A suitable resting place for a King
okt. 2021
We travelled to Leicester to see the Richard 3rd museum and a visit to the Cathedral to visit his tomb. The Cathedral is smaller than expected so the tomb takes pride of place and there are many displays referring to Richard 3rd which makes it an interesting tour. The attendants are very knowledgeable and we particularly enjoyed our discussion with a lady about the Windows by Thomas Denny, dedicated to the life of the King.

Mesmerizing experience inside
sep. 2021
Enormous and imposing, the Cathedral is a must-see when you visit Leicester.
The people inside are extremely polite, a map is offered for all the things that you ought to see, entrance is free *and* you get to see King Richard's III final resting place.
Absolutely recommended.

Shame about the 3.00pm closing time
sep. 2021
We tried a few times to get in, and it was closed, and the time we did, was a couple of minutes before the 3.00pm closing time. Which was a shame, as I would have like to spend a bit more time in there. Never got to see the tomb. Quite nice inside, but have been in so many better cathedrals

The site of a Roman temple, a 12C church, rebuilt and enlarged between the 13th and 15th centuries and substantially altered by the Victorians, it became a cathedral in the 1920s and is now the resting place of the reinterred King Richard III. Evensong provides an opportunity to partake in a service and experience some of the daily life of the Cathedral

More than just the King
sep. 2021
It seemed a natural progression when seeing the Richard III museum to cross the road to see his actual burial place. His tomb of course is in pride of place and was completed as recently as 2015. Architectural highlights include the Vaughan Porch which is situated at the south side of the church and the splendid East Window was installed as a monument to those who died in World War I. The cathedral contains four separate chapels, three of which are dedicated to a different saint and all are worth a look in their own right. It is of course free to enter and you will be greeted and provided with a floor plan if you wish.

Welcoming

The cathedral staff are very welcoming. Volunteers are very informed and willing to share their expertise. The is no charge but you are encouraged to pay a small amount and it is worth it. The tomb of Richard III is beautifully simple.

Richard the Third and some interesting history.
aug. 2021
This is a modest little cathedral and it has a lot of history, however it's greatest attraction by far is the burial place of the mortal remains of King Richard the Third. Such an amazing thing to have the history of medieval times touch us today and to be able to see this tomb. They have done a former king proud.
We also attended a harp concert for families and really enjoyed something a bit different with our historical treat. Well worth a visit.

Fit final resting place for a king

Richard's tomb is modern, understated but beautiful; the staff are knowledgeable, helpful and friendly; the cathedral has a sense of caring for the local community and the world as well as being a tourist target.
