This visit was so interesting to me, as I knew absolutely nothing about the house and it's history. The guide was exceptionally good at the getting all the information across in a well paced tour. All was very interesting and enlightening, really enjoyed learning all about 2 Willow Road.

An interesting house to visit. We had only 4 people on our tour. Very interesting guide. Lots of quirky features within the property make it unique. Easy to find as it is clearly signposted. Only a short walk from the underground.

This is a group of three houses built by the famous architect Ernö Goldfinger in Hampstead. The houses were built as three dwellings with some of the financing coming from rental of the outer two homes. Today, these are provaeyly owned and you can visit themiddle house which Ernö Goldfinger lived in for the rest of his life.

I went on a guided tour and it was interesting.

Having made the trip out to Hampstead to visit the National Trust's Fenton House, we moved on to a modernist home, by Ernö Goldfinger. Hard to believe it was designed in 1939 and we were shown through by a National Trust member who fully each room, the materials used within the room and reasons such modern ideas with the property, during our timed visit. We enjoyed a National Trust location, that was so different to others we had visited. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit, though it may not be a home appreciated by all who visit..

Visited in May '17, sorry for late review. Really found this place so interest with the modernism style and the way it was designed. The whole place was using the most of the natural light which made it lovely. Not your usual NT place! Would like to take my dad here one day.

2, Willow Road was designed and built by Hungarian-born Ernö Goldfinger in the 1930s and has been a National Trust property since 1955.

Due to it's small size, only small numbers of visitors are allowed in at a time from 3-5 p.m. Prior to that there are group tours. The visit starts with a 15 minute video of the life and works of Goldfinger, then visitors can explore the house at their leisure. No photography is allowed inside the property.

The property feels like the owners have just popped out as all sorts of items from the children's toys to books and ornaments are left in situ.

Although not a large property, it is worth a visit just to get that 1930s architectural feel. Fenton House, the 17th Century House and Gardens is a short walk away, so I would suggest a combined visit to both properties.

The home of Erno Goldfinger, really showcases his architectural genius with clever use of light, colour and space and personal creative flare. Unexpected was how homely it is. Do not miss the excellent introductory video with contributions from people who knew and worked with him. I recommend the guided 45 minute guided tour to gain the most from your visit. Our guide was engaging and very knowledgeable. He encouraged and answered questions throughout really bringing the house and its occupants to life.

Just imagine someone visiting your house when you are not there - they would not appreciate all there is to see, especially if you have built up a personal art collection.

We were incredibly lucky to get a rare glimpse of the back garden from the rear first floor living room as there was renovation work underway in the balcony otherwise the curtains are drawn to protect the artefacts.

The art work is glorious as Goldfinger and his artist wife had many famous and creative friends in their circle. This is all complemented by the everyday furniture, fixtures and fittings designed by Goldfinger. So old but so contemporary.

I can’t recommend it highly enough.

As you would expect there’s no facilities, cafe or shop but there is a small number of items for sale in the entrance hall and I bought a stylish Trellick Tower tote.

Visited two more properties that offer free admission to holders of the National Art Pass. The first of these was the Erno Goldfinger modernist house just off Hampstead Heath. Much controversy about the building at the time, including (allegedly though probably untrue) from Ian Fleming who chose the Hungarian born architect’s name for his villain in his novel of the same name. The property is fascinating almost as if you might expect the architect himself to loom large over your shoulder as you are guided through rooms that seem untouched since the place passed into the care of the National Trust. Ephemeral items gathered on travels abroad are juxtaposed with works of art from surrealists such as Lee Miller, Max Ernst, Henry Moore and family heirlooms recalling Goldfinger’s Jewish heritage in Hungary. It is possible to visit unguided but the tours are well worth it particularly when the visitors are as well informed as the guides.

We’ve been twice recently and enjoyed both visits - which were very different as we had different guides. Fascinating how he collected rather like Freud and his friend Henry Moore, whom he must have known in Hampstead before the war and whom he visited in Hertfordshire. Definitely worth a visit and then pop down to Freud’s museum down the road which takes collecting to another level.
