Located in Dean's Park is Minster Library ,a beautiful building that was originally The Old Palace in the City of York.
Housing York Minster's library and archives ,this building used to also be the home of the chapel of the Archbishop Of York and was built around the 14th century.
This great looking Grade I listed building certainly catches the eye when you're walking around Dean's Park ,very photogenic, makes for some great photographic opportunities ,it's most definitely well worth seeking out if you're planning on visiting the cathedral and park.

Minster Library is a very old library section of the Minster that if your into libraries is a must go destination but to me the best part of the library is the section of the Minster building, superb Gothic architecture that looks so pleasing on the eye, makes for some great photographic opportunities as does the whole of the Minster and the area around the wonderful cathedral.
Easy to locate on Dean's Park.

I posted a review of this lovely traditional Cotswold pub in December 2016. I took my mother and a friend for lunch in May and was very disappointed to learn that the lovely Sandra was no longer managing the team. The welcome from front of house was frosty. The dining tables have been moved to a dark room to the side of the lounge. In the lounge the seats are now arm chairs next to coffee tables so very difficult to eat from. My family used to love the lunch menu featuring proper meals. When we asked if there was anything other than sandwiches available we were told too many people visited at the weekends to be able to provide anything more substantial. Not the well run welcoming establishment it was.

An historic building comprising three parts built between the 15th and 20th Centuries. In the chapel of the old palace King Richard III invested his Son Prince of Wales in 1483. The building houses some of the most valuable books and is referred to as the Chamber. It holds meetings from time to time but is strictly a no access area. It is probably the only part that would interest you, unless you were a librarian.

There is a rotating display of old books in the foyer which at the time of my visit 18th an 19th century books on the birds of Britain. An extremely helpful lady at reception is very knowledgeable of the church structure and York and the Minster.

Yes I know it is a library and not all rooms are open to the public but spend a few minutes talking to the wonderful ladies on the reception and they will tell you all about it.

If you want to see a proper old-fashioned library, this is it. With books from floor to ceiling and with many different nooks and crannies. I went with friends and one said one of the main rooms reminded her of the library at Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films and I very much agree.
