Excellent tour of the bunker today. Our guide Jake was very knowledgeable and engaging. He did a great job of balancing the grim reality of the purpose of the bunker with the dedication of the volunteers who staffed it. Sobering stuff but really well presented. Well worth a visit for anyone interested in recent history.

I have lived in York for nearly a decade and yet just discovered this! What a find -made fascinating by Jake who showed us around with a depth of knowledge and flair for entertainment. Well worth the £10 entrance fee. It is the only remaining such bunker in the UK and a less well known part of York's history. Thank you to those volunteers who manned it in the past and to English Heritage for saving it!

Awesome tour - wouldn't be half as good without the guide who was informative and funny and really brought the experience to life. I am a fan of the fallout games and this kind of experience is just epic - so amazing to be allowed inside these rooms though they do need to preserve them it really gives you an experience. The movie at the start was intense and anything nuke related seems to make me cry but set the scene brilliantly. Also going to pinch the colour scheme for my study. Amazing 😍

Given the current state of the world it is even more poignant to visit the only remaining nuclear bunker in the UK.
The tour was great, just the right amount of information; well done Jake!
It was really enlightening and shocking, especially how badly the volunteers of the Royal Observer Corps were treated.

Found this by accident, and what a find. Cost a tenner each and worth every penny. Our guide was very informative and came across with genuine passion in his subject. His tour was both interesting and funny. I will always remember Audrey and the thought of him trying to rescue the machine in case of fire. It also makes you appreciate the people who volunteered to live in these places for a month at a time in the knowledge that there may be nothing to come out to. Well worth a visit. You have to book in advance

Cannot fault the tour we had to, the guide was so knowledgeable and seemed to be truly passionate about trying to preserve the history of the bunker. Answered questions when people had them. Truly a unique experience well worth the money.

The English Heritage website is showing that it is open on Saturdays and Sundays in November. Remember you must book your tickets in advance, although we didn’t realise and just turned up. They advised they do allow a handful of walk ups so although website booking was full they let us in

Is it dog friendly?
Apologies, but dogs aren't allowed inside the Bunker - it's a completely enclosed space. Regards, Steve

Hi, the Bunker will still only be open at the Weekends until the end of March - then it will be open from Wed-Sun all through the Summer.

Is it open during week days in March
It's open at the Weekend through until the start of April, at which time it will be open from Wednesday through to Sunday. Private tours can be arranged (depending on a group size of 10 or more) with more information if you email us.

Can one park there?
There is residential parking at the Bunker and there are usually free spaces. There is also parking on the nearest road and a larger supermarket car park about 10 mins walk away. Hope to see you there!

Hi Kelly,
Tickets are £6.60 for adults, £5.90 for concessions and £4.00 for children. EH members get in free. There is free parking outside the bunker, do be sure to check the tour times before visiting.
