I've wanted to bring my son to this place for a while. we decided to have a boys afternoon out. As a 3 year old I anticipated to be there less than 45 minutes. Roll on nearly 3 hours later and I had to pull him away to leave. There's a lot crammed into a small area. They have maxmimised the space. A great deal of things to look at and read for the adults and older children, whilst plenty of fun things for the younger kids. This includes plenty of hands on things. Such as a magneto creating a spark from a spark plug. A inside workings of a radial engine, Morse code communications.. not to mention the helicopter you can sit in, and the big Handly Page outside. The volunteers were very welcoming and friendly and the prices are very reasonable. £4 for an adult. £3 for a child with free parking onsite. We will be back!!
Thank you for putting together such a great museum.

Visited with our granddaughter who had a great time. All volunteers were very enthusiastic and welcoming and took the time to explain things to a 5 year old. Although there is no cafe as such you can get tea, coffee, soft drinks, crisps and chocolate biscuits which was a welcome surprise. Well worth a visit and we will certainly go back.

Its a small museum but they managed to squeeze in a lot of things to look at as well as the helicopters and planes. As with many of these places it is the staff who make all the difference. The lady making me a cuppa in reception and the gentleman in the museum showing the kids how some of the planes worked .. a hands on experience.

Having lived in the area for ages we visited this museum for the first time. We have been missing out. It is the most lovely place. The volunteers were fabulous and our 2&3/4 yr old grandson was made to feel so welcome. The volunteers helped show us all the activities and buttons to press. We had a fabulous time - he had a ball going in a small plane, a helicopter and then the bigger plane. The museum was small but soo worth it if you live in the area.

The phrase "Hidden Gem" is heavily over used in reviews. But in this case, it's the absolute perfact description of the place! Hidden away between a modern housing estate and a country park, the museum is very small but packs a huge amount in it's tiny footprint.
It's situated on what would have been the edge of the defunct Woodley Aerodrome with a couple of planes outside and a small building which doesn't look big enough to hold much at all. However when you step inside, it appears to be a Tardis as it seems far bigger on the inside than it does on the outside. It cotains several complete smaller airframes of planes and helicopters and a huge amout of other exhibits from aircraft parts, through to models, pictures and other items related to aviation in Berkshire. The displays tell the story of aviation and aircraft production in Berkshire and if you spend time reading and watching everything, you can easily spend several hours here. I learnt more here than I have in some bigger locations. Outside are two more aircraft, a rebuilt Handley Page Herald, which was originally built close to the museum's current site, and a Fairey Gannet which is under restoration. The Herald is currently the most interesting of the two as you can go inside and it has lots of infomation on it's history. The Gannet is viewable from a short distance but currently isn't safe to view up close.
It's entirely run by volunteers who are some of the most friendly and helpful I've met in a museum. There's even a teddy bear spotting trail for very young children plus some interactive educational exhibits including an excellent model of a sky van which will open and unload it's cargo while you watch. If you are local and thinking of taking your chldren to an aviation museum, this would be an excellent place to start and if they enjoy it you could then move onto bigger museums that are further away.
Highly recomended for anyone with an interest in aviation of any age!

Another hidden Reading gem. This museum is definitely worth a visit for all those that love all things aviation. We spent 4 hours in here but could easily have stayed all day!

had a bad experience today at Berkshire aviation museum, with my youngest (diagnosed "significant autism") he was having a bit of a meltdown, which obviously I was trying to deal with as best I could, when one if the guys came over and told me that they had "lots" of people coming in and was there any chance I could "do something about that" nodding at my son! Absolutely fuming!!

What a gem of a place! So much to see/do/learn about … too much to take in on one visit. A truly fascinating place, run by obvious enthusiasts who are so knowledgeable that they add an extra layer of enjoyment with their personal experiences and commitment. So pleased to have discovered it!

I really cant be sure but I dont see why not. It is not a busy place and mostly on one open floor. They are very nice people so I'm sure you will be fine.
