très déçue… sur le site internet, il est bien noté que Queens house ferme à 17.00,
pourtant des 16.32, l’entrée nous y a été refusée car le personnel avait fini sa journée
Il faut donc écrire fermeture à 16.30 et non 17.00….

We were in Greenwich for just one day and most of it was spent here. We went to see the Maritime paintings and were lucky to catch a guided tour. The guide was knowledgeable and made his talk so entertaining. By chance, there was a free concert by the students of Trinity Laban that afternoon, so back I went. It was excellent and in a great setting.

Una visita molto veloce per una bella location. Facilmente raggiungibile dall'attracco dei battelli sul Tamigi in pochi minuti.

This house is located just behind the Old Royal Naval College . The Queen's House as it is now known, is a former royal residence built between 1616 and 1635. Seeing is believing, it is beautiful.

Queen's house is similar to a multi-layered gallery. It has a small entrance that builds up expectations, but it is simple in its execution. It is free to enter and can be a maze to navigate. It is a short visit and is essentially for those who enjoy galleries. There is nothing for children to enjoy for a long period, so it is worth visiting if you have a keen interest in the subject.

Hi louiville7 and thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We agree that if you are keen and passionate about art then the Queen's House is for you. But we do also offer things for our younger visitors. Our conservator kits which allow children to investigate the house with all sorts of props prove popular and our character actors grace the house introducing children to mistress Babbington and Inspector Canvas, especially during half term. We do also agree that wayfinding can be an issue due to the nature of the house and that it was built in two parts. Any feedback on this is greatly appreciated as we aim to continually improve on creating a great visitor experience.

Didn’t know if this but spotted it when up at the observatory, just a few minutes walk through Greenwich Park and it’s free to enter. Currently housing art exhibition but the former stately rooms are all named so you get a feel for the place. Free to enter

We are really glad you got to spot us from that amazing view up at the Observatory and we are happy you decided to pay us a visit and leave such a nice review. If you enjoyed both sites why not think about getting a membership, which gets you access to our other sites, the National Maritime Museum and Cutty Sark as well as special exhibitions and deals on other events happening onsite.

We visited Greenwich on a recent trip to London, and on visiting the National Maritime Museum (see my review), we were pleasantly surprised to come across The Queen's House, which is right next door.
The museum/gallery is a lovely place, fairly small when compared to things like the V&A or similar, but that works in its favour, as when it's not too busy, and it wasn't, you can just about see everything you want to.
The place is filled with artwork, tapestries, busts, and perhaps one of the best things is the Tulip Stairs - the first unsupported spiral staircase in Britain. Very picturesque and Instagrammable if you're so inclined.
When we were there, there was a harpist and a singer going through some practice, and staff were laying out chairs and programmes. When I asked about this, In was told that one Wednesday every month, they do a mini concert, free, you just make your way there at the appointed time and enjoy.
Unfortunately, we had a schedule to keep so we couldn't see this, but its nice to know that this is a thing that they do.
Well worth a visit.

I enjoyed this gallery. The house by Inigo Jones is interesting enough in itself, with the famous Tulip Staircase, but I was most impressed by the art collection which is far more extensive than I was expecting. Of course it has a lot of seascapes and portraits of ships, being part of the Greenwich Naval College, but there's far more to it than that. To name a few there are works by Hogarth, Reynolds, Lely, Jan Steyn and Turner represented here, as well as Rembrandt's Christ and Mary Magdalene at the Tomb on loan from the Royal Collection and the famous Armada Portrait of Elizabeth I. There are a lot of portraits of rear-admirals and rather more van der Velde's than I'd personally like in one viewing, but there's plenty else worth seeing including some great more modern works.

Thanks for taking the time to leave such a great review, we are really pleased to hear you loved not just the architecture but our extensive collection. While we do love them we are not a part of the Naval College, we are affiliated with Royal Museums Greenwich which encompasses the National Maritime Museum, the Cutty Sark and the Royal Observatory.
So we do recommend coming back and visiting our other sites and exploring more of our collection. We also have many different types of membership to support this so do check the website and again, many thanks for your enthusiastic review.

Admission to the house is free of charge. The WIFI was easy to access, I had the Smartify app on my phone to listen to an audio tour but couldn't get it to play. I asked one of the staff members but she didn't know how the app worked and was going to call her manager but I didn't want to cause a fuss.
On a warm weekend in September it wasn't very busy just a few people per room.
Beautiful architecture, paintings and loved the tulip stairs, you can't walk up them just down a short section. Lots of information about each display to read.

Thank you for the lovely review. Sorry to hear you had technical issues with the audio tour, due to the nature of the building it can be difficult to connect to the wi-fi and we advise in future to pre-download any content you may want to listen to onsite beforehand. But we are so glad that apart from that you had a great visit and loved the Tulip stairs, a personal favourite! Do come back and check the website as the team play host to a variety of talks and tours to enrich your experience of the house and the history of Greenwich.

Prachtig onderhouden huis. Toen ik er was, was er een expositie van de schilders Van Der Velde. Iedere zaal gaf informatie zowel over de schilders als over het huis. Het is groter dan je denkt met indrukwekkende hoeken, trappenhuis, schilderijen. Plus het is gratis.
