Booked a return, cost me £80 for 2 hours of journeys. Had an allocated seat but the train was so oversubscribed I could not even use it and it was terrible service and it was late. genuineley for that price it shoudl be illegal

What is a the point in paying for FIRST CLASS GWR TRAIN TRAVEL, when the Seats are EXTREMELY UNCOMFORTABLE, albeit a little bit wider. The Carpeting is bloody disgustingly dirty. The Refreshments are cheap and nasty. Wow you get “FREE” Seabrook Crisps, COLD Croissants AND CHEAP BISCUITS and Crap Tea/Coffee.
Meanwhile Standard Class are able to buy branded Chocolates /Chocolate biscuits (kitkats etc) and Taylor’s Coffee bags.
I’ve paid DOUBLE the price for a SUB STANDARD SERVICE AND “FREE” Cheap Food.
I suppose not sitting in a cattle truck, which I have heard Standard Class referred too is better.
Where is the HOT FOOD ?? There’s a galley kitchen, used to Boil water!!!! GWR LISTEN TO YOUR PASSENGERS. I’m sick of paying huge amount for my tickets to get crap food.
However, Management WONT LISTEN and give BETTER FOOD AND DRINKS TO THOSE PAYING FOR FIRST CLASS SERVICE.
IN FACT I DONT THINK GWR KNOW WHAT FIRST CLASS MEANS.

A great way to travel through the UK. We took three trips and booked in advance on the website. Our experience was very good. The employees were very friendly and helpful. When arriving at a station we looked for the orange jackets and the train personnel near the help” sign. They were happy to assist us in getting to the correct platform. On every trip we made 2 or 3 changes and other passengers helped us get luggage on board. We managed 3 train trips and each had 2 or 3 changes.
On board the train sandwiched and drinks other snacks were available for purchase.
The office in Penzance. Super nice! They helped me change tickets to one day earlier arriving at Windsor for small 10 pound fee.
Highly recommend traveling by train!

I traveled from Liverpool lime street on Sunday 18 th August 2024 to Windsor , due to all trains cancelled right to London Euston we had to go via Warrington bank quay , my mistake I’d taken the wrong case and only realised when I arrived at my hotel in Windsor ,.
I am Railway staff of 41 years now and must say the customer service I got of MrJohn Creedon in the booking office was THE BEST , he did his best to help me relocate my case , I returned following morning and got the same service from staff a Mr Richard Rogan , we managed to locate my case at Newcastle railway station 249 miles away which I traveled to collect on Tuesday 20 th August 2024 retuning the case that I’d mistakenly taken , I’d like to send a BIG THANK YOU to both members of staff for your help, if there’s a monthly Gem award system with nib GWR these two Gentlemen truly deserve one , if you can pass on to them .

I like to try and give my autistic son different experiences, and having done the hovercraft in Portsmouth, and various modes of transport on our Isle of Man trip I decided that we could have a trip on the sleeper from Paddington to Penzance.
I did struggle to book a cabin for the trip on their website but the person on the on-line help was great and pointed me in the right direction. I booked the tickets to be sent home as I wanted a memento for the journey.
On the day you are able to use the first-class lounge from around 9pm with the potential to use the showers. If you do find the lounge busy there is some more seating hidden away which is actually straight on and around the corner from where you first came in. Tea or coffee, biscuits or fruit were available and there will be a host around and about to help.
Keep an eye on the display for when you can get on to the train.
We had a double cabin and I was suprised how small it was but then again you are just sleeping there for the night. There is a sink in the room and a couple of toilets at the end of the carriage.
One of the members of staff came and showed us the various bits to the room, ladders air-con etc and took our order for the morning breakfast. Cup of coffee or tea and either porridge, a bacon bap or a croissant.
As far as the night's sleep goes it wasn't great for me but that isn't due to the bed which was comfy and warm. It's me being a light sleeper unlike my son who didn't have a problem. As you would expect you can here and feel the train moving (not like the don't do things slow because they are trained to take care of the passengers)

In the morning you receive breakfast at you room and have chance to eat it before you have to depart the train by 8.
We used GWR for part of our trip back home, from Penzance to Plymouth. The train was huge and did get busy it was tidy and ran on-time which was more than what could be said of the Cross country train we used next, that was like stepping back years!

