Absolutely scandalous prices at the cafe!

A slice of a sausage roll cost £7!! Think even the staff knew this was ridiculous, as they weren't priced, and when I asked for one the cafe assistant said "they're £7 by the way".

Sub-par baguette of cheese and tomato cost £6.50. Jacket potato costs £11. This is not a restaurant, so how they think they can charge these extortionate prices to people with families is crazy! Also the card machine went down, so people were waiting for ages to pay for their mediocre food. Chip shop seemed more reasonably priced but was closed at 3pm on a weekend?! Shame as it's a beautiful place - but take your own picnic.

I love visiting St Fagans. It has so much going for it - a beautiful wooded site filled with Spring flowers at this time of year, fascinating historic buildings, plenty of seating, toilets, parking ….. and miserable staff who seem incapable of interacting with the public. On today’s visit only 2 out of the 10+ staff we came across acknowledged our presence and greeted us.

In one cottage, I think it was Llainfadyn, the young girl stood in front of the fireplace looking at her mobile phone, not looking up once to talk to two very well behaved and interested children who were in there with their parents. Non-existent customer facing skills. Staff at Skansen open air museum in Sweden and the Hungarian one in Szentendre wear traditional costumes and talk enthusiastically about their surroundings, engaging with the visitors in activities and crafts. The attitude of the staff at St Fagans really detracts from the whole experience for me and, as a proud Welsh woman who wants to show off her heritage to visitors, makes me sad to think that many people will go away from this fabulous museum with the impression that Welsh people are rude and unwelcoming. Please make an effort, people! You might even start looking forward to going to work.

My favourite places from today’s visit were St Teilo’s church which is full of stunning craftsmanship in the carpentry and wall paintings, Llys Llewelyn with its colourful appliquéd hangings and the well-maintained gardens surrounding the castle. St Fagans is a wonderful, magical place. If it were filled with staff who engaged with the public it would be even better.

A very boring place. Yes, it’s free but that’s the best but. For young kids I suppose it’s a cheap day out but otherwise I wouldn’t go. The gift shop is nice. The cafe is party slugs except one of the staff was turning over the bacon with her fingers! Another was having a cup or tea which he spilt on the floor walking to the seat but neglected to tell anyone. I think hygiene & health and safety don’t feature high here.

Great place, 2nd time we've been to St Fagans museum. Free to get in! We visited on Saturday between good Friday and Easter Sunday, it was very busy, took 1hr and 20 mins to get into the carpark (one in one out). £6 to park for the day but free to get into the museum. Nice cafe, good choice of food and drinks. Kids loved the retro funfair. Staff were very knowledgeable about the history of the buildings and area.

We visited on St. David's Day! We spent several hours and felt like we had gotten a good overview of the history of Wales from ancient times to modern-day. The various historical buildings were marvels and having staff on hand to answer questions and tell you about the building truly enhanced the visit. The exhibits inside the were comprehensive and well-curated. We spent several hours but honestly, could have spent the whole day and still not seen everything!

2 nd visit after visiting about 10 years ago. Place is starting to look tired and run down in places. Two of the staff in the exhibits were certainly lacked enthusiasm to talk about what they were doing. Asked one, how long something would take the answer was as long as it takes ! But the rest of the guides informative and knowledgeable. Sad to see The Tannery in such decline due to newts. Surely the building could be tidied up and rotten wood replaced. Several houses not open. The young lady in the fish and chip shop was a breath of fresh air, engaging and clearly enjoying the job. The gentleman guide in the castle was extremely knowledgeable and a delight to listen to.
Not sure we will visit again and that’s s shame.

Very interesting place, full of history, it's amazing to see ye olde buildings from many years ago. I thought the food was just a little pricy, I paid £15+ for just 3 sandwiches. Definitely go again , best time is around spring time when the gardens start blooming

Really fascinating to visit the museum of wildlife for the first time in many years. Visitors alongside my daughter and husband as part of her history revision, found it absolutely amazing how much it is grown over the years.

The museum is very wonderful. And it wasn't just entertainment, they actually took historic buildings from all over the countryside apart brick by brick and reassembled them on site. It is well laid out with a lovely garden to walk through and active exhibits although some were not due to the time of year. Very educational and fun. Highly recommend with or without children. It also has a children's play area, which we didn't have. Very enjoyable would like to spend half a day or more. We will be back soon
