OK for a free museum

I don't regret going ( and it is free ) but to be honest for a city of Leeds's size it is a little underwhelming . Having a actual stuffed Thylacine was the high light for me although the fact they labelled it as a Tasmanian wolf ( not even the common term Tiger ) was a bit disappointing. Maybe the people running it should visit Liverpool Belfast or even Bristol to see what can be done

I visited the museum duringeeds Light Night. I only visited two exhibitions. One with pictures of insects and another with animals. The animals exhibit seemed really cool. Hopefully I'll get to see more on my next visit

Interesting museum to visit there are 4 floors each one having a different theme, the staff on the door greeted me and was helpful telling me what was on each floor, its worth it as it costs nothing to get in

Fab museum , lots to see and do in s lovely building , we had a nice half day here. The cafe is not badly priced either , the kids spent their pocket money in the shop , as there were lots of smaller bits n bobs to buy!

THE BUILDING.

Built as the Leeds Institute, opened 1868.

WHAT TO SEE.

To start from the lower ground floor, turn left at the reception for the inconspicuous stairs. Or use the lift.

Lower ground: a geological tour starting 4.5B years ago.

Middle floors: Leeds' architecture, Asian culture, collector's items, woollen industry, a history on mental health.

Top floor: Egyptian, Roman and Greek artifacts.

Great looking building
aug. 2021 • Venner
Leeds City Museum is a wonderful attraction in Leeds that unfortunately when I chanced upon was closed as it was quite late at night but I loved the look of this building.
Constructed in 1819 from designs from architect Cuthbert Broderick, it originally opened as the Mechanics Institute.
I love the look of this building, its such a stately looking structure, its a building that certainly dominates the square, when I visit Leeds again I am most certainly going to visit this museum and check out the great exhibitions, easy to locate on Millennium Square, most definitely well worth checking out if you're in the area or planning to visit Leeds.

Nice Museum to wander round
jun. 2021
We were visiting Leeds for the day so decided to have a look at the museum, there weren't many people there so easy to social distance. There are lots of interesting items and information to see as you wander around the different floors. There is a great Natural History section on the ground floor and you can learn about the history of Leeds and its industry and people on the 2nd Floor and information about the different religions on the 3rd Floor. Oh dear, I am writing this over a week after and forgotten what was on the 4th Floor, but I am sure I found it very interesting at the time! It is free to visit.

The whole place as a building is fine. But as an art gallery is very sparse. Lots of wmpty rooms with old pictures that have not been changed in a long time. Needs more vibrant life and artists. Het some syreet art in to fill up all tje empty rooms.
