My family and I visited the gardens in the afternoon of June 19 2022. The castle is so lovely as you walk in and then under the most incredible arcade of trees. The owner, Mary, let us know that that it has been kept planted with trees for hundreds of years. You walk along until you reach the walled garden and enter a little piece of paradise. You can feel the love and care put into the garden. This is not just a tourist attraction, but an actual family garden. We had only an hour to visit before they closed for the day. That was plenty, and I mean that in the best way - teens don’t usually have a huge tolerance for garden visits. They were entranced and took tons of pictures of all the plants and flowers. We also walked around the outside of the walled garden through the wild forest paths which were so beautiful as well. Note, the car park is a little bit down the road from the castle, and it’s a couple minute walk through the arcade to reach the walled garden itself. Bring cash just in case for admission.

Have been meaning to visit for a long time, and was glad to be able to cajole others along on a beautiful sunny day. Lovely approach through shady woodland, and the walled garden’s truly like something out of a fairytale. It’s almost sensory overload as you don’t know where to look first. There are bountiful blossoms blooming everywhere , in almost all colours of the rainbow. And on these flowers are busy bees of all types ( and some were huge.) We were charmed by the overflowing floral trellises, the cherub fountain, the cooler & shadier orchard area, and the exotic flowers in the glass summerhouse. People have obviously worked incredibly hard to maintain this level of botanical splendour. As we were there for well over an hour soaking up the sun rays in a gorgeous garden we considered our fiver each ( adult price) well spent.

Came across this little gem of a castle and beautiful gardens while taking my 92 year old mother for a trip out of her care home. Were made very welcome and was able to take her on her wheelchair around the gardens. It made her day. Great place to visit. A bit out of the way but make the effort- well worth it.

Wonderful gardens. Dog and child friendly. Owners and gardener were around to talk plants. Lots to explore. Not spoilt by the fact it was a drizzly August day. All felt Covid secure too. Clearly put thought into how they were doing things. Would visit again.

The beech avenue which leads to the walled gardens is sublime and is a perfect introduction to the sights and scents of the plants within.

This was a wonderful place to spend a couple of hours on a lazy Sunday afternoon. The beautiful walled garden of fruit, vegetable, lawns and flowers is immaculately kept, with lots to look at and it was good to see the owners working on a variety of tasks. There is also a woodland walk, through the grounds of the historic castle to amble through at your leisure. The castle was closed to visitors due to current restrictions, but the garden admission fee of £5 was well worth it. Take your own coffee and note that some parts of the path are a bit muddy, but don’t let any of that put you off. What a hidden gem.

The gardens were beautiful and very well kept and the walled garden was one of the best I’ve seen. It’s set in a stunning location and it’s a must see if you’re passing near by!

I can't comment on the woodland walk as I didn't do it; I was, however, blown away by the walled garden. I am not a gardener and there is no way I would ever be prepared to put in the work required to create something so special but I am so glad that there are people who are. Talking to the owners, I was struck by their attention to detail. For example, they manhandled a heavy stone plinth to optimise its alignment with the paths. The ongoing restoration of the glasshouse was also impressive. All in all, the garden is a labour of love. For the visitor, it is a genuinely beautiful, restful sanctuary in which I could have quite happily whiled away my whole afternoon.

The walled garden was the highlight, very beautiful flowers and set up. Was absolutely magical. The wood path is a great place for a walk. The family seem lovely and were very welcoming. Would love to go back in January/February to see the snow drops

Absolutely beautiful setting, flowers and shrubs in the walled garden are amazing ,together with the specimen trees in the various walks such a tranquil setting, obvious how much hard work the family and their team have put into making this one of the most unique gardens I have had the pleasure to visit, not only the multitude of variety’s of flowers but the most amazing scents that surround you whilst walking around. Added bonus meeting the family at work in the gardens. Lovely walks surrounding the castle, will definitely be back when tours of the house begin again.
Highly recommended well done to you all.
