We went on a guided tour by an amusing guide. The house has an impressive facade. The highlight of the house is the plasterwork. Also there is a collection of 18th century wine glasses. The house was stripped of its original furniture etc so the National Trust has bought in furnishings. The pretty garden includes a privy.

Were a little disappointed with this National Trust property, it is very small and not a lot known about its history, and none of the furniture actually belongs with the house. However, the guides were as helpful as they could be on what they did know.

We visited this NT property whilst on a day trip to Salisbury. It's right opposite the cathedral so was very well placed if you are visiting for a short time. Unfortunately their tea room is closed at present which was a little it would have been good to have a cup of tea sitting in the sunshine before our return journey. The house is very interesting with knowledgeable guides, definitely worth a visit.

I booked a ticket for Mompesson House on a whim the day before I was due to visit Salisbury and I am glad I did. I visited on a very hot 9th of August and due to the timed ticketing in place I had to wait outside, due to the heat this was a bit warm though on a cooler day this would not be a problem.
Our guide who gave us an introduction to the house was knowledgeable though I did not catch his name equally the staff inside the house were happy to chat and share their knowledge.
There is a little second hand bookshop and toilets but no café inside.
Well worth a visit especially if you are a National Trust member - the house is run by them.

As National Trust members we took the Tuesday 1pm tour round the house and were very glad we did as beautiful inside. The tours and information by the volunteers was very informative and they were happy to talk if questioned.
A pity none of the furnishings were part of the house's history but very in keeping with the time period.
The garden although small was very pretty too and I bought a book from the second hand bookshop!

Had a lovely tour round Mompesson this afternoon. Very friendly, informative and engaging guides. Beautiful tranquil garden. Only disappointment was to find the tea room closed. Understand why it closed during the Covid Pandemic but can’t understand why it hasn’t reopened now. For locals like us we would enjoy coming in very regularly, just for tea in a peaceful setting.

When we realised this was a city centre property with some parking issues we opted for Park & Ride, and were glad we did as that gave us plenty of time to enjoy much of the other wonderful things to see near the property.
The story of this house is very much tied in with the history of the cathedral green, and has a lovely atmosphere inside and in the town garden behind.
At the time of writing this property required pre-booking, 10 being the maximum being given the tour at any time slot.
It may be a covid consideration that a large chunk of our tour was from the green outside looking at the facade. The inside section of the tour all took place in the hall with an explanation "when you go in that room..." and when you go upstairs...". If we had any criticism at all we would have preferred to go into each room and have the explanation relating to it delivered then. Of our 45 minutes visiting, 35 was standing still on the green or in the hall.

Our guide gave an excellent historical context for the house, the close, and the cathedral that helped our overall visit. Well worth a visit.

A lovely house to visit to have a good look around.
Lots of internal features to look at. A good and thorough introduction from the National Trust representatives.
The garden not as extensive and some other properties but as usual well tended and pleasant.
I'd say you'd need an hour for your visit.

Just four on this tour with all the NT staff giving their all. It’s well worth a look around and gives a wonderful insight to how the NT puts the life back into an empty home.
