For any fan of Macintosh and his wife, Margaret Macdonald, a visit to their house museum is a 'must do'. Set in a 'brutalist' enclosure, which mimics aspects of the original end of terrace house, the original layout, decoration and furnishings have been reproduced faithfully. The attendant I met was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. To experience their living arrangements, and witness the beautiful designs , was a privilege.

I loved The Mackintosh house! It was beautifully restored and really charming. The staff very enthusiastic and informed. Well worth the £10 entry fee. Sit and watch the video which is about 10mins before going into the actual house. It brings the whole project to life.

We've been Mackintosh fans for decades, even extending to buying some reproduction chairs for our home. Finding ourselves in Glasgow for a conference, this seemed an obvious destination for a visit. Both of us were tremendously impressed by this exhibit (and by the story behind its reconstruction). Here we have an entire house reproduced exactly as the Mackintosh's would have lived in it. It's a chance to see how their aesthetic works together at scale, and it didn't disappoint. So very different to seeing an isolated chair or table (as in the nearby Kelvingrove museum). Highly recommended.

I preferred this over House for An Art Lover. It was a short compact visit, but I enjoyed the layout and the pieces on view. The people stationed on the floors knew their stuff at the time of my visit. It's located in the Uni area and good to visit with several other museums in the area. Also, there is a main road nearby, which is quite vibrant with restaurants and shops. You could make it a day in this area.

I found the reconstructed rooms beautiful and modern despite being more than a century old! Be sure to Google Hunterian GALLERY and not museum or you will end up at the wrong place!

I have seen pictures of the Mackintosh house many times and watched many Documentaries and YouTube’s, and yet nothing prepared me for the surprise and delights from physically visiting the house today. What a special treasure!!! To experience their house, walking through their dark wood-panelled entry, standing in their “moody” dining room, and being “washed” in light in their living room is almost a spiritual experience. The magic of architecture is to experience its spaces. Photographs are too flat to tell the full story.
I thought I knew a lot about the Mackintoshes before I came to Glasgow for this visit. I even had breakfast at the Willow Tea Room ( designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh) this morning just to get myself ready for the House visit. However, the house still presented surprises and insights about the talents and genius of Charles and Margaret Mackintosh.
If you like art and architecture, you will not be disappointed.

Great experience, very immersive, no cord, we are directly in a Mackintosh interior since it is an exact reconstruction of a house that he lived in and decorated. The passage in the university in which the museum is located is a plus, it is very very beautiful!

We enjoyed our visit. It was impressive to see how ahead of his time Mr. Mackintosh was in terms of combining the arts & crafts aesthetic with modern architecture. Worth a visit!

Is there a bag check in case you come directly from the train station or airport?
Skrevet 22. juni 2018
Hi there, just read your question so apologies for slow response. I did not notice a bag check area; perhaps you could telephone to enquire. The staff were welcoming and very helpful so I imagine that they would be happy to look after your bag whist you visit this lovely gallery.

No, but try Kember and Jones on Byers road, 5-10 minute walk away.

How do I get there using public transport
Skrevet 5. juli 2016
Hi , can I do a tour today (Sunday) and is there parking nearby?
Chris
Skrevet 24. april 2016
There is plenty of parking nearby as the attraction is in the university. You can park on the nearby streets where most students/faculty members park their cars - it will be empty on a Sunday. I am almost certain that tours are open on Sunday but you can also confirm from the website (Uni Glasgow/Macintosh)

What are the opening hours for Mackintosh House and for the tours?
Skrevet 23. november 2015
According to the site that is linked from the Tripadvisor listing shows this information:
Open Tuesday - Saturday 10.00am - 5.00pm and Sunday 11.00am - 4.00pm.
The tours? You would have to get in touch with them. Contact email is: hunterian-enquiries@glasgow.ac.uk
BTW: I see there is a phone number on the Tripadvisor page, that is another option to get in contact.
A little bit of information I wish I had before I went looking for it: The "house" is inside of the University's Hunterian Art Gallery.
