Excellent Museum
aug. 2021
It has been years since I visited the Dorman Museum and I was pleasantly surprised.
The museum has a range of exhibits that cover the history of the town and the area, both socially and economically, wildlife and global ethnography.
The museum is immaculately clean and displays are clear and informative.
The fact that this is a free attraction makes it even better. In terms of detail and depth of display, it compares with the Yorkshire Museum in York but that comes with a price!

So much to see here. Good video of growth of ~Middleborough. Reconstructed cinema, pub, shoe and butchers shops etc. Amazing collection of stuffed birds and birds eggs. Good collection of local Linthorpe Pottery. Whole gallery of Christopher Dresser ceramics and metal items.

A great little museum. I pre-booked due to Covid restrictions. I was the only one there for a while, plenty of staff to answer any questions. Lots of interesting things to see, good parking to the side and behind the museum and lovely access to Albert Park

A quiet museum
nov. 2019
Located right next to the entrance of Stewart's park in Middlesbrough just in front of some World War 2 monuments and statues. Once you enter you don't have to pay but you the staff may ask you to fill out a questionnaire and return it before you leave. Despite the small size of the museum it is easily split into different parts, One section is filled with WW2 artefacts, including old weapons and German clothing; right next to it is a religious section; take a right turn and you'll enter a large room filled with stuffed birds of all different kinds. There's a section that shows life in the 1950s and a small cinema screen showing life back then. Head upstairs and you'll find a section on dinosaurs and early humans and our ancestors, then you'll find a large screen explaining the origin of the universe from the big bang and how the planets were formed. There's a section for kids to play and have fun, including a screen on the floor showing fish swimming on the floor and best part is, if you put your foot on the screen the fish will swim away from it. There's another part showing exotic items from other nations like vases and plates and even a genuine Samurai suit of armour and swords. You'll also find history of the UK in the 1920s showing things like the suffragette movement and Britain's involvement around the world; plus there's a gift shop at the end. While it is a small place, it's a nice place to take kids or go with friends for the day.

Great place to visit
feb. 2020
Really enjoyed this museum. I have lived in the Boro for years and never realised how much it had to offer and the history behind it. Some great exhibits and very well presented. Cant believe it is free to enter.

Been coming here for 50 years and that green dome makes me smile in anticipation of the life long favourites I'm going to see again. Some great temporary exhibitions also.

Amazing!

Being new to the area I thought I’d do some exploring and picked the Dorman museum as a place to start. I was amazed at how much they have managed to display in such a small museum. From archeology to wartime life to natural history and an ornithology collection. All well presented with good information about each object. I will be going back when I have more time to have a more in depth look. Well done Middlesbrough! As it is on the edge of Albert Park there is plenty of space for the kids to have a run around afterwards and although small, they do have their own free car park

Lovely little museum

I was killing time and found this little gem. Lots to see, reminded me of a Tardis, looks small outside but just kept going on and on, I spent 2hrs in there looking around. Then topped my day off by the beautiful little period care called “Dressers Tearoom” fabulous. I could have spent the day there 👏🏻👏🏻
