If there's one pub I know I'm going to visit on any trip to York I take it's The Snickleway Inn,not only one of the oldest pubs in York but befitting such an ancient pub dating from the 15th century one of Yorks most haunted pub with at least five resident ghosts propping up the bar ,a very cool pub indeed.
I love the look of this pub ,a single roomed pub ,two cosy snug rooms,an eye catching serving bar ,eclectic decor and furnishings plus plenty of seating options both inside and outside in their beer garden.
We were here on a Thursday afternoon ,we ordered a pale ale from Bradfield Brewery ,these were served in excellent condition,we just kicked back and took in the great pub we were in.
My pale ale was really good,a crisp,well balanced pale ale,hints of toffee,a delicious aroma and aftertaste with a slight bitter finish to it which we both enjoy ,a classic British pale ale served in a classic British pub.
We really enjoyed our pale ale's in here before we moved on and as on every previous visit to The Snickleway Inn we had a great beer experience .
The Snickleway Inn is easy to locate along Goodramgate.
Opening hours are;
Monday to Sunday,open from midday.
Well worth checking out if you're in the area.

The Snickleway Inn is an unbelievable pub with a superb range of beers and is one of my favourite pubs in York.
The Snickleway Inn is an ancient pub that's housed in a fantastic 15th century building on Goodramgate and is supposedly one of the most haunted pubs in York.
With many original features throughout the whole pubs interior like it's oak beams and its immaculately kept woodwork and lots of other features far to many to mention on a review of this size.
According to the late Derek Acorah this is the most haunted pub in York with at least five resident ghosts.The Snickleway Inn is a superb pub and has had a few names over the years such as the House of Tudor then it was called the Angler's Arm's (This name is emblazoned over the main bar) and this pub reverted to its present name in 1994.I love visiting this superb pub as it's the only 15th century galleried inn's in York and this pub is very atmospheric.
We visited this ancient Inn on a six day city break in York but we have visited here lot's of times over the years.When we visited we had a pint of Bradfield brewery cask beer each which where superb and considering the pub we were in well priced.
This is a fantastic old pub and is without a doubt one of my all-time favourite pub's in York if not the UK and is well worth going to and really easy to get to just head towards Goodramgate.(This is my second review of the Snickleway Inn).
Opening Hours.
Monday-Thursday-12.00-23.00.
Friday-Saturday-12.00-00.00.
Sunday-12.00-23.00.

Friendly bar staff and a reasonable selection of beverages set the tone for a quiet drink on a cold November night. It would be interesting to experience its atmosphere when busy or on a music night although having its own Guy Fawkes kept us n our toes, especially given the city had just installed it’s anti terrorist barriers at the entrances to all the narrow streets. When he went outside for a smoke we were ready to duck for cover!

We visited The Snickleway for drinks late afternoon on a weekday and were surprised to find the place nearly full, with only one table spare to squeeze onto. It's great to see that pubs such as this are bouncing back following COVID. The barman was friendly and I had a couple of very well kept real ales, both from Yorkshire breweries. The pub has an interesting vibe with a wide range of people visiting and the use of bright red paint on much of the woodwork both inside and out gives an eyecatching view as you approach. The two or three small rooms and snugs gave a warm and welcoming feeling. We would certainly return when next in the area.

Lovely pub with historic charm. Great range of beers and welcoming staff. Loved the little nooks for cosy seating. The Snickleway seemed like a place locals go for a pint, which is always a good sign of an authentic public house. Well worth a visit and will definitely return when visiting York again.

Without a shadow of a doubt one of the best pubs in York and a pub I've been visiting for over 35 years .
The Snickleway Inn ,an ancient pub is one of the oldest in York and befitting such an old pub one of the most haunted, at least five ghosts 👻 are resident in this pub.
The pub itself is fantastic, multi roomed, a really eye catching serving bar dominates the main room, eclectic decor and furnishings, many original features are retained in the pub ,above the serving bar is a pub sign to The Angler's Arms alluding to a previous name for the pub,it was also once known as The House Of Tudor Pub, there's also plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub both inside and outside looking out onto the busy and bustling Goodramgate,its just a must go destination .
My twin brother Stephen and I were here on a Tuesday afternoon, we ordered a real ale each and chose a pale ale, these were served in excellent condition, we just settled back and soaked up the great vibe in this busy and popular pub.
My pale ale was really good, a rich,well balanced, full bodied pale ale with a big hit of hops, hints of toffee and a delicious aroma, on a hot afternoon a totally refreshing brew, it was just so good being in such a lovely and historic pub and enjoying a quality brew.
We both really enjoyed our pale ale's in here, only stayed for the one each before moving on and as on every other visit to The Snickleway Inn we had a great time.
The Snickleway Inn is easy to locate along Goodramgate,a street and area teeming with pubs and some amazing architecture and a major tourist destination.
Opening hours are;
Monday to Wednesday, Midday till 11pm.
Thursday to Saturday, Midday till Midnight.
Sunday, Midday till 11pm.
An absolutely stunning pub,most definitely well worth checking out if you're in the area or planning to visit York.
