We have done most of the National Trust attractions in the North West this year and enjoyed them all but Speke Hall was the best… The volunteer guides were all very good but I want to give out special mentions to Fiona and Cath who were both so engaging and informative… We spent about 90 minutes doing the house tour and then another hour walking around the beautiful gardens and doing the Bund trail. We can highly recommend this venue to anyone looking for a new place to visit…

Exploring the grounds of Speke Hall is a great day out in itself. The wildlife in the forests to the worderl plants and trees are a great escape not to far away from the city centre.
The history inside the house is excellent with a guide able to talk to you through each room and a snip of history lessons.
I particularly like the grounds such as the kitchen garden and the secret garden. The orchid is a nice place to sit and soak up the environment.

Very friendly volunteers keen to talk and point out things like the amazing plaster ceiling. The Tudor building was built by the Norris family, lots of nooks and crannies including a priest's hole. It was raining heavily so we didn't get to see the garden at it's best. Would definitely visit again.

We were blessed with beautiful sunny day to visit Speake Hall. A bit of a mixed bag today. We had a warm welcome from the young guy in the ticket office and from the cafe staff too. We then sat with the children and had our picnic and coffees before making our way to the house. Spoke with some wonderful staff inside who clearly love to share their knowledge. Unfortunately the same can't be said about the costumed snooty lady in The Great Hall who gave us one word answers. She clearly didn't want to speak to us. The Lute player however was fantastic and very much enjoyed. The children enjoyed the walks and the play areas, especially the zip line. The loud rumbling of jet engines and plane spotting was another highlight. At the end of the day we were puzzled to find the toilets locked. I asked a member of staff in the office if she could direct us to the nearest loo open as all of us needed to go before our hour drive home. She told us they were now locked and we should go to Dobbies garden centre. No apology to us, no attempt to help my family and I, nothing! We are unfamiliar with the area so we wasted the next half hour druving round looking for somewhere to stop. By the time we found somewhere we were all fit to burst. I'll add that I have a chronic condition which requires me to need toilet access quickly. I was made to feel extremely uncomfortable due to one woman's inability to use a key to help out customers. Extremely poor behaviour indeed and a spoiled ending to an otherwise pleasant day. This is certainly not how to advertise The National Trust to prospective members thinking about joining!

Splendid Tudor house with a fascinating history and with lovely grounds so there is a lot to keep you interested for a few hours. Bonus for plane spotters is that it's near Liverpool John Lennon airport. You can walk out to the coastal path which runs by the perimeter fence and watch the planes landing and taking off!

Absolutely amazing place- Lots to do for the children (Maze, Park and the Giant's trail though the woods which was amazing) When we arrived and presented our free pass the man on the till told us the house suitable for young children so asked "would you just be visiting the gardens and play area today?" I was surpised as we had previously visited no problem. I said no we wanted to view the house (We had a 9 year old and 5 year old with us aswell as two toddlers) When we got to the house it was FULL of families with young children. The children had a children's trail to do with clipboards and loved it. I just think it's unfair to try and put families off visiting the house by saying it isn't suitable for young children when that isnt the case or true. Perhaps change your wording and say "You're more than welcome to visit the house but young children will need to be monitored closely or carried due to fragile items" rather than just dismissing it- May have been his tone but he looked agitated when I said we would like to visit . We overall had a lovely day 😊

We were on our way to Southport, this proved to be a great stop off along the way.
We arrived at opening time and we were offered a guided house tour before the house opened for free flow later on. This proved to be very good. The guide was excellent and although we didn't visit every room we learnt a lot. You could always wander around later if you wished.
There's the usual NT cafe but we were too early for the freshly baked scones.
The walk around The Bund is good, a bit uneven but worth the effort. You see the Mersey and Liverpool airport as you wsndrr along.
Lots of paths through the woods and gardens too.

Well kept grounds, a rich history and attentive staff all made for an idyllic day out. Guides were informative and personable, easy time parking and a glimpse into the past! Highly recommended for locals and tourists alike.

Our first visit to Speke Hall, But our Daughters 4th visit, We recently joined the National Trust and have been to a couple of other places and enjoyed each day.
The staff were lovely at reception when we arrived and throughout the day within all the grounds.
The children enjoyed the play area and the maze and spent time running around playing football, Was just a really lovely day. We took our own packed lunch and there were plenty of seating areas. The food food the cafes looked lovely as we stopped for a ice-cream and coffee and saw other peoples dishes coming out.
We will be back if not many times over this summer holidays. Thanks National Trust.

Has anyone visited recently and is able to tell me if the zip wire has been repaired and also the condition of the play area. I wish to bring an 11 and a 9 year old boy and don't want them to be disappointed with the play activities,
Skrevet 22. mai 2022
Sorry I didnt notice but suggest you phone them.
Skrevet 24. mai 2022
hi is the hall and gardens free with being a national trust member thanks
Skrevet 11. januar 2020
No. Members get entry but others have to pay.
Skrevet 8. februar 2020
I would not advise this. The estate gates are locked overnight.
The car park is exposed.
There is a good caravan site on Wirral, Thurstaston.

Hi we are thinking of visiting next friday to do the Easter egg hunt. Do we pay the entrance fee for the grounds only or do we have to pay for the house also (we are not planning to go around the house).
Skrevet 13. april 2019
Hi, you can just pay for the grounds only. It’s £8.70 (standard admission, not gift aid per adult, £4.35 for a child or £21.75 for a family ticket for grounds only.
I believe the Easter Egg hunt is an additional £2.50.
The grounds open at 10:30 am though I would double check before you go.
Hope this helps.
Skrevet 13. april 2019
Do you pay an entry fee just to go in the grounds as the house is closed for now?
Skrevet 9. januar 2019
Yes you do to enjoy the extensive gardens, woodland, coastal trail plus all the family activities- the admission fees help toward the care and maintenance of this special place.
Join the National Trust and admission is included here and all properties. 3 visits a year and it pays for itself.
Skrevet 9. januar 2019
Can anyone tell me what sort of time frame it takes to view the house and grounds?
Skrevet 23. februar 2018
I would say about 3-4 hours the house and grounds, afterwards having lunch or afternoon tea. Its a day out really, weather permitting of course. Even if its cold its still a beautiful place to visit .
Skrevet 20. april 2018
Is it free for children under a certain age?
Skrevet 25. august 2017
No there is a cost for all as the money is put back into the up keep of the place and its a huge place to look after.
Skrevet 20. april 2018
