I visited the house for a pre-booked Halloween Tour. The tour was fantastic with lots of historical information about the house and surrounding area, alongside some spooky stories that tie into Scottish history and lore. The tour was run by Nicola who was fantastic and all the staff were lovely.
Trinity House is a beautiful building with lots to see. It would be nice if there was more information regarding the collections on display but the house runs guided tours so there is the opportunity to ask staff questions.
The tour ran with around 10-15 people which seemed a bit cramped in terms of covid but everyone wore masks.
I recommend anyone in the area to check the house out but check the website as you need to pre-book onto a tour and they are limited at the moment to specific events (i.e Halloween, Christmas).
This is a great find for people interested in maritime history or just lovers of historical buildings.

We had a brialliant tour of Trinity House with Adam on 10 March. A very interesting building with fascinating history.

We visited Trinity House Maritime Museum on Edinburgh's 'Open Doors' day on 29th September.

My wife was particularly keen to visit as she was aware that two exhibits had connections to her family on her father's side. These were a barometer and a sextant that were respectively made, and sold, by David Stalker of Leith who was her Great, Great Grandfather. He was a maker of chronometers, clocks and watches which he sold through his premises at 9 Commercial Place in Leith.

One of the staff on duty on the day was kind enough to get out the inventory of exhibits for us to view so that we could learn a bit more about the two exhibits that interested us.

Our tour of the public areas within Trinity House started in the cellar where we viewed a short video covering the history of Trinity House and its continuing role in modern day Leith. Then we visited a couple of small rooms on the ground floor then up the stairs past an impressive stained glass window to the large room on the upper floor that holds the majority of the exhibits.

While small this is an interesting museum that is well worth visiting when when it is open. I don't think that it is open on a regular basis however and that visits have to be booked in advance.

It is advertised that tours can be booked in advance, we did that to be told for the three days we were in the area the museum was unavailable for us to visit. With an interest in Maritime history this was hugely disappointing. The pre-booked school parties were not there all day so why interested persons could not have a 'slot' is difficult to understand. Sadly Leith seems generally to have obliterated most of her maritime heritage although a group of enthusiasts are trying to save the Customs House. Trinity House is now hidden between shops and high rise flats.

Must make a booking for a guided tour.
Lots to see in this fine if now crowded out building.
Leith has a special place in Scotland's Maritime history.
A Georgian gem of architecture and maritime history.

Hiermee werd vroeger weight and balance uitgerekend?

Located just down from Farmfoods (!) this building reminds us of Leith's maritime history. The upstairs room has plenty of exhibits and the room itself is quite impressive. Hope the pictures I have uploaded give some flavour of this small museum.
