It looks very grand from the outside yet is modern and streamlined within.
Plenty of study areas spread throughout the specialist sections and these were well utilized when I visited.
Good strong and fast free internet too.

The Mitchell Library is a jewel in Glasgow City's Library crown - an amazing building and endlessly helpful staff. Who needs Google when you can ask a librarian? One star off for the cafe, tho - it's great that there is one, but please, please - sort the coffee. It's execrable. And if the staff could manage to crack a smile once in a while, that'd be even better.

XXL thanks to Dawn for a wonderful Doors Open Tour of this green domed Glasgow Landmark. One of the largest lending libraries in Europe, its impressive exterior architecture is matched inside with a strikingly ornate Great Hall.
From older parts of the building with pre-Dewey index cards and old rooms fragranced with 'eau de volume' to the newer Reading Rooms, it was a total bestseller.
Lots of events going on in this vibrant community hub which also has a Family History Resources Centre , Glasgow Collections Archive and a CAB. Great cafe too.

The architecture of the building and how it looks takes your breath away and the amount of information and history it holds has to be seen.

We visited in May 2022 and were expecting a fine building and an older traditional library so were disappointed. Tourist guide books talk the library up as a tourist attraction but we did not find this. As a working city library it is probably fine and useful - we note other reviews commending its archives - but it is only a larger version of most competent local authority libraries.

My most favourite place to read books in the town. I have been visiting this library for last four years. It is always wonderful and quite.

The Mitchell Library has a wealth of resources including great family history archives, a theatre and fantastic library facilities. The building itself is beautiful and glorious when lit up at night.
Currently there is an exhibition of portraits of distinguished Women in Science. This is located in the ground floor, near the theatre entrance. I thought this would be both historical and paintings. However it is very topical with beautiful photographs of women who have excelled in Science, mainly in Scotland. A great and most informative exhibition. The photos are skilfully taken and of wonderful quality. Worth a visit.

I believe this is from the Gaelic, Ath Bruic – meaning ‘the badger’s ford’
My answer comes from being intrigued by your question and (spending perhaps too long!) looking around various internet sites. Amongst a lot of Celtic/Rangers rivalry, and then going to my Gaelic dictionary, I think 'badger's ford' is the best explanation for the origin of 'Ibrox' :O)
