We saw this house on The Mall, located next to the Clarence House. All films and documentaries which show the Buckingham Palace interiors are actually filmed here. It is very opulent with a grand hall, a lavish staircase, a music room and many state rooms. It is a very well preserved building with lovely gardens. It was Commissioned in 1825 by the Duke of York. After the Duke of York died the first Duke of Sutherland bought it. Throughout the 19th it was the centre of the social and political life of London because Sutherland was a liberal politician who mingled with reformists like Lord Shaftesbury and Harriet Beecher Stowe, the anti slavery author. He also influenced the trends of decor and art of that era. For the next century his style influenced the reception rooms of London and beyond. In 1913 this building was purchased by Lord Leverhulme Lancaster. He bought it for the British nation and opened the London Museum here. Currently, it is used for state hospitality. You can see the Lancaster House in many famous films like, Bridgerton, The Crown, Kings Speech, Young Victoria and Downton Abbey.

We went in Sept. 2019 for the Queen's Ball, the reception was held at the Lancaster House. What a beautiful place to have such an event. With the beautiful pieces of art, the tables decorated with flowers such a nice evening. The service was great.

Lancaster house is a stunning stately home situated on the Mall close to Buckingham Palace. The former residence of the Duke of York the second son of King George III. It is a beautiful building and well worth a visit. The entrance leads you into a reception area with magnificent sweeping staircase that leads to the first floor. The decoration is stunning and the artwork amazing. If you like historic buildings you will not be disappointed, and as the house backs onto St. James Park it is wonderfully situated for sight seeing and relaxation.

A stately building located between Buckingham Palace and the official residence of His Royal Highness The Prince Of Wales, Clarence House.
Lancaster House is managed and run by The Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO). This historic building provides a magnificent setting, a prestigious central location, and first-class facilities for all types of events and hospitality.
Used for Prime Minister’s policy addresses, state visits and has been used for receptions and shows during London Fashion Week. The house has also been used for filming including: Disney’s National Treasure - Book of Secrets, BBC/HBO’s production of Churchill at War, Sherlock Holmes - A Game of Shadows, The King’s Speech, and Netflix’s The Crown.

On a recent visit to Lancaster house I found the building totally amazing. The internal ceilings were absolutely magical dressed in gold leaf. The pictures were incredibly large and amazing.

Located close to Buckingham Palace this is a wonderful architectural structure that is set back off the road. Walk around the edges.

A visit to Lancaster House will transport you visually to a time when buildings were groomed to last. I attended a business gathering and was blown away. I’m unsure how or where one goes to visit and take in the splendour of this national treasure, but it’s worthy of the time to find out.

Visited Lancaster House ( It is part of the Palaces complex containing also St James Palace, Clarence House, and very close to Buckingham Palace, ) as part of London open House weekend, this building is not very often open to the public it is administered by the Foreign and Commonwealth office and used primarily for government business, however it is still a Palace and is quite stunning, keep an eye on their Website along with London open house website and visit if you can you will not be dissapointed
