A gardeners dream! Beautiful gardens to walk around even in late September. The rockery was my favourite, beautifully planted and stunning views.

What a lovely relaxing way to spend a couple of hours strolling round such beautifully kept grounds with so many common and unusual plants. Got lots of tips of what plants go together and places to plant them. Although we went when some of the plants were cut back I can imagine how it looks in the height of summer. All run by volunteers who must work extremely hard. Well worth a visit if you’ve got green fingers or just enjoy admiring lovely plants.

Totally amazed at the beautiful gardens, purely run by volunteers.
Such a peaceful and tranquil place to visit. Highly recommend that you visit.

Would totally agree with the resent reviews of the gardens. A big thank you to all the volunteers for their hard work and time, in keeping everything beautiful - especially the walled garden.
We only found out about the gardens, from a previous guest, who had left a leaflet in the cottage that we were staying in.
The gardens are situated on the kirkstone pass road, just a short distance outside windermere. There is easy access, with well maintained paths, to most parts and with plenty of seating,it's a joy to spend some time there - because the gardens are elevated, the views across towards windermere are superb. Thank you again.

It has been quite a while since I last visited Holehird Gardens and it was so lovely to see it again. The volunteers are AMAZING and the day I went must have been a volunteers work day as there were soooo many of them and all working extremely hard.
The gardens themselves are lovely and even though many things have now gone over there are still things to see. It is so peaceful too despite there being quite a lot of people around.
I was a little disappointed to see that the fountain no longer works and probably hasn't done so for some time. However it certainly doesn't detract from the visit.
I, with my husband, actually made it down to Holehird Tarn for the first time ever and there two swans happily swimming on it. Care is needed when visiting here because it can be very slippery and is quite rocky in places. You only catch glimpses of the tarn due to the vegetation but it is so beautiful.
I would like to see a small café here so you can get some simple things like coffee/tea and cake, however there are many places not too far away to go.
I would recommend a visit, especially I think during the Spring and Summer months when all the flowers are in full bloom - but there is always something to see. I would say about 2 hours would be enough for the visit but there are benches if you want to just sit and enjoy the peace and stay longer.

This was our second visit to Holehird and we picked the perfect day for it. The traffic and amount of people around Ambleside & Windermere was manic so we sought shelter here..and how tranquil and peaceful it was. The views across Windermere to the mountains beyond is breathtaking! These RHS gardens are run purely by dedicated volunteers and they produce the most stunning displays of colour, they have to be seen to be believed. Magical, pure and simple. We’ll definitely be back again next year.

An absolutely mesmerising garden that all would appreciate. Beautiful and fulfilling sensory thrill, good for the soul.
Although neither of us are into gardening, we both felt transported by Holehird Gardens. The collection of flowers in the different areas / arrangements were exquisitely done. The hillside backdrop only added to the magic.
Love that it is a charity and volunteer ran, especially after seeing the amount of work that must go into maintaining it!
Also really appreciated the specific arrangements designed to support bees / other insects - both socially conscious and interesting to watch.
The rose garden smelt fabulous.
A really lovely experience, we spent three hours here :)

Have been encouraged to visit here by several friends and at last we have! The gardens are a credit to all the volunteers who keep these gardens immaculate. There are several national collections here, one of which is the stunning Astilbe collection. The paths lead you into differing seasons and collections, the vistas are stunning taking in lake land fells, mountains and the mighty Windermere!
The walled garden is an explosion of colours and variety of plants and flowers. It really must be seen to appreciate this delightful garden. It is free to enter but donations are very much appreciated and needed for the upkeep of the grounds.
I applaud the hard work and dedication of the team of volunteers. This place would not exist without their hard work. Thank you all.

A delightful first time visit. It is all volunteer based I believe and the staff are super friendly. There is lots to see, especially when initially thinking it was just a walled garden.
There is so much variation and lovely blooms. ..only shame is that they don't sell anything they show case but there is a lot of lovely flowers here.
They only have one disabled bay in the main carpark but there are a couple more ticked around near the toilets...which which benefit if it was signposted in the main parking area? unless, we missed it.

Hope this helps.

Is it suitable for children? Also is they any parking?

Plenty of parking so no problem there. I’m sure children are allowed as long as they are well behaved and don’t run into the beds! I hope you get a good day weather wise. It’s absolutely my top garden to visit,

Hi. Are well behaved dogs allowed into the gardens.

I don't know, sorry . The gardens have luscious gentle gradual lawns, and some of the most spectacular views and seats are in elevated areas, which involve single file walks as the paths are narrow in some parts. So, on balance, I`d suggest leave the dog at home, one would not want to get tangled in a lead, or scare the dog with r.estricted space. Gorgeous at this time of year

Hi,
i am planning to visit this weekend. Could you please help me with these details?
1. Is the weather in Windermere good to travel?
2. How to reach this place from Windermere Railway Station?
3. Is there an entrance fee? it Yes, then can I buy tickets Online?
HolehirdGardens
Windermere, UK12 bidrag
1) Weather fine
2) Taxi is best bet unless you are a keen walker - see the web site for visiting details and directions.
3) Entrance is free - a donations box is available on site.
Most of the garden is dormant at the moment but the views are still spectacular.

Are the gardens visitable by someone in a wheelchair and a caregiver?
What is the price of admission in April?
Thanks,

There is limited wheelchair access. If you provide an email address I will let you have a map showing various access areas. Entry is free but a donation of £4 per person is welcomed to help with costs of running the garden which is maintained entirely by volunteers. Hope to see you next April.
