Recently, my sister and I decided to visit Lordington Lavender, a family run business set in the Sussex countryside after a word of mouth recommendation from a friend. Well what a pleasant surprise. We took my dog (after discovering that they are dog-friendly) and we made a day of it, having travelled from Surrey. There is something for everyone it seems, even for families with little children.

It is well organised with local signage to find the location, with warm and friendly staff on hand to welcome you and direct you around the farm. There are two car parks, one for disabled visitors and a main car park a little further away with tractor/trailer rides to the fields. There are good facilities, including a stall for refreshments with freshly baked cakes, a Pimms and strawberries stall, a gift shop (that I indulged in that sells all things lavender related e.g. pillow mist, soaps, creams, essential oils etc.), and an ice cream stand selling lavender ice cream which was a first for me and quite delicious. (They even had dog-friendly ice-cream though my dog was more interested in my lavender ice cream cone!) I met the co-owner, Rosie who helped serve me in the gift shop and advised me about their rather popular and beautifully scented lavender dog shampoo. (My dog's coat is now super soft and smooth with a lovely scent).

The farm is quite spectacular with row upon row of glorious lavender shrubbery giving off the most wonderful perfume into the air. The bees are out in force busily collecting pollen which was a joy to see given they are in decline. The views are breathtaking. We walked freely through the many rows of lavender taking photographs though for a fee you can also have their photographer take professional photographs if you so wish, which I might do next time we visit. I took many photographs and shared some on their instagram page.

My sister lost her bracelet which is hugely sentimental in the lavender field somewhere which dampened her spirit after a lovely day out, but thankfully someone was kind enough to hand it in and Rosie quickly replied to my sister's email, saving it for her in their office. What kindness and professionalism.

All in all, a lovely day out, a wonderful experience and somewhere I'd definitely return to next year. Even my dog enjoyed herself! Thank you so much.

First time here and don’t think I’ll go back…expensive to get in - £8 is excessive. It’s a field of lavender which is beautiful for the first five minutes. You then get offered over priced lavender products and ice cream at £3.50 for a single scoop…. It was lovely but not worth that…an expensive afternoon for a family of four…£50 + to see some lavender !

Enjoyed an hour or so here this morning after meaning to visit for a few years but not having scope in the right week previously. Very well run with signs for it along the road and lots of stewards organising parking in a huge field. You can then either get a lift down in the tractor trailer or walk. We enjoyed the walk and there was quite a queue for the tractor although it does take a good number at a time. Walking gives you a great view down over the lavender field. There's a mature main field and then adjacent rows planted more recently. Big marquee up the other side for shade and talks twice a day then food and drinks and products available down one side and hay bales for kids to play on to the other side. You can wander amongst the lavender, just don't pick it. You can buy a bunch if you wish. Millions of different bees enjoying the lavender but only a few butterflies, had expected more quantity, having been to Cotswold Lavender Farm a few years ago. But did see a couple of peacocks, a comma and a painted lady plus quite a few whites and meadow browns
Afterwards we went for lunch at the Barley Mow pub a few mins drive away for lunch and sat in the shady garden. Lovely morning out.

Could this be bettered? The smell of lavender, the buzzing of bees, the trill of birds . . . just a wonderful soul-enhancing place.

Visited here on one of the open days that they have each year. It's usually only open for one week to the public when you can visit. It's a free event but it does get busy. A great photo opportunity as the field looks as I said before, beautiful

We drove from Berkshire to come to this open event after seeing it advertised on Facebook. We saw some negative reviews on Facebook but decided to see for ourselves and we were pleased that we did. It was a reasonable walk from carpark to the farm, nice fresh air and exercise. The walk through the lavender field was lovely (yes there were plenty of people) and fragrant and a pretty sight. The charity stalls selling drinks and cake were reasonably priced and for a good cause. The products for sale were good quality and we enjoyed our visit.

Have been meaning to visit here for a few years now, so took the plunge. The event is well managed, and your car directed where to park. It is very uneven so not good for the elderly. Like other reviews, itis a tad dear at six pounds. A fiver would be better, and get you in quicker. There is only one field of Lavender by the way. Like all places in England, once you are in it is very expensive to eat or drink. We must be mugs to keep on putting up with this very british thing of ripping you off. But still glad I have seen it. No need to go again.

This was the second year in a row we visited Lordington Lavender during the one week each year it opens to the public. We very much enjoyed our visit, as did friends we went with. However, I know others whom were disappointed.

They open a field for parking. From here there is an approx 10 minute walk to the Lavender Fields or you can wait for a tractor ride. Unlike last year there was a long queue for the tractor but we didn't mind waiting. I think the event is getting more popular.

Once at the field you only pay for over 16 year olds which makes this a good place to visit for families with young children. As long as you accept that it's a place to go to enjoy the beautiful lavender, the stunningly picturesque view of it, the event of it the constant hum of the bees in it. Aside from the field itself there are hay bales to sit and rest on and stalls to buy lavender products or refreshments from. But that is it. One friend who went for the first time this year was disappointed b6 there not being "more" and said it just looked like a bunch of people dressing the kids in matching outfits and taking selfies- and there is a lot of that! But if you can ignore a lot of that (and you like lavender!) then I think it us a really unique and beautiful place to visit.

This year the Lavender had definitely grown better and was fuller and a deeper purple in many places. I think there were also more toilets this year which was good. There is very little shade and it was a really hot day so sun hats, cream and plenty if water were essential. We squeezed ourselves into the only bit of shade to eat our picnic this year and last due to have young children. This area isnt particularly pleasant so the lack of shade is my only criticism although there us a huge gazebo at one end with chairs to sit on and as a working farm I guess there's sonly so much they can do to create shade for one week a year. There was a talk on the lavender but due to the small children we didn't attempt this. Staff are all friendly and helpful. Overall I'd recommend a visit - as long as you realise what it is and is not.

Drove out to the fields in the hope of getting some nice pictures and sampling some of the things in the shop. Looked on Google and the opening hours bit said it was open at 9am. When we got there it was closed. Tried to ring via the number on the website, just got an answerphone message. I am sure the place is lovely when you can see it, might be a good idea for the owners to update/correct the details online.
