The Glasgow subway is small compared to other cities, but convenient to popular sites and easy to use. There is only one loop that runs in both directions (see the attached map). You can buy either a one way or round trip ticket at the entrance to the stations.

Glasgow is a city like most others. It's easy to walk around or navigate the busses and trains. There wasn't a LOT to see. The cathedral is interesting. Some cool museums. Some great food. But we didn't need 3 days there.

Lots of historic buildings to see, we really enjoyed exploring this area. There’s a small subway which is a good way to get around.

We used to live in Glasgow 20 years ago but now only go there for gigs etc and usually to the city centre .. while off on holiday and having a free day we decided to go the west end but by using the subway rather than driving .. the whole system is tiny compared to other large cities but we found it very efficient and a quick way to get around . The stations were all clean . We got off at kelvinbridge as there is a specialist beer / wine shop near to the station that we wanted to visit , there are numerous bars and restaurants to suit all budgets .. as an area Definetly much nicer and cleaner than the city centre . Will go again soon for some beers and food .

Definitely worth a visit to the West End. Very nice area of Glasgow. Many historic buildings. Also includes lots of pubs and shops.

Spent afternoon here.
Nice time had by all. Very busy in parts. Nice going in and out of various shops in area. Would visit again.

Maybe a good idea for this area would be to allow children to be allowed in bars for at least a while in the afternoon without food required. The west end is so backwards it is unbelievable. Fine in Dennistoun. But the west end is anti children. Tried to find somewhere to sit with a drink for 1 hour before going to a restaurant to meet my father. My son felt like an unwanted individual as I asked bar after bar at 3 in the afternoon if we could sit for a drink. I have travelled a lot of the world and lived in Glasgow for many years. But it has to be said. The West end of Glasgow is not a family friendly place. Backwards is best to describe it. Could maybe look to the continent for ideas. Or maybe east. Not for familys.

We took the subway to see this area that is filled with restaurants and bars. One of the hidden little streets is Ashton Street.

I found the combination of Buchanan Street and Suachihall Strret offered a very goos mix of shops. Compared with some other towns in scotland, there was an attractive mix of well-known names, and others that were unique to Glasgow.

Is there parking around botanical gardens?

Hi, parking is not easy around the Botanic Gardens. You can park in Byres Road, if you are lucky enough to find a space. Some of the streets off Byres Road have parking meters which sometimes are quiet and very busy at other times.
Waitrose at the top of Byres Road, near Botanic Gardens has a parking area above the shop. Normally you can get parked there but only for a limited time. Not sure how long, perhaps an hour or two. The lift from the carpark takes you down into the shop, you can then get out of the shop into Byres Road.
In general, I can usually find a suitabke space but sometimes hou have to drive around to get one. However, Botanic Gardens and Byres Road are worth the trouble of parking.

I would like to know why there has been no hot chocolate available at this restaurant for the past four weeks despite the matter being reported to McDonald's and their franchisee Andrew Gibson. Is this the standard of service we can now expect under the Mcdonald name? I am having no success in my enquiries.

I wouldn't eat or drink in McDonald's as there are numerous coffee shops and tea rooms who would I am sure, make you a hot chocolate drink. We scots you know love to please.

Don't know your price range but I think that for European food Ubiquitous Chip near parking and underground would be good if a little pricey. Ox and Finch near Kelvingrove does sharing dishes which could work really well for a large group but I'm not sure if their seating arrangement would accommodate. Worth checking. If it doesn't have to be west end, can recommend Guy's in the Merchant City or Piccolo Mondo (Italian) in Argyle street Hope this helps.

Great western Road and into Byers Road are the two that I explored. Byers Road leads down to a busy area for bars etc. there are pleanty of hotels etc in this area. I actually stayed in a Hostel as I was working at the Games.

If you want basic ,cheap but well located the IBIS on west edge of the city centre is good for city centre and walking (if you're fit and a walker!) to kelvingrove/university/west end.
