Extremely easy to find from Robin Hoods Bay and we’ll sign posted. Mostly quite flat but this walk is steep in a few places and very slippery with a lot of mud.
I did this walk at the end of October. In winter for those not wanting a challenge (or summer for those with no walking boots) I’d recommend the Cinder Track instead. I’m not even sure if parts of the Coastal walk would be accessible in particularly bad weather?
A good pair of walking boots are required for this walk. Beautiful views tho and lots of birds to see along the way.
The track gets easier from just over half way when you’re on the approach to Whitby.
You’ll walk into Whitby at the side of the Abbey so no steep steps to climb, just a nice meander down into the town centre.
Allow 3-4 hours for the walk centre to centre its approx 7 miles.
The next day I walked to Ravenscar from Robin Hoods Bay on the Cinder Track in just a pair of old boots which was fine tho still a bit muddy in places.

Walked Robin Hoods Bay to Scarborough on the coastal path, I had read that it was strenuous and they weren't lying!! It was a lovely day we were blessed with good weather but and I hate to moan it was a little too hot for me. The views were spectacular and we've never seen so many butterflies. Reaching Scarborough we sat and enjoyed a well earned pint (or two!!) in the Scalby Mill conveniently situated as you come down from the tops. Two days later we walked Robin Hoods Bay to Whitby on another even hotter day but thank goodness not as up and down as the previous walk. In fact it was very gently, again lots of wildlife and more people on this stretch. Called in the reception at the campsite you walk through just before Whitby and had an ice cream, reasonable price and we were ready for it. The view of the abbey was great and lots of pictures taken before descending down the infamous steps and into Whitby for a well earned pint.

We did the walk starting in Station Lane, Cloughton. taking a left at the bridge on the old Railway and then around to the waterfall.
For acrophobia enjoyers, the whole thing is very doable. There was a bit of a moment on the stairs going through the forest which I found a little tricky to overcome. It is over quickly though, just take your time. And absolutely appropriate footwear. Apart from that, there isn't much to worry about. Some of what comes ahead may look daunting but is actually OK once you're on it and navigating it.
The waterfall itself is quite cool and the rocky pebble beach is pretty fun to visit. Watching the tide come in was pretty amazing to see.
We then came back up to the Hayburne Wyke Inn which was probably the best pub we visited on our trip. GF beer on draught was a great plus.

Our grandson wanted to visit Filey so was caught the bus to Cayton Bay and walked back along the coast path which as just over 6 miles. It was quite windy but there were some lovely views back to Cayton, and we managed to spot some seals too

We took a walk from Whitby to Robin Hood’s Bay with our dog, along the Cleveland Way cliff top path. It is well signposted and from St Mary's Church in Whitby to the top of RHB is 6.5 miles, and we took around 3.5 hours as we stopped a few times for water and a snack plus wanted to admire and photograph the views.
A few parts are steep up and down to cross little streams, so you need to take your time and watch the slippery steps and rocks.
RHB is picturesque with its quaint cobbled streets and alleyways leading down to the beach. However we visited Staithes (up the coast) later in the week and found it to be quieter and much nicer.
We did however have a lovely lunch and a couple of pints at the Victoria Hotel back up the hill before a final explore and then catching the X93 back to Whitby, with the dog allowed on board.

This is a part of Yorkshire I really must try to visit more often. The path is not too challenging and the stunning views are worth every step. Warm, July winds help massively.

The Cleveland Way offers some wonderful walking and views in the north of England.
We walked a 5 kilometres stretch near Lord Stones - there were some fairly difficult hills but the going was generally ok and the views fantastic.
Lord Stones cafe offered a great place for parking and refreshments.

We walked down to the waterfall from the pub car park after a light lunch. You need to be sound of wind & limb. Wear strong shoes & take it steady. The path is uneven & treacherous when wet. The beach & waterfall make the walk worthwhile. Take a camera to make wonderful memories. Worth the effort.

We walk the coastal section of the Cleveland Way in reverse from Filey to Saltburn by the Sea ( Filey - Scarborough - Robin Hoods Bay - Whitby - Staithes - Saltburn). 53 miles in total with a number of ups and downs to add a little more distance.
Very lucky with the weather as the forecast said rain most days and we only had it the once for a couple of hours.
We stayed at hotels and guest house on route and use Weather Goat Walks to transport our luggage (excellent service with daily text to say it had been dropped off).
We decided to do the route over 5 days which is what we had done previously 2 years ago. We had a great time doing this trek, meeting some lovely people along the way. if you are thinking about doing this then do and you won't regret it.
Great views, history, seaside villages and people.

Wow. What an experience. Walked from Helmsley to Saltburn across the moors, having done the coastal section previously.
This walk is extremely well sign posted and easy to follow. Walked the 65 miles over 5 days and had time to take in the detours to viewing points, roseberry Topping being an exceptional highlight.
Overnight Stops are more dictated by where there was availability but plenty of places in the villages, but note that across the moors you can easily walk for a few hours without any chances to eat or drink.
We had one day where the mist came in while on the moors but spectacular views on the other days.
Definitely worth every second and one I will probably do again

Is there anywhere to park in Kildale? Apparently you can only park in the train station if you are using the trains?

This is definitely the best time to see it in the spring and the weather should be good and the going generally fair under foot. That said this year so far hasn't been average so I would take your woolly jumper just in case also some water proofs would be handy. If you don't need them fine but based on the unpredictability of the great British weather its anyone's guess

Hello. We would like to walk a couple hours along the coast. Stopping for lunch somewhere then heading back to car. Do you have any recommendations of where to park and walk to with a pub stop? Probably 1.5 hours there and then take same route back to car as don't think there's anything circular?. Thanks so much. Really appreciate any advice

Cinder path from hawsker to Whitby, about 3 miles and fish and chips and pubs in Whitby. You can park up at railway cafe, don’t know how much . Or park in Low Hawsker village. Same route back.

We stayed in Robin Hoods Bay and only walked part of it, but we were talking to a couple who were walking an staying at different places. They had pre booked bed and breakfast along the way.

Can anyone suggest a good base to walk the Cleveland Way from, using a car and public transport to do the various stages but returning to the same base at night? I'm thinking we might need to stay in 2 separate places but I'd rather not use more than that if possible. Thanks.

Scarborough would be a great base, loads of places to stay. Choose the North side of the resort. You can walk the section if Cleveland Way from Scalby Mills to Hayburn Wye Inn or Ravenscar if you are a good walker and return on the disused railway track(good condition) about 12 to 15 miles. Food at Hayburn Wye Inn and old railway station cafe on return.
From Scarborough you can get the bus to Filey North landing and walk back to Scarborough about 12 miles. Filey is the start of the Cleveland Way. Nice cafe/cabin at half way Cayton Bay for drinks and Sanwiches. Enjoy I've done most of the walk now and all the Coastal sections.

The paths are all pretty well maintained, but you should be aware that there are a lot of steep steps and whilst I would say that you son will be safe (as long as you supervise him closely), he may find the path difficult.
