Beautiful Museum Worth a Day's Visit
okt. 2021
St. Fagans was lovely. It consists of a modern museum of Wales cuture, many homes, farm houses and community buildings in an outdoor walk/village, and the castle/home area and beautiful park grounds. We did not have enough time to see all of the modern museum, which we regret, but what we did see was well presented. Some of the refreshment areas in the "village" were closed but we did have a snack from the store and bread from the bakery. There is a cafe in the museum. Entry was free. We purchased tickets through a phone app, All of the staff members were welcoming, particularly the miller who shared his craft with us.

For anyone traveling from Cardiff, there was an inexpensive and very convenient "Easyway" bus fromWestgate Street KN to St. Fagans National History Museum and back. It accepted contactless payment. The ride was 1/2 hour one way.

Disappointed
okt. 2021 • Venner
I've wanted to visit St Fagans for ages. Luckily we checked before we left home and found that we had to book in advance. Fair enough but it isn't particularly self explanatory that you're booking car parking and adding the passengers in your car.
It's great that the actual entrance is free and it's a pretty site but we expected more to be going on. It's not that we didn't like it but with buildings closed etc it just wasn't a great example of living history . Tbh I think we're spoilt by living close to the Black Country Museum. You have to pay to visit there but it's totally buzzing with so much to see and do

Excellent, plan to be here all day. Very well organised for covid safety.
So much to see, we've been before and love it here. Lots of walking involved. Great place to visit

Autumn visit
okt. 2021
It was lovely to stroll around on a quiet autumn day. The colours in the gardens were lovely, we especially enjoyed the dahlia, the herb garden and the newish parterre beside the castle which has lots of ornamental grasses. We found the Windrush exhibition (which was what we'd gone to see) very moving; but "From the Future to the Past" was, we felt, pretentious, confusing and disappointing. The cafe wasn't busy and, although the service was friendly and we enjoyed our lunch, the kitchen organisation seemed to be a bit chaotic. We'll still give St Fagan's 5 stars though as it's a gorgeous place and constantly evolving.

What an amazing step back in time this is.
okt. 2021
This is an amazing place and it's difficult to pick out what the highlight of this visit was as there were so many. Allow yourself plenty of time as there is so much to see. We didn't and we are hoping to go back and see the bits we didn't get to see this time. The back up information and visual support is excellent as is the sign posting its difficult to get lost. We had lots of interesting chats with the staff in some of the buildings and this definitely added to our enjoyment. The main building was showing an exhibition of The Windrush era and this was really well put together and interesting. We also had lunch at the restaurant which offered a limited menu but it was reasonably priced and tasty. There is also a gift shop which time didn't allow us to visit this time around.

This really is a must visit attraction and the Country of Wales should be proud of this museum. Best of all apart from a car park charge its free.

We had a lovely visit to this museum. Lots to see with informative staff. Free but parking £6 per car. Great playground for children too.

No gluten free choice available
sep. 2021 • Familie
Food choice for my son who is gluten intolerant was ham with salad at an extortionate price . No baked potatoes etc . Gluten free bread is readily available as is gluten free pasta which could be cooked to order . Replacing wheat with cornflour is do easy .
Disgusted at beautiful new building with bad food options .
Vegetarian and Vegan are choices . Gluten free is a health requirement .
Even at the fish and chip shop the sausages had gluten . Had to make do with chips - not even tomato ketchup available.
Thankfully a very helpful lady working at the coffee cafe looked at the cakes and found a gluten free cake .

Love the park .

Thank you for your comments. We raised this issue with our Franchise Catering Manager and here is their response: Thank you for providing feedback on your recent visit to the cafe at St Fagans and I apologise that on this occasion you were not satisfied with your experience with us. Unfortunately, since the pandemic we have had major supplier issues regarding the transportation of stock to site which has had a huge impact on our catering offer at site. However, with this now improving we have been focusing on expanding our food offer as the visitor numbers have increased and have implemented a wider range of dishes to our menu, including gluten free dishes such as jacket potatoes, gluten free pasta bake, burgers and soup. The feedback that you have provided is invaluable to us to improve what we do and offer at St Fagans and we hope this instance wouldn’t stop you visiting us again.

Brilliant day out!
sep. 2021 • Par
Visited late September having booked the day before. Staying locally so walked there. No entry charge (but it costs £6 to park car + need to book car space in advance). We were provided with a site map plus a sheet listing what was happening in various buildings on the day of our visit as well as which of the buildings were closed.

We walked 13km around the site prioritising buildings we had not seen on previous visits. We found the guides were very helpful and informative. We wore masks inside all of the buildings.

It’s a great day out for all ages. Wear comfortable shoes, get there early and enjoy!

Excellent museum but…
sep. 2021 • Alene
There is a fascinating collection of preserved buildings and some really good gallery displays and it’s free to enter (there is a charge for parking). It’s fully accessible and there are reasonably good cafes and shops.

What I found really odd was the COVID pre-booking system which actually discriminates against public transport. I tried for months to pre-book over the summer but every week it was fully booked for pedestrian entry every day and yet there were car tickets available! I’ve finally managed to visit near the end of September and now half the buildings are closed!! What is more, the place is huge and empty. I hardly saw a soul all day and yet they still operate this mandatory over the top pre-booking system to “limit numbers”.

The public transport discrimination didn’t stop there. Firstly there is a busy railway right next to it but no plans for a station even when it attracts many 10s of thousands of visitors. When arriving on the local bus from Cardiff there is a need to log in with security so the bus drops you at the gate and then carries on up to the museum empty whilst I had to walk over 200m in the rain. Surely it should be possible to book in at the main museum?

While I’m ranting about COVID measures why do they have to stick big yellow signs in front of every historic building. Surely they could have used something more discrete that doesn’t spoil every photo.

On a positive note the rebuilt medieval church with its wall paintings and carved painted rood screen is magnificent. If you are lucky you will meet some of the enthusiastic staff members and learn a lot of history about the various buildings although some of the staff seemed to be more in the mould of sullen security guard than guide.

Why are staff not in period costume rather than modern uniforms too when you’ve gone to the expense of manning every building, and would it hurt to light a fire? This is what they do at Ironbridge and Beamish and it’s very popular, so why not here and surely one member of staff could patrol several buildings rather than lock them up if there is not someone permanently sat there. Surely theft and vandalism isn’t that bad.
