Whilst staying in Peebles we thought that we would go for a few short walks from the hotel. Neidpath Castle being one of them.
From Peebles it can be accessed along the river by joining the path by the bridge. It's a flat walk all the way to the castle.

As it comes into view there is a steep path that leads up to it on the right.

You can carry on walking along the river to get other views of it if you wish. We picked the steep path to go up. Only took two minutes and was worth it.

On reaching the castle it the area is really calm and peaceful with a few benches dotted around for you to rest on after arriving.

We obviously couldn't get inside to see around the castle as we hadn't booked a visit but that was our fault for not searching online for the castle before walking to it.

Due to that we just had a walk around the building admiring it from the outside before sitting on one of the benches and taking in the view now that we had climbed up from the river.

From the castle if you don't want to walk back down the hill the main road takes you back into Peebles passing a few local pubs on the way.

Well worth a visit but if you want to see inside book first.

Katarina met us on arrival and showed us around and made us feel very welcome.
Neidpath was our home for 3 nights, giving us plenty of time to explore and enjoy the castle from top to bottom.
Although we had seen photos online, nothing prepared us for the sheer beauty and size of it. We couldn't believe the whole place was ours during our stay.
Queen Mary's Chamber was warm and the accommodation comfortable and luxurious. The Highland Soap Company toiletries were a lovely treat.
We had a 4 course meal on our first night presented to us in our living room and there was a good selection of goodies in the kitchen for our breakfasts.
We walked into Peebles a few times - the walk back on the other side of the river proved challenging in places but enjoyable.

This was a unique and memorable place to stay. A magical experience. We didn't want to leave.

We stayed at Barnkin cottage whilst our son enjoyed mountain biking at glentress. The cottage was fantastic. We have two small dogs and the area around the cottage is dog secure and dog friendly so they can't run off if you let them out. The cottage was lovely and warm on arrival and a real fire just adds to the atmosphere. The area is lovely for walking and very easy to walk on the river into peebles. We will 100% return as the atmosphere and ambience of the cottage is one we are looking forward to experiencing again. Would recommend for families, couples or groups of friends. A real gem.

Due to all the Covid restrictions, our 40th wedding anniversary celebrations were cancelled for 2020 along with the rearranged holiday for 2021, so we decided to do something special here in the UK. As a result we booked a night to stay in Neidpath Castle as a friend had already done this and had raved about it. We checked the booking dates and our night was free so we booked a night’s stay along with dinner (this is optional).

On arriving at our destination we were met by Katarina where we were shown round the castle, including where all the light switches were, then we were handed the keys as the entire castle was ours for the night! You are encouraged to keep the doors locked though as sometimes walkers just go past and try the door handle. If they find it open, they often just pop in!!

It was just so fascinating with lots of history! We climbed the stairs to Mary Queen of Scots bed chamber and unpacked. (Note: this is a very old castle, so no lifts!!) We had a lovely lounge which had the fire all set and ready to go. Katarina lit it for us and left us with plenty logs to keep it going. The dining table was already set for our meal later that evening. You are encouraged to bring your own wine, so we popped that in the fridge to chill. The fridge is in a small cupboard off the lounge area where there is also a kettle and toaster and all your supplies for breakfast in the morning - everything you could wish for in a continental type breakfast, which included smoked salmon. Once the door to the cupboard is closed, you wouldn’t even know there was a small kitchen area there!!

The fire in bedroom wasn’t lit because of some sort of damage, but there was an electric fire on, and the room was warm. The bed, although a little on the narrow side, was a four poster and sits quite high. In case you are cold, there are hot water bottles in a drawer in the room. There is also a hair dryer provided.

The bathroom doesn’t offer a lot of privacy, being in a window space off the bedroom and screened by a heavy curtain, but it was adequate and clean and quite quirky with its copper jelly pan sink. Toiletries are supplied, as are the nice soft fluffy towels. There is a stand-alone bath with hand shower and also bath robes.

Don’t expect a TV – there isn’t one. We did find an Alexa device, and although it wasn’t working properly, it did provide us with a bit of entertainment. There are also books provided if you want something to read, including one on the history of the castle.

Prior to dinner, we had a walk around the grounds near the river, which was very pleasant. We also explored the castle, which has several floors to it. There are some lovely tapestries and there’s an area of the roof where you can get a view of Peebles nestling in the trees. The bed chamber is on the top floor.

