Nice market either way not only goods but also different crafts and articles. It was Christmas so it had lots of local Christmas decorations and crafts for gifts

What on earth has happened to the Bury Christmas market ? It used to be amazing, the car park in front of the Angel hotel, the bury ruins, a few lovely big buildings all full with beautiful stalls, mulled wines, lots of food, children's rides, a stage with singing it was buzzing with Christmas fun.
Now it doesn't exist but you don't find out until you get here as it's still advertised as having a Christmas market.
All it is now is a few stalls inside the Cathedral which isn't that big and it shuts at 4.30.
It's by far the worse Christmas market I've ever been to infact it's an insult to even advertise it as a Christmas market.
We travelled 1 1/2 hours got here at 4.30 as love walking around when it's dark with all the lights and it was already shut and the whole area was like a ghost town, shops shut, ruins and gardens shut absolutely nothing to do, complete waste of time.
Shame on you Bury St Edmunds.

Ah, dear readers, allow me to regale you with my recent escapade to the venerable Bury st Edmunds market, a place where the ebb and flow of commerce dances in harmony with the whispers of antiquity. Since my tender years, I have traversed its cobbled alleys, a loyal observer of its evolution. Yet, on this particular day, as the sun's gentle embrace cast its glow upon the stalls, I found myself pondering the market's current state.

Gloria, my envisioned muse and soon-to-be bride, joined me in my saunter through the labyrinthine enclave. Her discerning eye, keen as a falcon's, missed no detail. Alas, it was her insightful musings that illuminated the shadows shrouding my apprehensions.

The fromageries, a hallowed sanctuary for one such as I, failed to enchant as they once did. The symphony of aromas, while still enchanting, seemed to carry whispers of wistfulness. The aged comté, once a zenith of perfection, now bore the burden of underwhelming mediocrity. Oh, how I longed for its former splendor to once again caress my palate.

And then, dear Gloria, my beacon of insight, remarked upon the dwindling vibrancy of the market's tapestry. The artisanal crafts, once like stars adorning the night sky, appeared dimmer, as if the hands that wove them now labored under a heavy veil. Their intricacies, a testament to human ingenuity, now stood as reminders of ephemeral glory.

In the heart of this venerable marketplace, where memories intermingle with future promises, I stood with a sense of poignant nostalgia. The tapestry of time, woven with threads of tradition and change, had embraced me in its tender grasp since childhood. Yet, in the face of transformation, my heart trembled, yearning for the days when the market resonated with a vitality that now seemed to wane.

Let me leave you, my esteemed readers, with a melancholic verse that encapsulates my sentiments:

Amidst the stalls where echoes dwell,
A market's tale, once sung so well.
A comté's grace, now dulled in hue,
Whispered dreams, are they still true?

Gloria, radiant as the dawn,
With her, my heart had ever drawn.
Yet market's essence, shifting breeze,
Hints at wistful reveries.

Bury's market, storied and grand,
In its embrace, I've long been fanned.
Yet shadows fall on hallowed ground,
A lament for treasures unbound.

In conclusion, my dear companions of discerning taste, Bury st Edmunds market, once a paragon of resplendence, now gazes upon a crossroads of transformation. While my heart weighs with a hint of regret, I remain ever hopeful that the market's pulse shall rekindle, breathing life anew into its timeworn stones.

I visit Bury from Ipswich from time to time. Market is very good. Last week bought some apricots and tomatoes from the New Bury Fruit Company stall. Unfortunately instead of the £3,19 using my debit card was charged £31.96. On contacting the company immedietly refunded the full charge and apologised for the error. The kind of service you don't always get these days. Plus their fruit and veg is always good value.
Definitely worth a visit

I love Bury St. Edmunds and there is a wonderful market there.
However I do feel compelled to make a complaint regarding the Japanese Yakitori Suzuki food stall.
Myself and my partner ordered 2 Yakitori sets.
We sat and waited 20 minutes for these to be served, no problem at all of course.
When the dishes arrived the server on the stall said she ran out of chicken so served us 2 mashed up chicken balls on skewers smothered in sauce.
Just assuming that we would accept the served up skewers the server did not offer any alternative or our money back.
We carried on eating despite feeling very short changed because we were hungry.
When I look back I wish I had not accepted the servings.
The mashed up chicken balls were revolting and certainly the experience of this street food was very sub standard to what we were to expect. We have both travelled to Japan and what was served to us in Bury St Edmunds was an awful experience to go through.
The fact is that we were never told that they had run out of the food servings on offer on the menu that we had purchased. If I had been warned I would have walked to an alternative food stall.
Thankfully, we have learnt a lesson and now I will be very careful on eating at these street food stalls.
Very surprised to have experienced this in Bury St Edmunds.

Recently spent the weekend in Bury St Edmunds & had a wander around this thriving market, perusing the wide variety of goods for sale. A local market just how it should be.

What a total shame.
I come from Bury St Edmunds and like to visit.
I have visited the Christmas market on a number of occasions and regarded it as one of the best markets in the country.
Not any more.
I attended Bury with my partner for the weekend of 26th and 27th November 2022.
I had booked a hotel in January, taking a gamble, knowing what weekend the market was probably on.
Over the year I had a keen interest in what was going to happen in Bury and kept an eye on the website.
This resulted in learning that Bury was putting on approx 5days of Christmas activities around the weekend of our visit.
This did not impact too much for us as we were happy to visit anyway.
We arrived.
On the Saturday we enjoyed a good lunch at the West end brewery cafe after walking around the usual Saturday market. The Arc (local newish shopping centre ) sported a few wooden huts, supposedly boasting Christmas fayre.
The cathedral had a Christmas fayre of their own. The trouble was that the plethora of people that were ferried in by unscrupulous bus companies, who had advertised that Bury had a Christmas market, were trying to get into the Cathedral all day, massive queues, because that was the only event worth seeing.
While having lunch in the Brewery cafe, we witnessed bus upon bus passing, bringing more people in.
We had a good weekend.
But thousands of people probably didn’t, lost money and were disappointed.
Shame on you Bury St Edmunds.
Quite embarrassed to call you my home town.

Absolute Rubbish, with Christmas completely wiped out.
For some reason The Council have decided to completely rub out Christmas from the town.
All the Market areas from before have gone, nothing outside Angel, nor in the Abbey Grounds.
In fact other than the standard Saturday Market you would never know it is Christmas.
The excellent fair as previous years completely rubbed out.
There should be lots of refunds for l the people, like us who travelled 160 miles, for the mis information on various web sites.
We have been going to this event for some 10 years plus, never again.
Bury Council your should hang your heads in shame.
I cant add any photos as there was NOTHING to take photos of.
Absolute disgrace.
