Otherwise known as ‘Dick’ Whittington the thrice Mayor of London is said to be buried within the precincts of this church. He is commemorated by a blue wall plaque. Although it looks much older the present building housing St. Michael Paternoster dates from 1966-68 its predecessor having been largely destroyed in the Blitz, whilst the first church on this site dating from 1219 did not survive the Great Fire of 1666. It takes its name from a street named Paternoster Hill named after the traders who sold paternosters or rosaries. The suffix royal is 14th century in origin named after another nearby street called Le Ryole, itself a corruption of Le Reole a town in SW France. In 1968 it was reopened as a mission to seamen. It has three striking contemporary stained glass windows designed by John Hayward.

It's hard to judge something from its outward appearance, but I had very little information to go on as I only saw it from a bus tour.

A beautiful service with choirs from Lloyd’s and a primary School from Teesside. Princess Anne read a lesson and socialised afterwards at the Skinner’s’ Hall.

St. Michael Paternoster Royal Church is a church in central London. The history of the dates back to 13th century, although the church had be rebuilt a number of time due to the Great Fire, financial difficulties and during the Blitz. The current building only dates back to 1968 and rededicated to Mission to Seafarer.
The stained glass instead are very pretty with a modern design with references to Christianity and Dick Whittington, the fabled Lord Mayor of London, who buried within the precincts of the church, although the location of the tomb unknown.

Church open, no one around. I was immediately struck by the four impressive stained glass windows.
Impressive altar and organ.
Basic pews, movable with a bit of effort, lightly varnished.
Tiled floor. Well looked after.
Church for the Mission to Seafarers.

The original building recorded as 1219 was destroyed in the Great Fire of 1666 and badly damaged during the London Blitz in WWII. Rebuilt by Sir Christopher Wren, the present building was restored between 1966-1968. The interior has three stained glass windows by John Hayward including one of Dick Whittington with his cat. There is also a memorial tablet to Whittington indicating where the site of his tomb was. This church is also the chapel and headquarters of the Missions to Seamen.

St Michael Paternoster Royal church’s original building (dating from the 13th century) was destroyed in the Great Fire of London (in 1666). The church was rebuilt by Sir Christopher Wren, but then was severely damaged in 1944 by a V1 flying bomb. The current restoration dates from 1968.
In 1423 Dick Whittington (as in the Lord Mayor of London) was buried here, but location of the tomb is no-longer known.
In front of the church is a delightful little square complete with seating and fountain; inside the church is quite tradition.
This church is the home of The Mission to Seafarers

На мой взгляд, это есть то, что я называю классическим английским стилем. Скромно но со вкусом. Если вы поклонник английского стиля, то обязательно зайдите - у вас это займет 5-10 минут, но удовольствие того стоит.

Down the hill from Cannon Street station this is "Dick Whittington's church" (he and his cat are immortalized in a stained glass window). The church has been restored by Whittington himself, by Wren after the Great Fire and again after WWII. A stunning church with a pleasant garden close by.
