We stumbled upon this wonderful house and park by accident. We were looking for somewhere to eat in Falkirk area, we saw a signpost for Callendar house and park. .We had a lovely restful walk in the park which was very impressive and well kept. We entered the House, which has a stunning entrance and we were directed to the tea room. We had our lunch here, the menu had lots of choice. I had tuna sandwich with lots of fresh crunchy salad and coleslaw. My husband had Macaroni chees with lots of salad, he said it was one of the best macaroni cheese he had in a long while. I also had the lemon drizzle cake which was very nice.
We then explored the house and all the exhibitions on different floors. I would recommend Callendar house if you have a couple of hours to spare to learn about the history in the Falkirk area

My family and I (husband and two children) were staying in Dunblane and decided to visit Callendar House on our way home. We are glad we did!
We were going initially for the park, but it was very busy so my children didn’t want to stay too long. We walked through the nature trail and thoroughly enjoyed spotting and hearing many wildlife.
We then popped into the House for a wander - my children are a bit young to fully understand the meaning of the House and the history behind it, but it was interesting all the same. The Georgian kitchen was very impressive and Megan was friendly and knowledgable.
We popped in to the tearoom to see if there were any tables free - unfortunately there wasn’t. We were told to try again in half an hour, so we paid £4 to use the bouncy castle and then went back. The tables were all still full, however Debbie said to come back in ten minutes and as soon as a table became free she would keep it saved for us. We really appreciated this as we felt she was going out of her way to help us.
When we got our table Debbie continued to serve us and what a lovely, friendly woman she was! She made us feel relaxed and we really liked her manner - she took the time to speak to the children and ask them about their holidays. She deserves a special mention!
The food was lovely - the children got a Nutella sandwich, fruit, a carton of juice and a cake. My husband and I both had soup (lentil, absolutely delicious) and a sandwich. And a scone! All very tasty and at a good price.
After lunch we explored the grounds some more and played on the flying fox (best one we have been on! I perhaps enjoyed it more than the children!).
We would definitely visit again.

My partner and I took my mum for high tea for her birthday. My partner and I are both coeliacs and intolerant to dairy - always a challenge and a worry when we eat out. HOWEVER, for the high tea Callendar House really were fantastic. The staff on duty were lovely and really helpful and the food... it was really something special. Often free-from food is a pale version of 'normal' food but what we had was fantastic. Even simple sandwiches were delicious but the cakes and scones were something else. It was also - for high tea - very affordable. Top marks from us!!

We visited for the first time having meant to for some while. The house is very imposing and impressive from the outside.and houses a museum and Falkirk Archives inside. The displays and interpretation are well set out over three floors. The old kitchen is very impressive and had a huge crackling fire going when we went in. The displays take you through the area's history from the start and particularly impressive is to be reminded that here was the cradle of the Industrial Revolution. You would need at least half a day if you were to read everything and try to absorb it, but we were there an hour and a half and felt we had done the visit justice. It would be nice to visit in summer to be able to explore the grounds at their best but well done Falkirk Council for providing such an impressive facility in difficult times for the public sector.

Great place to go out with the children. Museum is more interesting for adults than children, but there is a huge park around the building, with fantastic playground and woods.

Very good food and service in the tea room and the nauseum was excellent if a little disorientating. Good walks round the lake. And it was all free!

I visited with my family on a light rainy morning. However the grounds are vast and there are plenty of lovely walks and trails to follow whilst admiring the beautiful building and lawns.
Once inside (free entry) my family made our way around the numerous exhibits. We really enjoyed the Roman section and the Kitchen. There is so much to see. The museum was very clean and tidy.
My family booked a table in the tearoom online the night before so that after arriving at 10am we could enjoy a nice drink and some food. I was worried that the tearoom would be very busy but luckily I think we missed the lunchtime rush. Staff were polite, friendly and spoke to us during our time in the tearoom. We enjoyed sandwiches, coffee and cakes in beautiful surroundings.
There really is something for everyone to enjoy. My 9 year old daughter enjoyed following the Wally Dug trail.
In all we spent over 3 hours on site and really enjoyed our visit. I would certainly recommend a visit if you are in the area.

There is a play park on the same grounds which my 2 year old loves. Also a bouncy castles in the summer, they are in the same park as Callander house. The house is great to walk about with and a few things for kids to do in there.
Is there boats on the water for students
