Walk either side, in the city, to or from the city, for 5 minutes to hours. So much to see and enjoy, boats, canoes, the cathedral, the ferry, cafes, restaurants, walkways, woods, countryside, pathways leading to the city, to the countryside, the villages, the list goes on. However, if visiting the City it really has to be incorporated as part of the walk around. The river is almost bound to the City, the Cathedral, the University, all part of the history, geography, interest and enjoyment, beautiful too. Do one bit and sure to want to do more. So much to walk, run, cycle, and many pathways radiating from too.

Saturday 29th October we had just been to visit the impressive Worcester Cathedral. We left the grounds of the Cathedral, through a Water Gate which led us to the towpath along the River.
Alongside the Gate there were plaques on the wall, which recorded the date and the height that the River rose to. A bit scary to see some of the water levels.
We headed along the tree lined towpath in the direction of Diglis Hotel and a bit beyond.
There were a lot of swans huddled on the riverbank, there were many more swimming on the water. There is a Swan Rescue Centre nearby
The swans were joined on the water by a number of people sculling along the river.
We turned around and started walking in the direction of Worcester Bridge.
Just in front of the Cathedral there were some interesting red brick ruins along the riverside walk. There was no indication what the ruins related to.
One of the interesting features along the way is the Kleve Swan Statue, this was a gift to the City from it's twinned Town of Kleve in Germany, of which the swan is it's symbol. They have been twinned since 1987.
We were soon at Browns at the Quay where the South Quay Fountains are located. When we were here the fountains were working which was another feature along the riverfront.
Walking along we caught glimpses of Glovers Needle, St Andrew's Spire, the tallest building in the City. We visited here after our walk along the river, it is located on the intersection of Deansgate and Copenhagen Street.
Although it was a dry but dullish autumnal day and the river reflected the colour of the sky, it was a great way to spend a couple of hours.

I walked the river a loop from the Diglis Hotel to the Disglis Bridge back to the Worcester Bridge and back to the hotel. Nice easy walk, felt safe along all of it, met some lovely people to chat with and wanted to be able to do it every day.

A lovely quintessential British scene. Swans gliding effortlessly fishermen sit on boats patiently and a barge splutters, holds full, plimsoll line nearly breached!
Trees hang over, leaves drinking in the crisp cold river Severn.

Love place to meander around, walks along the canal. Locals have put a lot of effort with lovely flower displays and wildflowers.

Unsoipled and uncluttered river frontage, and, now that the pedestrian bridge is in place at Diglis, there is an enjoyable circular walk from the cathedral, over the town bridge, along past the swans to Diglis, then back up the other bank. It is possible to divert into town, off the river, along the Worcester and Birmingham canal, to the Commandery and beyond.

The Severn is the longest river in England. In Worcester, there are many opportunities to have a pleasant walk along the banks of the river. Don't miss the pedestrian bridge, which you can view from the main bridge leading from downtown to the side with the cricket grounds. The history of the Severn is also amazing.
