Its exterior is truly to admire. It was built in 1523 and was declared a World Heritage Site along with Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliament by UNESCO in 1987. Dedicated to Margaret of Antioch. We could only see its facade, I am not informed if it can be visited.

Adjoining Westminster Abbey on Parliament Square, St. Margaret's Church is an Anglican temple dedicated to Margaret of Antioch, a virgin martyr from the early 4th century (around 305). Founded in the 12th century by the Benedictine order, the Sainte-Marguerite church was rebuilt from 1486 to 1523, with some subsequent modifications including the reconstruction of the northwest tower, masonry work on the facades (in Portland stone ) in the 18th century, the addition of two porches on the East and West sides a little later and the restoration of the interior of the church in 1877 according to the plans of the British architect Sir George Gilbert Scott (1811-1878 ), with a concern to retain many characteristics of the Tudor style, mixing the perpendicular Gothic style with some influences from the Italian Renaissance.

This church has many names like, ‘The Church on Parliament Square’, ‘The Parish Church of the House of Commons’ and ‘The Parliamentary Church’. This is the second church built on the Westminster Abbey grounds which has some lovely Tudor features. The first church was built here by the Benedictine Monks during the 12th century. The current church was built between 1486 to 1523 on the orders of King Henry VIII. It is historic church because it has the distinction of being the last church that was decorated in the Catholic tradition, in London, before the Reformation Movement took off. It is dedicated to St Margaret of Antioch, a third century martyr. I loved the fact that people like Churchill, Mountbatten and Samuel Pepys got married here. Similarly we saw the graves of famous people like Sir Walter Raleigh, John Milton and most of Cromwell’s supporters here. A famous parishioner here was Chaucer. Do visit this UNESCO world heritage site when you are visiting WestMinster Abbey.

It was founded in the twelfth century and rebuilt from 1486 to 1523. It is a such a beautiful church. It is a medieval masterpiece, check out the details inside and outside. Be prepared to wait a lot to get into the church...

On the Westminster grounds next to the Cathedral is a small church that looks somewhat out of places by those buildings that tower over it as the Governmental and Religious centers of London. However, take the time to visit this church to see some of the most beautiful stained glass. This church was first built in the 1200s but the current building was built by the Tudors around 1500 as the parish church for the Westminster area. As London evolved, so did the church. Today it is known as a wedding chapel for society weddings and members of Parliament. It is the marriage place of Winston Churchill and his wife. I visited while my family who did not want to see another church waited in line for Westminster Abbey. If you have someone willing to hold your place in line, take a visit here to see a beautiful, historic church.

First time visit. I usually attend services at Westminster Abbey. It has a more relaxed feel, a bit less "intimidating" yet almost as old as the Abbey. After services, it was pleasant to walk around to read the places and other features of the church. This is opposed to Westminster Abbey where everyone is rushed out after services.

This church is on the grounds of Westminster Abbey on Parliament Square. It was founded in the twelfth century by Benedictine monks to serve as a parish church.

There are a number of famous people buried there including Sir Walter Raleigh who was executed in Old Palace Yard and then buried in the church in 1618. The poet John Milton, a parishioner of the church, is also buried there.

My daughter and I went to Westminster Abbey, and when we were standing in the line to get in, we read the plaque about the church beside of us, Saint Margaret's Church. We are from North Carolina, and when I read that Sir Walter Raleigh was buried underneath the altar, I wanted to go in when we left the Abbey. It was beautiful inside, and it was hard to believe it started as a church for the poorer people! The BEST surprise was the choir was practicing in the front of the church! We did not get to go very far into the church because of this, but we could sit and listen to the beautiful music of the men and boys. As the choir director at my church, I was so incredibly happy to hear this wonderful choir.

Disappointing because it stands between Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliament . It’s somewhat plain in appearance.
