A walk beside the river Clyde gives you a different perspective of the city - and a chance to admire the many different styles of architecture , both historic and modern, and the several bridges spanning it. It’s well used by walkers, cyclists and joggers - but beware the motorised scooter riders who go speeding past ( as I narrowly missed getting run into.) There are also swans, ducks & other wildlife to look out for - plus you can always find a quiet spot to just relax, and admire the scenery. After all “Glasgow made the Clyde , and the Clyde made Glasgow.” - so it merits a visit.

Walking beside the River Clyde is an understated pleasure in Glasgow. The river is probably much cleaner than yesterday with less industry and ship yards along its banks. There are about a dozen bridges than span the Clyde, each with a different architectural style and some are pedestrian only.

The River Clyde flows through the region of Strathclyde and Glasgow and ultimately into the Irish Sea. After passing through Glasgow it becomes very wide and there are some great views from the train on either river bank.
Within Glasgow there are many riverside walks you can take to admire the scenery.

This is a lovely river with some nice-looking bridges built across it.
It's good for an afternoon stroll, as long as there are no heavy winds.

The walk along the Clyde from the city centre past the TV studios of STV and BBC, with views of the Riverboat Casino, the Finnieston Crane, the Exhibition Centre, the Hydro and the Transport Museum is a great way to spend an hour or so. The river has a number of bridges across, some are quite funky in design, so you can easily cross from side to side. It’s easy to include a walk of the River Kelvin too before heading back into the city centre. Good walking paths, not too busy and great views. Well worth spending a few hours doing this.

An amazing river that runs through the city of Glasgow. Very interesting quay. I dont recommend you go for a swim but there are some pretty bridges. Good for a nice walk. When I am in Glasgow always is very nice to go for stroll along riverbank. When I'm in Glasgow I always like to take a walk along the river. So, if you are in Glasgow, I highly recommend walking along the river Clyde.

Walk from the Art Galleries & Museum (free entry but you have to book in advance during Covid restrictions). Cross Kelvin way and enter the park taking one of the varied routes through the park, heading away from the art galleries. During your walk you’ll see lots of wildlife and interesting architecture.
Cross back over the river as you near the end of the park and head across the road aiming for University Avenue. Walk up the avenue and as you reach the brow of the hill, enter the large gates of the university. Walk through the grounds and you’ll come to a point where there is a great vista over the city.
Take the road down to the right and at the bottom of the hill you’ll see a path to the left taking you to the main road. Turn left and you’ll soon be back at your starting point.

The river Clyde is so beautiful, the water is calm and peaceful. I love seeing the clouds reflect off the water, its very relaxing and breathtaking. There are points of interest along the walkway, the Albert bridge, the portland suspension bridge and la pasionara, i only walked a little of the way, sat on some steps and had lunch but I'm sure there is far more to see and i will make a point of exploring more but its lovely to just sit and take a breathe and this is the place to do just that!

As we were staying at the very good Village Hotel on the south side of the river, we had ample opportunity of exploring a bit of this modern, upmarket area of the riverside and enjoyed crossing the attractive Bells Bridge to view the likes of the Armadillo.
As pleasant as this area is however, my favourite part of the riverside in Glasgow is the area where the river runs through Glasgow Green. It was so peaceful and verdant and a wonderful place to relax while watching the rowers on the river and the abundant and diverse bird life.
