . Also all the staff we encountered were happy and helpful. The Christmas atmosphere in the holding area was full of Christmas Cheer.
Sadly we won't be returning but glad to have had the first experience.

We did The Polar Express experience for the first time 23rd Dec and could not have asked for more. Really engaging and interactive staff, on and off the train. Such a fun experience, haven't stopped smiling since. Really well done, will definitely be looking at returning again. Thank you Spa Valley team. Great start to Christmas 🎄

We bought tickets for the Polar Express trip.
The crew were very engaging and nothing was too much trouble. They made the whole experience a magical time from start to finish.
Catering outside was excellent. Friendly and happy. Everyone had a smile on their face and were so helpful. Can’t thank them enough for such a great evening.

We did the Polar Express ride with 13 of us with ages ranging from 2 - 76.
There was plenty of food and drink outlets which we didn't try having eaten earlier.
The gift shop didn't have much more than the usual overpriced stuffed toys and we didn't buy anything.
The actual ride was excellent and the staff / crew were brilliant.
The hot chocolate and cookie were good I'm told but being diabetic, I didn't try them.
The only criticism I had was that there wasn't enough seats in the waiting area. However, I asked a member of staff if there was anywhere for me to sit and they provided me with a chair.
The snow machine on the platform was a great touch.
Excellent trip with staff who couldn't do enough for you.

The journey was only 3 stations so maybe 30mins. We just stayed in the train and went up and down for 4 hours lol the staff on the train was so lovely and you have toilets and refreshments on the train. Next time we will get off and explore the stations and places it stops.
Hi, I am looking at the £12 adult tickets to the Tumbridge Wells January rides, and I wanted to ask if they were return tickets, or do I have to buy a second ticket for the return?

I believe they would be return as festival tickets are £20 ride all day. But Camra members get a £5.00 discount. Hooe this helps.

How can you guarantee a steam.train over a diesel? If we get a diesel we may as well get a return journey from lewes to brighton - it'd be cheaper too!!!

Unfortunately you can’t as it does depend on the day you go which train is running. Also the drivers are volunteers so depends on whose driving. If in doubt contact Spa Valley directly & see if they can advise what is running. I didn’t mind myself as it’s about supporting the railway & the volunteers who are running it. I had a great time.

Where do you park with a high top campervan? The Tourist Info lady gave me a number for Ringo but the number was not valid. She gave me the car park number for Ringo Go but when I registered and then tried to use that code it said it was not valid for my vehicle. It never asked if it was a high top only make which is Citroen chassis. Is there any other surface car park beside the very small Linden Close one which is likely to be full? Our tickets are for tomorrow.I hope someone can help. Thanks.

Hello, I'm trying to purchase two tickets from Eridge to Tunbridge Wells and back for tomorrow (19th July 2018) but as far as I can see you have to book on line and print the e-ticket, the only problem being is my printer is broken! Does anyone know if I can buy tickets on the day at the station? Thank you for your help - Jan

Hi Jan, did you end up going from Eridge? We have booked a Virgin day on this railway and noticed only street parking at the Tunbridge Wells West station, so we’re wondering if there is much parking on a Saturday, particularly disabled bays at Eridge?

From what i remember there are no steps into the ticket office to buy tickets, but a flight of 3/4 very wide steps up to platform level..the volunteers are very helpful at all times..a guard will see you both on im sure..see the new film show in the worlds smallest cinema..its great, !!! with toilets nearby..
