Good afternoon
okt. 2021
An alternative to the city centre, plenty bars to choose from and a good atmosphere, nice shops and architecture and a good walk through the area. Interesting people to meet if you have the time to chat with some of them

An experience
aug. 2021 • Familie
Glasgow has lots of big talk buildings, which I love. But Glasgow City seems very dirty and messy. Central train station are reminded me of the city Gotham. Lots of people seem to be on drugs or drunk. Once a great city no doubt ,now appears to be decaying. But it opened my eyes so still an enjoyable experience.

A day at the Circus
mai 2021 • Venner
This review features the West End jewel,Park Circus. The magnificent architecture rivals similar type constructions in Edinburgh. Construction began in 1872 and the Circus is yet another example of Grand Victoriana. It is situated right next to Kelvingrove park,so you can easily swing by and enjoy this magnificent sight if walking in the park At 6 park gardens directly facing a park entrance you can see the former headquarters of the Scottish Football Association before its relocation to Hampden Park. An area jam packed with historic interest

Stunning river walkways in the West End
jan. 2021
Many people don't realise there are some absolutely beautiful riverside walks by the River Kelvin which loops around much of the West End - there are a great many different access paths down to the river from street level and back up again, meaning it's possible to go on a short walk, and interweave a bit of shopping with a gorgeous, relaxing walk by the waterways. For example, going down the steps at Kelvinbridge Station on Great Western Road and walking either direction - you can go a short walk to the back of the Botanical Gardens in one direction or, heading the other way, go through Kelvingrove Park, up to the Kelvingrove Museum at street level and loop back round to find yourself at the far end of Byres Road or, going the other way at street level, get onto Sauchiehall street and wander into town or down to Finnieston.

It's quite magical to be able to swap from street level to river level so quickly, and much longer walks are possible too. If you've about 45 minutes to spare, you can easily walk down the steps at Kelvinbridge, right through the beautiful park and university grounds and into the town centre. It's a very straightforward route - just ask anyone on your way if you feel a bit uncertain.

Definitely at street level in the West End the areas around Hillhead, Great Western Road, Downhill, Hyndland are all very interesting and vibrant, particularly on a Friday afternoon, when, weather permitting, loads of people of all ages gather in the outdoor seating areas of the pubs and cafes near the library end of Byres Road.

Byres Road suffers somewhat from being historically promoted, for reasons that are rather bewildering, as the West End's great street to visit - the 'heart' of the West End. It isn't, but it's the advertising that causes you to feel let down. If the street was just understood and advertised as a pretty normal main road with a few interesting shops in it, all would be fine and people would probably enjoy it more - either that, or the one end (at the intersection with Great Western Road, near Waitrose) would really benefit from a revival as it is pretty tired and dull but still okay and you can pop into Waitrose or quickly get into Ashton Lane or Hillhead area and the Bathouses and so on. The other end near Partick is much more interesting, with some diverse restaurants and cafes.

But Great Western Road, which intersects with Byres Road at the Waitrose End, is better by far if you want to find interesting shops, pubs and cafes on a main road with a bustle feel, but which quickly leads to very tranquil areas - there are so many interesting side-streets taking you into areas like Woodlands and The Park, all with stunning architecture and an overall great feeling in this handsome, very under-rated city that's by far friendlier than so many other cities.

Nice part of Glasgow
nov. 2019
The West End of Glasgow is famous for its beautiful architecture, charming, interesting shops, lively nightlife, parks and is centered around Byres Road. The neighborhood attracts a lot of people, many students studying at Glasgow University. People come here for shopping, lunch and meeting friends. Ahston Lane behind Byres Road is a popular cobblestone lane lined with many pubs, restaurants and Grosvenor Cinema where you can watch a movie over a glass of wine or beer. It is a district of elegant townhouses and many attractions including the Kelvingrove Art Galleries, the new Riverside Transport Museum, Botanic Gardens and Kelvingrove Park. The Glasgow Underground runs throughout the West End making transport to the City Centre easy and quick. The West End Festival, one of Glasgow's largest festivals, is held annually in June. Always great to be visiting the West End. It is a place full of energy . Don't miss it when u visit Glasgow.

Avoid!
aug. 2020 • Alene
An average, dirty street with poor selection of shops and you will have the misfortune of seeing lots of junkies and beggers.
Some ok coffee shops and a marks and Spencer. Could be way better and way cleaner.
Ashton Lane is so over rated and pretty boring. If you are going dont look down the filthy side streets on your way there!

Certainly worth a visit.
jul. 2020
Clearly the West End of the city is the favoured part in terms of both living and socialising, and it certainly has a lively charm about it. We took the underground to Hillhead, which is right in the middle of Byres Road and I instantly liked the cosmopolitan feel and atmosphere of the area. More to the point perhaps – we found a couple of very decent pubs, Tennent’s bar and the Curlers’ Rest.

Of course everyone praises Ashton Lane, so we had a look. As it was a quiet Wednesday evening some of the bars were closed, but even so I was distinctly disappointed. No doubt my expectations had been overly inflated by reading other reviews beforehand, and I expected it to be a bigger area than it actually is. And when you look at it realistically, this is a short lane with a well-known restaurant, four or five bars, and cobbles (wow!); hardly outstanding and no better than you could find in the corner of any decent city centre.
