Unfortunately this museum of now closed for a couple of years for a complete refurbishment, when reopens in 2023 I am certain it will be great to visit.

I work in the shipping business and happened to stumble on this while visiting Hull. It's a wonderful museum explaining the rich fisheries and mercantile past of Hull. There are so many buildings around the city showing what a wonderfully rich place it was once - I hope it will be again. Excellent and best of all FREE!

Even though we live in Hull you forget the superb attractions that are right under your nose. My husband and I decided to visit this lovely museum and we were surprised how informative it was. We will be visiting again.

This is an amazing inside look into Hulls shipping history. Take a look when you are in the city centre and learn something for free in this great old building.

We finally got to visit this museum when we had some time to spare on a damp day in Hull and were both very impressed with what we found. Lots of very interesting exhibits about the history of Hull’s links to the sea.
Well worth a visit for all ages, especially as there’s no entry fee (you can donate as did we to contribute to the upkeep) of this important museum.

We decided to give our London land lubber friends a different sort of day on their recent visit and something so out of their comfort zone.
It was poring with rain and the nearest parking machine was the "other side " of the large car park. I drove them to the entrance then crossed to park at the other side of the large car park to pay, and got very wet after running to join them. Who ever planned their location should be made to try it themselves.
Enough of the moaning the museum itself is very good and we spent well over 2 hours there with a splendid break to go on a guided tour to view one of, if not the last, fishing boat of its kind. Our splendid guide had sailed and worked for years on it and came with splendid true stories of what life was like.
All in all a splendid day but take heed of my weather warning!

Another free museum in this once famous maritime city, housed in the former dock offices over looking Queens gardens once known as Queems dock before been filled in and landscaped. inside the museum there are displays covering all aspects of the history of hulls maritme history including the fishing and whaling industry, most haunting is the whale song as you enter the whaling exhibition. a great museum for all the family to visit, and soon there will be a further fishing exhibition when the trawler Arctic cavalier is housed in a dry dock along side the river Hull opposite the Street life museum over the new bridge, when finished it will be another great place to visit.

Thank you for visiting the museum. We're pleased your enjoyed your time as we try our best to make it a really fun and interesting visit.
We're currently developing exciting plans for Hull, Yorkshire’s Maritime City, a multi-million pound regeneration project to transform the Hull Maritime Museum, the Arctic Corsair and the Spurn Lightship with new exhibitions and interactive learning, placing maritime at the very heart of our story. The museum will have 50% more objects on display covering numerous maritime related topics.
The museum will close on 19 January 2020 for an extensive refurbishment.

Are dogs allowed?

Hi Peter... I've never seen pets in the museum. There are priceless artefacts that could suffer irreparable damage especially if a large very unruly dog misbehaved and therefore i would imagine the policy will be to admit working guide dogs only. For a definitive answer call Hull City Council on Hull 300300.

The stunning ceramic poppies are part of an iconic sculpture named Poppies: Weeping Window, which will be on show on the outside of the Maritime Museum in Hull city centre, from 25 March to 14 May 2017 according to the Hull Daily Mail.
