I have wanted to come here for a long time, and the 50th anniversary retrospective exhibition by potter Jonathon Chiswell-Jones provided the excuse. Watts Gallery is brilliant. The gallery housing the pre-Raphaelite work by Mr & Mrs Watts and Willem de Morgan is exquisite. We arrived in time for a tour, which was very well led. The Watts Cemetery Chapel is to die for!

This was my first visit and what a treat it was. It really is a very special place with so much to see and experience. The friendly and knowledgable team of volunteers only add to the pleasure of spending time there. We will return asap!

Good little day out visiting the village which includes a home, chapel, cafe and galleries. The galleries were so impressive, I wish they were bigger! Well worth a visit, account for half a day.

This place is not far from where I live but I had no idea it was there. It was beautiful. I really enjoyed the Edo Pop woodblock print exhibition (this was the reason I came). They had a really good and varied display, including a Hokusai print of Fuji, some sumo prints, and lots of pictures of beautiful ladies.
Above the shop (which is packed full of lovely things), there was an Angie Lewin exhibition with some very pretty works based around nature. It was very nice. The shop upstairs had a nice selection of ceramics, Buddhas, and prints. I left with a stone standing buddha and a pot.
The sculpture gallery was interesting, and I loved the woodblock works in there.
I didn't have time to go to the house, but I did make it to the Chapel. It's just lovely.
There's plenty of free parking and a cafe which apparently serves lovely things.
I will definitely be back.

This Artists village is well worth a visit to see the Watt’s paintings and sculpture in the two galleries and the Limnerslease House where they lived is interesting accessed through a windy path a short distance away. Beautiful pottery on display although mirrors behind the pieces would allow visitors to see the artists work on the reverse of the bowls and plates. Indeed the description mentions the attention to detail of the artists painting the back! The same applied to pieces in the De Morgan exhibition.
In the Watts Gallery we asked where the laminated description sheets relating to a few paintings were. Frustrating to be told they’d been removed as the exhibition was constantly changing. We found them ourselves muddled up with others. Surely the guides could sort them? The Watts Cemetery Chapel has a real wow factor and definitely worth a visit. The Tea Shop mixed up our cake and refreshments order so we were served half ours and half the next table though after speaking to them this was sorted. The table was not cleared when we were directed to it and had to ask twice for it to be cleared and then wiped down. The tables are slatted and the staff member was spraying the table rather than his cloth so we had to move so he didn’t get it on our clothes. No smile and he looked very bored. The beetroot and orange cake had no beetroot flavour or colour and tasted mass produced, definitely not home made. The expresso and walnut cake the same. Very disappointing for the price. Will not be returning now we’ve seen it all.

The whole estate is amazing and much more than we were expecting.
The Limnerslease House is a must and is an ideal starting place for your visit since it provides an introduction to the people and the art for which they are famed.
Next on the list would be The Watts Cemetery Chapel, designed by Mary Watts and built with the local labour force.
Finally the Gallery which displays the artwork in all it's glory.
The only disappointment was that the Artis in Residence and Foyle Pottery studios were closed on our visit day.
In addition, Senior Citizens (over 60) are the only commonly recognised group that do NOT attract a concession in the entrance fee!

Saw there was a deal on with national lottery, if you get a lottery ticket you can get into the place for free
Got two scratch cards both winners, £5 on one and £2 on the other so I technically got paid to walk round 😂
Let's start at the main building, after you are given the ticket you are given a map on the whole place which I all to cock as the visiting places numbers direct you across the road and back again which serves no other reason that they think you will need a drink and food and spend more. I will come to that in a sec
So thr main building down stairs is normal over priced tat with lights pointed at it to make it look good, upstairs a nice little gallery bit nothing caught my eye at £2-3k price tags, there is a little side bit with a framing service and some prints to finger through but nothing to male me part with my money
Walking out past the restaurant was a little gallery with stone horse and things in, made more crowded then it needed to be with all the things hanging from the ceiling making pictures taking come to impossible at any decent angle
Walking round the seating for outside food you are taken to a large stone building with lead doors and this is a nice area, fresh, clean and staff are lovely, had a chat to a nice lady in there and took some pics of the stunning art work, take your time here and read the message below each pic the more you see the more it draws you in the more you understand watts when he painted it, remember to visit the little downstairs bit in the same building
Now time for some lunch before everyone else gets in there.
We prity much walked right in as there was no body in front of us or behind , but this did not stop the girl at the till asking us is it a table for 2..??
Had a look as the area and picked our table, it was clean and fresh, food was over priced as like anywhere you go but my chicken sandwich was filling, but I did order no tomatos so they went onto my wife's plate
Staff were moody, there was quite a large woman that could not even say thanks as I cleaned the table after we had eaten so staff could just pick it up in one with out having to clean my plates like I had just walked away ( I HATE THAT!!!) so I will always tidy up but this went over her head and as we walked out we were made to feel like they did not want us there and infact all the girls just looked pissed off not a smile anywhere and see you again soon as you can visit this without paying to get in
We made our way now to the home of the watts across the road. Walked in and was welcomed by a nice lady and the lady that was in the main gallery we were talking too joined us for a staff as she was bringing over lunch for the lady at reception
We made our way upstairs and saw the house it was all a bit underwhelming and boring they could have made it soooo much better took a few shots and made our way out the door.
As I said at the start will not be going back and more so at the £15 price tag so I'm happy I got in paid to walk round

Following my earlier review about the cafe which at the time of our last visit did not provided lunches apart from scones and jam (and sandwiches outside), a member of staff has now contacted me to say that the cafe is fully functioning again with their lovely homemade food such as jacket potatoes, Welsh Rarebit etc. and it is possible to have sandwiches in the cafe too.

I really like the Watts Gallery. It is very well maintained and the art is presented very well. When I went there was a talk by the curator which really added to the experience. As well as the works by Watts the main gallery also has a section devoted to Evelyn de Morgan, which I really liked. There's also a church designed by Mary Seaton Watts and the house where the couple lived, which is being brought back to its original condition. It's clear that a lot of love has gone into bringing the site back to it's best condition. I would very much recommend it as a day out, and particularly if you like GF Watts and Evelyn de Morgan's work.

Hello, My partner can be a bit unsteady on his feet, he walks with a stick, he also has a mobility scooter, are there any provisions for people with disabilities? Many Thanks, Hope to visit soon.

It is, to me as an able person, quite friendly for less able folk, as there is a lift from the main floor to other areas in both the Gallery and the house. I think one part of the Gallery would not be possible, but it’s best to ask the staff, themselves. I think the chapel would be rather challenging as it is up a steepish slope. It is very well worth a visit, though. I hope this helps.

Can you just turn up, without buying tickets in advance? Thanks.

Hi Jasmine
I would go into Guildford for a better choice or the Seahorse is great just outside.
Sorry for late reply- hope this helps.

There are so many great places to stay in Guildford which has a direct bus route to the Artists' Village.
Take a look at the Visit Surrey website for the best places to stay in the local area.
Best wishes
