Our party of 7 visited the City Varieties today, to see Beauty and the Beast. We had an absolutely fabulous and memorable experience. Our party included 3 small children and they were totally engrossed by the panto.

Beautiful and historic theatre, an asset to Leeds. The seat prices were very reasonable.

The panto was incredible and the cast were very very talented. All of the cast had great singing voices and they all played musical instruments. The choreography was excellent.

I would rate the City Varieties as 5 stars and strongly recommend it.

Absolutely lovely to be back in this iconic building for the Rock and Roll Panto - how we have missed it and it didn’t disappoint - kids loved it the music and the slapstick - adults roared with laughter with the carefully placed innuendo. Special thanks to the lovely lady who sat with my grandson after he took a shine to her and decided to sit with the staff !!!!!!

We went to see Geoff Norcott at the City Varieties and, just before the show, I stupidly dropped my phone down a deep, narrow gap between my seat (G6) and the box thing they do the sound/lighting from (sorry, don't know the technical term for it!). I was distraught and felt so stupid. I really thought my phone was gone for good, as the box thing was totally encased by thick wooden panelling. Well, the City Varieties staff could not have been more helpful. They arrived during the interval with a variety of long, thin objects and eventually managed to retrieve my phone. I could have cried with relief. We don't realise how much of our lives we have on our phones these days, eg access to stuff. As well as lovely staff, it's a beautiful theatre and the show was excellent.

I always visit here when I return to Leeds probably the only unspoilt or intact music hall outside London, as most were converted during the Great War to cinamas and dance halls as my late uncle malcolm Ross did in Whitby with his two music halls Whitby Empire and the coloseum in station Square. A very rare survivor of the 3 Leeds theatres that were this and the Grand theatre which I've visited many times in the days of opera North survive the saddest loss was Leeds Empire in briggate. It was a pleasure to visit and have b fast brunch in the Swan Public House beneath it on Swan Street guided tours are done out of hours and theatre opens in afternoon. There are regular performances of many eclectic plays dramas musical events to suit many tastes and good thought provoking drama too the stucco gilding on ceilings and galleries is Exeptional for a music hall and visibility for performances Exeptional whatever the quality of stall you have the, staff are wonderful and are only too happy to help show around there is, a great pride here and in Leeds of this place and so there should be it hosted many stars in the good old days which ran for so long in the 70s and pantomime too is a tradition here lovely place we both loved our visit and the hospitality of the Swan below food was good and so was the coffee and service

Went to see the Mark Thomas show last night [3rd Sept] after waiting like the whole nation with baited breath to be back out enjoying live entertainment - HOW WRONG WAS I !!!!
Unfortunately we left at the interval as we were on the ground floor and all we could here the 3 members of staff directly behind us by the small bar constantly talking with absolutely no intention of lowering there voices.
I did flag this up to a member of staff [a very large stocky foreign guy] who did reluctantly attempt to ask them to keep it down but this seemed to make them worse especially the older blonde haired lady [i think she was a manager]
As we left at the interval the coloured bouncer on the door asked what the problem was so I explained to him the show was brill but ruined by the staff!!!!
I'm guessing this won't change anytime soon!!!

Really loved it, had a fab night there. Nice venue and knowledgeable staff. Only thing that spoilt it slightly was a crazy lady who caused a scene insisting we were in HER seats. Fortunately an usher came a long and guided her to her actual seat, then we didn't have any more trouble .

Really enjoyed a first visit to this charming theatre in the centre of Leeds, to see Clinton Baptiste. Good views from most areas, as it only seats 467 people. Very friendly and helpful staff, it's a real step back in time. As with most theatres, the bar prices are steep.

This was our first trip to this location which is situated in a back street in the centre of Leeds. It really is stepping into the past as you enter with a very steep set of steps to get you into the upper balcony area. The staff were all friendly and welcoming although the seating is a little uncomfortable. The show itself was worth every penny with such a talented group of musicians and entertainers. The person who plays the dame was very good with just enough innuendo to keep the show funny without being risky (a little bit Frankie Howerd). Would we go again, deffinetly given the chance.
