I have been coming to Golders Hill Park for over 50 odd years. Used to visit with my Grandmother who liked to have a drink in The Old Bull & Bush. ( now sadly lacking in character ) & come on the bus on a Sunday to listen to the band.
Kept on visiting over the years with our children even when we moved out of London but have not been for a few years so we were delighted to find the park hardly changed at all. Same smoothly rolling expanses of grass , the Cafe which always did a roaring trade. Also the large paddock with deer & the small , interesting zoo.
The walled garden seems even better than I remember , a blaze of colour.
Add to this a child's playground , a small lake & the bandstand plus Tennis Courts.
Thought the lake area looked a bit tired & the toilets behind the Cafe , although welcome , have not changed much , either! Could do with an upgrade.
Great advantage that the Garden gives access straight onto Hampstead Heath & is only a few minutes walk to the lovely Hill Garden & Pergola. Easy bus ride from Golders Green or Hampstead. Used to be able to park car in nearby roads but I think that might be a problem these days as I saw residents parking signs everywhere.
Great place for a cheap day out.

It’s a lovely park apart from the dog owners who let their dogs run wild when dogs are supposed to be on a lead in the park and the cyclists who are not permitted to cycle in the park and expect people to get out of the way. People need to stop feeding bread to the ducks as it is extremely harmful. There are alternatives including duck food, oats and frozen sweetcorn.

Such a great park. It has everything - tennis courts, croquet lawn, a secret garden (the hill garden), ice cream, and my personal favourite a FREE zoo with lemurs and alpacas! Love this place

We shot through the park on the way to The Old Bull & Bush a couple of years back and vowed to return.
A really lovely facility with a small zoo, walled garden, butterfly garden, deer enclosure, pergola and cafe. Great for everybody. Very picturesque - and not far from Bull & Bush!
I’m just sorry I don’t live closer but will definitely return.

Everything about this park is lovely. My children love the park as they have plenty of things to do such as observing birds and enjoying mini zoo located in the middle of the park, running and playing in the playground which offers lots of fun and challenge, climbing up trees and discovering new places...absolutely brilliant!

This is a large park near Hampstead Heath and has many entrances. With a large play area, sandpit and an aviary and mini zoo, there is lots for children to enjoy.
The emus and deers are in a wide enclosure near the playground. Large green expanse separates these from an area which has a fish pond, a butterfly park and a manicured garden.
On a good day there can be loads of time spent here.

Hampstead covers areas of land but it has been isolated in some place where houses or small roads carved a piece off. The main part, view over London, the ponds, most people know and visit. However if you continue North past Jack Straw's Castle to Golder's Green there are tree behind the houses and you come across what is now called Golder' s Hill Park. Mostly an open area with short grass and people prone when the sun is out, but boasts a bandstand and many events. There is also a café, a butterfly home and an area nearby with brick walls and small plants and a stream running nearby with geese and other wildlife who are little bothered by the visitors. There is a petting zoo and a tennis course. Much is newer and does not have the draw of other traditional parks but go past the designed plants and there are older little plants and fun area to explore that have little cut grass, just one strip to lure you in to the bugs and wild plants. This is the nicest bit. And just as you spread out with you sandwich and get comfortable you suddenly see a large orange plant hiding behind the tarmac walkway and a bird wanders past to remind you it is there home and not ours. So ignore your GSP and look at a paper map instead and see the huge areas in London that still exist. Get on the bus and explore the parks. There is a part accessed via Finchley Road and if you think Hampstead ponds are all that exist - think again - there are hidden glens, fed by the small winding streams that permeate the hills and dales there and amongst them a different home of dark, green and dank places surrounded by large old trees, where you can stop and peep into the wilderness, where time changes little and the hubbub of London seems long away. I have said that it is a 'place of activity and entertainment and culture' however the latter things relate to those who are visiting rather than something that is organised, although there are some. It is the people, the way they deal with the space and what they do they - whether playing tennis, ice-cream at the cafe, looking at the plants in the garden or those climing on the sculture. They do have a full diary of dates you can go specifically to see.

This is an excellent place for a family outing. Children can see animals and birds in safe enclosures and a good play area. Also excellent inexpensive cafe which also has a section serving Italian ice cream.
For adults a visit to the Pergola and Walled Garden is a must.
In summertime there is live free music at the Bandstand

Can you park nearby
Marek T
London, UK43 bidrag
Yes, there are paid parking spaces in the streets near at least one entrance. Some spaces may be for residents only. Others will be either free to residents or a ticket can be bought. Details on signposts. Watch out for the times you can or need to do this, at certain times it may be free. It's not too expensive. Also watch out for other people trying to get into your space at the same time, someone nearly collided with us! A slightly tense conversation later, it was all resolved amicably with a handshake (I got the space!). Hope this helps.

Can I park the car in a road nearby

Unfortunately most of the parking in the nearby roads are reserved for residents. I understand that parking may be available at the Old Bull and Bush pub in North End Road toward Hampstead and that would be about a ten minute walk back to the park.

Where can one park near Golders Hill Park on a Sunday?
Laura v
Bushey, UK34 bidrag
Bit cheeky, but there is a fairly big car park attached to the Bull and Bush pub over the road from the North End Road entrance to the park. The car park is free and is not patrolled. Of course, you may want to pop in to the pub afterwards anyway, as it is also quite lovely, with a nice atmosphere. There will be parking on side streets also- there are many CPZ parking spaces which are available for public use on Sundays.
