Coventry Cathedral is dramatic and certainly unique. Amazing widows and light flooding into the building. Inspiring and certainly different from a traditional Cathedral.

Wow, fantastic to view both the ruin and the new together. The new Cathedral is majestic and exploring the different chapels a delight. Highly recommend a visit, but do double check their website. It was noisy for my visit as I was following on from a school service, I couldn’t avoid as only there for a day and didn’t want to miss.

The cathedral - old and new- are both awe inspiring. This is a must see. It causes you to reflect on the war and reconciliation. Explanations along the way are helpful and the organ music added to the setting.

Parts of the old cathedral are still standing after it was severely bombed during World War 2. The new cathedral built in the 1960s is tastefully done and the stain glass windows are magnificent. Well worth a ‘free’ visit.

We popped into the cathedral for a look around and it was really pretty. No much of the structure left from the bombing, but so glad it has been left as it is. We visited the little ww2 museum which was great. Very much enjoyed the short video on the history of the bombings in Coventry and how it impacted the community. All free to enter which was excellent.

It’s the end of July. Midday Saturday. Prime tourist season. We arrive for a long awaited visit to Coventry cathedral. But it’s shut from midday for a ‘private function’. How odd. But indeed, a couple have booked out both cathedrals for the day for their wedding and wedding reception. These ‘sacred landscapes’ as the cathedral likes to call them, hosted beer tables and a band in the old cathedral and served as a function suite with huge trestle tables going down the nave and guests all seated for fine dining in The new cathedral.
‘Sacred landscapes’. I think that’s optimistic. Function rooms better. Reminded of Jesus clearing out the temple from the money makers. But saw little sign of Jesus at Coventry Cathedral apart from a huge, hideous, mis-shapen effigy of Him at the alter, as we peered in through the windows past the wedding guests and their wine and dining.
You may want to check the cathedral diary before you visit to check for its hosting of wedding functions.

Ruins are impressive of the old Abbey. Not a Cathedral until after the GreatWar and then bombed in WW2. Tower remains and can be visited. Went into the modern but impressive Godiva building for a graduation ceremony

Went for an Ordination service, where one of the ordinands was a friend. Brilliant service. I haven't been to the Cathedral for very many years and it was a welcome return - things have changed since the last time I was there!

I’d forgotten how wonderful Coventry Cathedral is. I hadn’t been there for many years. I love the ‘modern’ stain glass windows. Vibrant pops of colour blocks - changes depending upon the daylight/sunshine coming through the windows. Look out for the 1962 pennies in the floor!
I’d recommend visiting the old Cathedral first to get a sense of history (and forgiveness) and then visit the new Cathedral, which brings a lot of joy and certainly changes one’s emotional state.

Hi there, dogs are welcome within the Cathedral Ruins if kept on a lead. Guide dogs are allowed to come into the New Cathedral.

Showing my ignorance now! Q...who designed the statue close to the Knife statue. I lived in Rugby and remember my mum taking in a couple whose home had been decimated during the bombing. They lived with us amicably until they received a home of their own in Staunton Avenue( rugby) My daughter and self are hoping to visit Coventry at the end of this month. Best wishes. Jean.

Re garden peas review I am guessing that you visited the cathedral the same week of your review. ~I know that Coventry University were holding graduation ceremonies that week which are held in the new cathedral with many going into the ruins too. Perhaps that may explain the litter. On 17th October I walked between the 2 cathedrals on my way to a meeting and the area was full of graduates and their families in the rain. Normally the ruins are in a pristine litter-free condition.

Car Parking, there is Parking very near to the Cathedral on a side street. Turn left at the side of the Herbert Art Gallery. Follow that little road to the end. New cathedral Ahead of you. Turnleft again and left again. Parking there is short stay. Enjoy!

Is the blitz exhibition at the transport museum still on?

Hi Pat, thanks for your question. The Transport Museum is separate to the Cathedral so unfortunately we can't assist with that. Their website should give you the information you need though.
As EximiousTraveller has stated above we do have a Blitz Experience here which is open most afternoons.