This had been on my bucket list for ages. So, as a traveller, I tried it travelling on a Friday evening from Pewsey to Paddington, then the Night Riviera service to Penzance, and finally back to Pewsey from Penzance. I knew it would be a tiresome and an exhaustive journey because I had not booked a berth. I settled back and expected to stay awake, looking out of the window with no intention of sleeping. I love seeing the countryside, albeit yes, it was dark, and I still expected to see something. How wrong was I... the fully lit carriage deprived me of any view out the window throughout the dark hours with constant glare and reflection. The carriage air conditioning kept everything so cold that fellow passengers huddled up under coats and anything else to keep warm. We never saw an attendant throughout the whole journey otherwise this could have been raised. While some slept many did not due to the cold. Having said that, this is my only gripes. Surely lighting could be turned off and comfort of passengers looked at. Perhaps do away with the seated carriages altogether in favour of berths. Even the buffet car would not let you sit in comfort while you had a drink or eats. Favouring those who paid for a berth, the only ones allowed to use the seating area. I will use this again but with a berth so I can switch out the lights and enjoy the view from the window.
Other than that this citizen journalist enjoyed the Riviera status for one night. Getting home was a different matter... cancellations of alternative trains which may or may not stop at my initial boarding stage hampered the journey somewhat.

Hot weather and no air conditioning on trains. Uncomfortable journey and as busy unpleasant smell on journey to and from southampton central. Changed onto the Southern Railway network and lovely cool air-conditioned trains. Will not be using the train in the summer again.

The service goes from bad to worse.
Trains cancelled or at best late. The good thing is you can pretty much guarantee getting your money back via Delay Repay. Top tip: book your train a few hours before you need to arrive. Chances are it will be cancelled or delayed. So money back and you arrive at the time you wanted in the first place. Winner!
The onboard staff are always delightful and of course none of this is their fault but they must take some flak and I feel for them.
First Class is overpriced for the service provided and often no better than standard.
A sad advert for the UK’s rail network.

How do you know what carriage to board on the GWR when you are assigned a seat?

On the new trains to South Wales from Paddington they have two five car units coupled together and there are times when the seat number on your ticket doesn't exist because the numbers are duplicated or don't go high enough, Check with one of the two conductors on the train or with the booking clerk if you buy a ticket In a booking office. It is not a good system.

What platform do I go to from Reading Station to Bath on Monday, August 26, '19. If unknown at this date is there a link I can access for that information on the day of travel. Are the carriages clearly marked to assure I get on the correct one according to my ticket.

Is there any prospect of the station operators or train staff selling or renting adequate supplemental seat bands or cushions which might make sitting in the Hitachi rolling stock tolerable?

The new trains are not as comfortable as the old HST. First class is quite austere.

When you purchase a standard train ticket in the UK are you assured a seat? How do you know which car to board, or to which platform one goes, to board the correct train. Is this information on your ticket? Is it better to get a first class ticket? I am a student studying abroad for a year and will have a backpack and a large suitcase. I plan to get a RAILAIR bus from Heathrow to Reading and a train then to Bath Spa. Since there is no guarantee that my flight will arrive on time, nor how long it will take to go through passport, luggage, and customs, and the walk to the Central Bus Station, I plan to buy the tickets on the day I arrive which is August 26, which I understand is a holiday. The only way I can catch the direct National Express Bus which is direct to Bath is if I make it by 10:20, I am scheduled to land at 7:45 AM. The next bus will not get me to my meeting place on time, which will create a mega problem for me. Also I know the backpack will go overhead, where do I put my large suitcase on the train, if I miss the 10:20, bus.

There was a space in our section of the train for oversized bags. We had two big ones and it worked just fine.

Hola, estuve tratando de reservar un pasaje Londres-Bath a través de GWR, pero al llegar al momento de la reserva, el sistema se traba. Mandé un mail a la Empresa y me contestaron que no están habilitados vender pasajes fuera del Reino Unido. Alguien sabe a través de cual sitio es posible reservarlos. Hay mucha diferencia de precio si se hace con antelación. Gracias.
