Situated very close to city centre but I felt the facilities were lacking or maybe just none existent! Couldn’t find where to put rubbish off boat or water top up although I presume it exists. Attractive area and handy for shops etc

A nice spot to sit and enjoy a drink on a sunny day. The Canal & River Trust occasionally hold food festivals and other events here so check their website to see what's going on!

Improved since the last time we were here with a bit ore life than last time, the basin looked very tranquil on a nice sunny morning, you just have to imagine it as a powerhouse of the Midlands growing industrial strength, the vision of Brindley was amazing back in the 1760s.

The Canal Basin has been much improved over the last few years. There is Rudens Latvian deli, Gorety Portugese deli and Playwrights cafe, as well as a hairdressers. There have been a lot of events during the City of Culture and the Canal and River Trust are continuing the events through this summer. It is close to the pedestrianised city centre and the transport museum. Definitely worth a visit.

Der Kanal verzweigt sich hier, und daraus entsteht ein schönes Refugium für kleine Shops, Kultur und Erholung. Besonders lohnenswert ist der portugiesische Lebensmittelladen, voller Entdeckungen aus Portugal.

It is 25 years since we last visited the Coventry basin by narrowboat, and what a difference!! It was absolutely stunning. There are some interesting shops and it is all very attractive and tidy indeed. There is an excellent cafe serving delicious coffee, so it is a quiet haven in the middle of a busy city.

What a lovely morning I spent at the Canal Basin taking in the history and all the Canal and River Trust are doing, along with the Council to put it on the map and make it something worth sharing. Lovely little shops, (although not the craft barns as per the signs) take aways from th3 Portuguese shop and food from Playwrights. We'll worth a stop via boat or foot.

The Basin offers a very pleasant walk along the canal side. There's a few really good food shops - don't miss the nattas from the Portuguese one! There's a good little cafe that offers take-away service and a small garden area to walk around. On heritage/fete days there is a fantastic model railway exhibition and The Coventrian canal boat which offers short trips. There is also a canoe/kayaking club.

We were in two minds about a this detour off the Oxford Canal and a night in the Coventry Canal Basin but were glad we did it. The journey from Hawkesbury Junction is not pretty but is made quite interesting with a good guidebook e.g. Pearson’s which gives details of the buildings and sites of interest on the way. Some fairly tight challenging turns and bridges!
The Basin itself is well restored to how it would have looked in its working days. 48 hour and 7 day mooring are available. Despite being in a city it felt fairly secure with numerous CCTV cameras covering the area and many residential flats also facing it. An easy walk from here into the city for the cathedral, museum and shops. If you want something slightly different from the normal canal trips then it’s worth a visit!
Playwrights coffee shop is open from 8:30 most days located in the basin so if you are missing a good coffee fix then there’s another reason to go!

Walked the Coventry canal from Streethay, near Lichfield to Fazeley Junction, then across aqueduct 2 into Tamworth. The Canal takes you through the villages of Whittington & Hopwas. Nice countryside and canalside properties to admire. Through picturesque Hopwas Wood and onto Fazeley Junction. Local redevelopment on the canalside here for residential purposes. It branches here for the Birmingham & Fazeley Canal. We carried on our walk along the Coventry Canal over the beautiful aqueduct 2 into Tamworth where it gives you the out of town feeling. Reccommend a visit to all.

Hi there,
Yes there were boat rides advertised in the canal basin.
Sadly it was closed on the Sunday we walked up the canal and there were no prices illustrated.

Depends where youre coming from. If from the north exit M6 at junction 3 and follow foleshill Rd down to canal basin. From south
You'll have to use ring Rd and get off at Longford exit. Canal basin
Just off ring Rd on left.