Dinner was cooked for us by the chefs who came in at their allocated time, and it was delicious. They cook on the premises as there is an industrial kitchen in part of the castle. The only glitch was that we had ordered a cheeseboard, but the caterers hadn’t been told, so they hadn’t brought one. However, it didn’t really matter as we were stuffed full in any case and wouldn’t have been able to eat it! We were refunded that part of the meal extremely quickly, so no complaints on that front.

Because of Covid restrictions at that time, all the linen had to be stripped off the bed after our stay, and popped into a laundry bag along with the robes and towels, which was no problem.

This is a special place and perfect for a special occasion like a big birthday or anniversary. It’s certainly an experience that you will never forget. Put it on your bucket list!!!

We have had the pleasure of being given a tour of Neidpath Castle by its current owner, who was, of course, highy knowledgeable about the castle’s history and the people who used to dwell therein.

She thoroughly described every section of this mighty edifice, from the artfully-restored kitchen to the mummified rats, and I for one am highly satisfied with the experience. To my mind, Neidpath is to be recommended to all history aficionados.

Just back from our one night stay yesterday (Thursday 15th October) and wanted to let everyone know how amazing it was. We stayed in the Mary Queen of Scot chamber which is the accommodation within the castle itself.

....imagine having the whole Castle to yourself? Well thats what you get...you are handed the key to the front door and left to explore everywhere anytime that you want to ....and I mean anytime including in the wee small hours if you are brave enough (not us🤣). Our host Lulu gave us a brief intro explaining the facilities in the castle including tea, coffee, bread, breakfast stuff in the fridge etc. and left us to unpack, advising that our dinner would be served at 8pm by the private chefs of Chris and her husband Dougie...who were brilliant 👏 (this is extra @ £65 per head but can't recommend it enough if you don't want to cook yourself and you fancy splashing out if a special occassion...food and service was amazing).

We lit both the bedroom and lounge fires (everything supplied for you) then headed out in the cold for a walk around the grounds before returning to a cozy room. We locked the front door, climbed the staircase and opened a couple of bottles of wine that we took with us as they have no license and settled down for the dinner that we had pre ordered.

Later I decided to explore he colder parts of the castle on my own but promptly returned after bumping into a few bats in the upper tower. Over several floors the castle has a dungeon, ceremony room, kitchen, towers, attics, winding stone staircases that lead to different spooky areas that are all good fun to explore.

We did ask if the castle was haunted and although we were told it was, we both slept like a baby in the super comfy 4 poster bed and never heard a thing apart from the creaking floor boards when getting up for the toilet during the night 👀🤣

Amazing quirky old style accomodation that you can only dream of staying in so would definitely recommend and can't wait to go back one day.

Hope you enjoy as much as we did and massive thanks to our host Lulu and chefs Chris and Dougie 💙

We stayed at Neidpath Castle in Queen Mary's Chamber. My partner was over from USA visiting and I decided to book something special.
On arrival we were met and taken to the suite. We were shown the facilities available, given information so we could explore the castle on our own. Lulu settled us in and gave us a history of the castle. It was so interesting to find all this out and made us feel more excited for our stay. We were given the key and Lulu left us to explore on our own.
The castle is just simply stunning! The suite is beautifully furnished in a traditional style. The bedding is so comfortable and there are fires in the drawing room and bedroom that we lit and kept going. Extra heating was provided in the 2 rooms to keep it nice and cosy. I will attach some photos. Dinner was offered but we decided not to ans brought our own food. Its not advertised but there are kitchen facilities available if you need it... In the drawing room there is a pantry with fridge which was well stocked with our breakfast - smoked salmon, brie, oatcakes, fresh bread, yoghurt, cereals, fruit, chocolates, fudge, tea and coffee. We brought our own win. Plates, glasses all provided.
We spent such an amazing time exploring the castle at our leisure. I'm not going to say much about this as its best you experience this by yourself!!

Around the castle there are beautiful walks, town you can walk into in about 10 minutes if you want to do some shopping, go for a meal etc.

Please do not hesitate to book this. Its worth every single penny and its an experience that you will never forget!

I will definately be booking this again... Perhaps even 2 nights next time so we can enjoy this with even more time to explore.

An amazing experience all round. The suite was spotlessly clean, warm, cosy and Lulu was very welcoming. The tour is perfect, then she leaves you the whole castle to yourselves. Such a once-in-a-lifetime treat: do it!
