First visit in a few years and come away abit sad !!
I always loved coming here but this time was alittle bit of a let down !
It’s whitsun half term, a Saturday and over half the places was closed and unable to view. Which surprised me as it being a weekend and half term, it felt like it’s still really shut up for the winter !!
Even the sweet shop was closed.
I know the last few years have had a hit on everything but it was sad to see the tea rooms gone (not sure when this closed ?) cake and bread shops gone as well !
It seems like all the original attractions closing and being replaced with your normal run of the mill ice cream trailer and just a canteen food cafe !!
All the unique features have disappeared !
Hoping one day all will return ??

This is a really nice place to visit when there's good weather. You get to see houses from different time ages. There's also some nice gardens. Best of all it's free!

Friends of ours recently visited us from Spain. With this being their first visit to South Wales we wanted to show them as much as possible. During their stay we took them to St Fagans, a unique open-air museum near Cardiff. We paid just £6 to park the car (£1.20 based on 5 people sharing) and entry to the museum was FREE. Blue badge holders and motorcyclists could enjoy free parking. Annual pass cost just £30 for regular visitors.
When visiting the museum, it should be noted that ball games, drones, scooters, skateboards, bikes and so on including toddler toys are NOT allowed into the museum. Dogs are permitted in open spaces on leads, but they are NOT allowed in the restaurant, cafe, gift shop, galleries or museum buildings.
The park is full of restored buildings including a chapel, castle, school, working bakery selling bread, a sweet shop, post office and stone mill. There is also a row of terraced houses illustrating Welsh life throughout the decades. It should be noted that prams can ONLY be taken into the church, Gwalia stores and the Oakdale Institute.
As well as lots of historical buildings, there is also a farm where children can meet sheep, cows, pigs and so on. Other facilities include live exhibitions of basket weaving and love spoon carving for example, a children's playground, walking trails, a duck pond, an exhibition centre, a gift shop, designated picnic areas and a cafe.
We decided to eat lunch at the cafe which had an extensive menu including children's meals. I ordered a tuna jacket potato with salad, my husband opted for the burger and chips and our friends wanted to try traditional Welsh stew with crusty bread. Our meals tasted fantastic and were excellent value for money. We all thoroughly enjoyed the visit and our friends commented that this was a great experience for the whole family. We would recommend a visit, because this is a cheap day out especially if you bring a picnic, the museum was very clean and safe, the staff were approachable and the experience was unique.

I absolutely love visiting this museum it’s just very unfortunate that majority of the buildings do not allow pushchairs in there.
If you’re planning a day out here then regardless of the lack of understanding that some people do have children I’d still recommend you to visit, I do however advise you take a picnic or visit on a weekend when the chip shop is available. The prices are far too high and a second mortgage is needed if you’re wanting food in the canteen, even though the portions are tiny.

It is well worth a visit. It is well signposted off the M4. There is plenty of parking. The site is free but you pay for parking. There are a large number of exhibits from all over Wales. The guides were really friendly and knowledgeable. The toilets were great. We stopped at a cafe for drinks and ice creams. We also got ice creams for the dogs. The buildings were all so different reflecting various aspects of life . The shops were fascinating as was the Iron Age roundhouse

Plenty of parking spaces available including spaces for disabled badge holders and parents with young children. There is a parking fee of £6 which can be paid either by card or with coins.
Entry to the museum is free.
Maps are available to help you navigate your way around the outdoor areas. There are a great many interesting buildings to visit. Our favourites were the roundhouses and the little row of cottages that show how living conditions changed through the ages in Wales. We were also looking forward to visiting the castle however there were only 2 rooms open at the time of our visit - we were informed that the rest of the castle is closed as it was affected by water from the damaged roof. Despite not being able to see much in the castle, it is definitely worth heading over to appreciate the grounds at this side of the museum. There is plenty of seating dotted around and we chose to enjoy our picnic on the terrace overlooking the ponds.
Throughout the summer months there are often markets and old-fashioned fairground rides on the weekends (fees apply for these).
Even if the weather is not on your side, there are several indoor exhibits you can view if you do not wish to wander around the open-air museum.
There is also a cafe with plenty of seating and a good selection of items on the menu.

Cant recommend this place enough. Free to get in only £6 to park all day.
We spent from 10.00am to 5.00pm and did 20,000 steps!
The place is absolutely amazing lots to see and knowledgeable staff in many of the houses to give information and answer any questions you have. All the grounds are immaculately kept everywhere clean and no litter. We had no children with us but lots of play parks for children to enjoy. Cafe available and reasonable, lots of areas to take your own food and sit and eat. Totally recommend

Fantastic day out. We live not too far away and visit at least once a month with my adult son, who is a power wheelchair. This place is so accessible for us. Staff are always wonderful and helpful. The disabled changing facilities are excellent, they have two on site!! You put other places to shame you really do. Lots for the little ones to do as well, with the parks. Never tire of looking around the houses.

Im not 100% sure, try looking on their website or give them a call. You may be able to take a dog around the outside areas just not indoors.

Easyway 32A – stops in the main car park of the Museum. 320 – stops at St Fagans village. 321 – stops at St Fagans village.
I think an adult round trip was 4.20.... it's been about a month so I might misremember it, but it was around that price. The price is also posted on the outside of the buses in case you see a 32A driving around.

We will be without the car so would be grateful if you could advise the options for getting from Cardiff city centre to the museum?
StFagans
Cardiff, UK6 bidrag
You can catch the Easyway bus direct to the Museum from Westgate Street, Cardiff city centre. This costs £3.60 return. Please note, the last bus leaves the Museum to return to the city centre at 4.30pm.
