We had gone down to Sailsbury to see our good friend in Gugge 2000 and after they had finished my wife wanted to walk around to the cathedral
On route I remembered the house was in the square so we took a slight detour and went in for a visit
Lovely greeting at front door and fully explained what was on offer, the house is small but well presented, look out for the false doorways-used to make the house look bigger than it is, pleasant garden and the tea room looked to be well presented, we were to late for any refreshments which was a shame, book shop is excellent and very well presented
Not masses to look at but if we had been in earlier we would have sat in the garden and relaxed in the summer sun

A most enjoyable visit, giving a view onto comfortable lives of the well-to-do down the centuries. It has had numerous owners with each leaving their imprint and resulting in today’s grand abode.
Lovely furnished rooms of all kinds are here. Numerous artworks are on the walls and items such as ornate clocks reflect the grandeur.
A tranquil garden replete with greenery is pleasant to stroll around.

I particularly liked the mouldings on the ceiling and the walls. They added some flair and elegance to the house. Furnishings were nice, although like many other houses they were not originals, but period pieces added to an empty house to simulate what it would look like in its day. It works for me. My wife and I particularly liked the false doors added to make the house seem bigger than it was, as the staffer pointed out was part of the grand plan of the owners to impress visitors to the house. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable, as they were in Arundells, very close by. It always makes for a more enjoyable and informative visit. The garden was very pretty, although not as big as Arundells, nor did it possess that wonderful view of the cathedral. It had a tiny place to get drinks, sandwiches and other things to munch on. My wife and I did not avail ourselves of its wares and thus cannot comment on the quality of offerings. Again, like Arundells, I spent more time than I originally anticipated, although much less than Arundells. Less chatting. If you did no chatting, you could probably do both houses in an hour or even less. All in all, we had another enjoyable experience in our stay in Salisbury, which is a nice, relaxing and fun place to visit. It has oodles of history, plenty of restaurants and interesting walks. If you do go, try Wildwood for a very good meal. The best recommendation I can make for it is that we had three meals in 24 hours there, a new record for us and the restaurant. The food and the staff was the best we had in our 70 day stay in London and Salisbury. And if you want a lovely place to stay while in Salisbury, try the Riverside. Nice, extremely quiet rooms served by a very good staff. So go see Salisbury. It will make an excellent day trip from London. Or better yet, two.

Visited Mompesson on a rainy day, so the garden didn't look its best, we had a interesting talk about the house as in introduction, and then wandered round ourselves, its not the largest NT property and his been furnished by them from other sites, there is some very impressive plasterwork.

Visited with my wife. Lovely town house in the centre of Salisbury just opposite the cathedral. The staff were great, providing lots of useful information regarding the family who lived there, and the history of the property. Great story about the chandelier! There is also a small garden, a tea room and a very well presented book shop.

We were in Salisbury for a day prior to embarking on a cruise in Southampton. As we are NT members we decided to visit Mompesson House. Our visit coincided with a blossom festival. All of the 7 rooms were beautifully decorated with flower arrangements. The staff were really friendly, the garden is lovely and the small second hand bookshop is worth a visit. We picked up a guide to Salisbury's Cathedral Close in the bookshop and had a very enjoyable walk.

Grand house in the middle of town and right by the cathedral. Quiet, peaceful and tranquil spot considering the central location. Garden pretty and tea room cosy. Good bookshop. Informative room guides and a warm welcome. Very good glass collection in the dining room and all the rooms open have a lovely feel, leaflets in the rooms make a good read. Would recommend.

We stumbled upon Mompesson House - a National Trust property - when we were visiting the cathedral. The front was decked out in colourful blooms as part of a garden/flower festival. This carried through into the house which had numerous flower arrangements. Very well done and nicely integrated into the house itself.
The house is decorated in Queen Anne style (stucco etc.) and has some interesting pieces to view. There's only seven rooms but they're well done. There are volunteer guides in the rooms but, even better, there are multiple written guides available. Very well set out and, unlike some NT places, more than one person can read at the same time.
There's a nice garden and a cafe. We didn't go into the latter but it looked inviting.
Only seven rooms but worth a visit. And you get some lovely views of the cathedral from upstairs.

This is a relatively small National Trust property, but with an interesting history, as is the case with all National Trust locations. From the first floor windows there are great views of Salisbury Cathedral, just across the Choristers Square, and there are some wonderful paintings on the walls. The small coffee shop at the other end of a small garden has a limited but reasonable menu. The volunteer staff were well informed and eager to answer questions.
