A warm, homely church
nov. 2021
Apparently, a place of worship since the middle of the thirteenth century, the Church of Our Lady and St Nicholas (fondly known as St Nicks) was nearly completely destroyed by fire following a German aid raid on 2 December 1940. Rebuilding commenced in 1949 and the rebuilt church was consecrated in October 1952. Inside it is a warm, homely church which seems to glow. Inside the Chapel of St Peter there is a cross made from charred timbers salvaged following the fire in December 1940. Hanging between the nave and the sanctuary is a carving of Christ with figures of Mary and St John. These figures were carved from an old oak frame which once held the bells in the tower. There is also a carving, The Grail Boat, carved out of veryt old oak featuring Joseph of Arimathea next to Mary Magdalene. In the gardens outside, which are popular for wedding photographs, there are many memorials including the Liverpool Blitz Memorial, the Victoria Cross Walkway, the Atlantic Conveyor Memorial and the MV Derbyshire Memorial.

Англиканская Церковь 1257 года
aug. 2020

One of Liverpool's most historic churches.
mar. 2021 • Venner
Standing in the heart of Liverpool Buisness District and practically adjacent to the River Mersey is Our Lady And St Nicholas Church, one of the city's oldest and most historic churches.
There has been a place of worship on this spot since at least 1257 with St Mary Del Quay mentioned in records from around this time ,a larger chapel was constructed in 1362 and dedicated to St Nicholas patron saint of mariner's ,as Liverpool grew as a city the church grew in size doubling itself by the 15th century .
During the Civil Wars the defeated and captured Parliamentarians were imprisoned in the church .
The continued growth of the city saw a spire added in 1747 and the Churchyard extended two years later ,around 1775 the church underwent extensive rebuilding due to it state of disrepair but by 1810 the church was once again in a state of neglect to such an extent that the spire collapsed with tragic consequences, the tower was rebuilt in 1815 and till 1927 the church changed very little but on the 21st of December 1840 the church suffered wartime bomb damage, the tower and administration section of the church survived but what we see today was rebuilt post war ,I love visiting this church, not only is the church beautiful but the garden area is fabulous and there's so many statue's and memorials here and the views of the three graces stunning from the church grounds, its a fantastic church to visit and when the final lockdown is lifted in April most definitely well worth checking out.

In my opinion Our Lady And St Nicholas Church is one of the most beautiful churches in Liverpool, not only is the church beautiful but the grounds which house the church are fantastic and packed with monuments and statues.
Dedicated to the patron saint of sailors namely St Nicholas, it got a great location being practically on the banks of the River Mersey, there's been a religious site on this spot since 1257.
The church was constructed on the site of a previous church called St Mary On The Quay, Our Lady And St Nicholas Church is a beautiful Grade II listed building and was constructed between 1811 - 1852 from designs by architect's Edward C Butler and Thomas Harrison ,the church looks superb ,beautiful stone work ,an evocative looking spire all housed in well kept gardens, the interior is no less beautiful, mostly wood ,its so tranquil and peaceful, looks amazing ,all in all its such a beautiful church to visit,my twin brother Stephen and I were heading to Ma Boyles Alehouse And Eatery and passed through the church grounds on a wet and windy Saturday night ,took lots of photos of the church and the gardens before moving onto the pub to warm up with a cold beer.
Our Lady And St Nicholas Church is easy to locate Old Churchyard and is most definitely well worth checking out if you're in the area or planning to visit Liverpool.

Our Lady And St Nicholas Church is a beautiful church and garden area that I always look forward to visiting whenever I am in this part of town.
This is the Anglican parish Church of Liverpool, there's actually been a religious site on this spot since 1257.
Dedicated to the patron saint of sailor's ( St Nicholas ) and a superb location practically on the River Mersey and Pier Head complex, the church was constructed on the site of St Mary On The Quay ,a beautiful Grade II listed building, its still an active parish church, very popular indeed, this present incarnation of the church was constructed between 1811 - 1852 by architect's Edward C Butler and Thomas Harrison, its a striking looking church, the tower is so beautiful as is the whole church, the church grounds are also superb ,lots of monuments, memorials and statues to look at ,the grounds are well kept and peaceful, bench seating to relax and chill out in.
My twin brother Stephen and I were heading to Ma Boyles Ale House and passed through the church grounds ,took a time out to just have a few minutes walking around the church and the church grounds.
Easy to locate along Old Churchyard, most definitely well worth a visit if you're in the area or planning to visit Liverpool.

Lovely Church and Gardens with Thoughtful Art
jul. 2020
Check out the almost hidden eco art sculpture of the seagull and the marine waste (real waste) called "Tidal Shame" by Gail Dooley ...... you need to view this thoughtful piece from the roadside (opposite the Mercure / Atlantic Tower Hotel) and look upwards. The gardens are a peaceful haven on opposite the waterfront ...... always enjoyable and a meditative place to be.

Beautiful church and grounds .
apr. 2020 • Venner
My twin brother Stephen and I were heading to The Ma Boyles Pub and walked through the grounds of Our Lady And St Nicholas Church, so we decided to to have a look around the grounds and the church.
Our Lady And St Nicholas Church is the Anglican church of Liverpool, there's been a religious site of one form or another since at least 1257 .
The city of Liverpool received a charter from King John in 1207 to erect a church,by 1257 a small chapel was constructed known as St Mary Del Quay which in all probability stood on the spot occupied by the present church overlooking the River Mersey and stood here till 1361.
A new chapel was constructed dedicated to St Mary and St Nicholas which was expanded over the centuries, the church spire was one of the landmark features of the landscape but members of the parish repeatedly warned that it looked unsafe ,this warning came true on 11th February 1810 when the spire crashed into the nave tragically killing 25 people below ,the spire or tower was rebuilt between 1811 - 1815 and bar for a few alterations the church has remained as we see it today.
I love the look of the church, the interior is just so beautiful, a tranquil area, the all wood interior is amazing, the alter beautiful, the stone work magnificent and let's not forget the beautiful grounds the church stands ,lots of monuments and statues such as The Homeless Jesus,The Blitz Monument, The T.S.S. Sarpedon Bell Monument and many more ,such a beautiful church, such a wonderful location, most definitely well worth checking out if your in the area.

Our Lady And Saint Nicholas Church & Gardens ( Liverpool Parish Church Of Our Lady And St Nicholas ) is a wonderful looking church set in pretty gardens that is an oasis of calm around this part of town
There's been a religious site on this spot since 1257,this present church looks superb and at one time between 1813 - 1868 was the tallest structure in Liverpool, its tower stands at 53 metres high, the interior is awesome, the wooden beamed struts forming the ceiling are amazing, it's just one fantastic looking church and is a well deserved Grade II listed building, the church is in honour of St Nicholas who is the patron saint of sailors which is apt considering it's close proximity to the River Mersey, the grounds in which the church is located are also beautiful, theres a monument in the form of a ships bell to S.S Sarpedon ,a famous ship ,looks superb as do the gardens,a beautiful church most definitely well worth checking out and easy to locate on Old Churchyard.
