This is a varied museum with information about Oxfordshire's history, geography, culture and more. There are good explanations for the various displays. One interesting display was of various stuffed birds to be seen in the county. They were clearly marked as not having been killed for the purpose of displaying here. I also find the Roman and other early coins found in the area interesting.

This is an excellent example of a small, local museum which has made the best of its relatively small collection. The commentaries are succinct and informative and the displays of local industries – e.g. glove and furniture making are enlightening.
Beware if you want to pay for anything at the cafe with a First Direct Mastercard. Neither Google Pay nor any of our cards worked. I made a lengthy call to the bank, during which time my cappuccino got cold, but they were unable to solve the problem. Fortunately, I had enough old-fashioned cash to pay.
Later I went back to the café and pointed out that my cards/phone worked perfectly elsewhere. “Ah,” said an assistant, our machine doesn’t like First Direct cards.” “Then why on earth don’t you put up a warning notice to avoid embarrassment?” I replied testily.

not a lot to see but interesting nonetheless. Located in a house built in the 17th before Blenheim Palace, it had various displays and a small garden plus a good cafe with cakes. Exhibits were in chronological order starting with Roman times to Anglo Saxon and modern day collections. Extremely friendly at reception and most welcoming,

A well laid out and presented little museum, with interesting rooms devoted to the Anglo-Saxons, the Romans, and more recent settlement. There's also a library and a study room, but I'll have to try those another time. The staff were helpful and friendly.
The cafe was also very pleasant -- a perfect place to sit with a coffee and some cake by the museum garden once one's hunger for knowledge has been sated. There's also a "dinosaur garden", with plants that have changed little over millions of years, and a surprise to greet you upon entry.
Well worth a visit -- or many.

What a hidden gem of a museum, very interesting with everything from Victorian toys to skeletons , from farming to dinosaurs 🦕 from gloves to buckles.
We spent a good hour and a half walking around then, into the garden where there are dinosaur footprints that were found nearby.
A wonderful exhibition of photos of birds from around the world.
Nice cafe serving lots on offer, reasonably priced.
There is no charge to enter, but a donation is recommended.
On street parking, or if you are in Blenheim Palace a short walk brings you into the high street and very near to the entrance

Small but very interesting museum in the centre of Woodstock. The Victorian section was good with lots of information on conditions of ordinary people. The Treasures of Oxfordshire was enjoyable and informative.
Good selection of cakes in the cafe and the toilets were clean and tidy.

This is a small museum located in the centre of Woodstock and adjacent to the newer 'Soldiers of Oxfordshire' Museum, which shares the same gardens and grounds.
It is free to enter, but a donation is recommended, to help support the staff and maintenance.
There are some good rooms, with very rare and interesting artifacts, such as the Victorian, Anglo-Saxon and Roman ones.
Lots of interactive exhibits, and things to do for smaller children.
A self-serve library is also on-site and a cute children's soft-play room, with excellent interactive dinosaur heads.

The museum lacks much detail on Oxfordshire and is pretty generic. There is however a lovely garden, cafe and gift shop… and it’s free to visit.

Check their website. It says that they are open daily apart from Mondays (with the exception of Bank Holiday Mondays). It does not mention seasonal opening times but I’d recommend contacting them- the staff were very helpful when we visited earlier this year.
