This, now famous, image is an impressive structure in a unique location. Built in the 13th Century and a stronghold of the Clan McKenzie. Destroyed in the 18th Century this structure is a modern affair but replicating its predecessor. A must see!

Stop closing early when your staff can't be bothered. When you advertise being open until 4, including the shop, it's not appropriate for a highly visited attraction to then close at 3.20. Castle is overrated. Boring inside

Fabulous castle placed in the amazing Scotland. I totally recommend visiting it. Such a great experience to visit the inside of the castle. Best photos you can take.

We stopped to photograph Eilean Donan Castle on our way to Isle of Skye. We arrived early-morning prior to its opening, so we did not tour the interior. The castle sits at the convergence of three lochs and is only accessible by crossing the stone arch footbridge. Definitely worth stopping for photographs of this picturesque fortress.

The castle is located in a beautiful setting. The inside tour is friendly and allows you to learn more about the history of the clan and the place. The staff is very welcoming and pleasant, whether at the parking lot, entrance or in the castle. There's a souvenir shop and a coffee shop.

Scotland is known, among other things, for its castles and its history. Eilean Donan Castle is another symbol of Scottish history. Very well preserved and located, it is another one of those places that has to be visited.

A must if you are nearby or even just passing through, especially on bad days ⛈️ very frequent unfortunately, Recommendation to buy tickets in advance.
Scenic castle renovated in the early 1900s, still used, there is also an audio guide that tells the story of the castle and the family, very useful, but not in all languages.
Also beautiful are the outdoor gardens, from which you can take really beautiful photos.
Paid parking area until 5 pm, quite large, and full entrance of services, souvenir shop and locker area where you can store your backpack (you can not bring it inside the castle) with £ 1 in deposit money (we did not have it but the girl at the checkout helped us).

Stopped here for a photo opportunity as the castle looks wonderful in its lochside setting. Stop on the way to Skye it is worth it.

The photos you can take of the exterior are just amazing. Big enough parking with machines to buy the entrance tickets at the gate (if you prefer).
Both young and older employees are more than willing to answer your questions, share an extra information or a small gossip.
The gift shop is quite stuffed, just missed the “Ghillie-dhu”.
Thank you Mrs. MacRae for the opportunity to see your family home ❤️

This photo spot is an easy exit off the drive by road. You have to pay for parking and visiting it early in the morning is best as the traffic is minimal and you can actually get a parking space. There is an entrance fee but I've read that going up to the castle isn't that interesting and not really worth the ~$15 per person to walk inside a claustrophobic, reconstructed castle. Nice outdoor barista and gift shop though the restroom is only a one-holer so if you must sit down be prepared to wait (and wait and wait). We snapped this photo, had a cappuccino, and moved on to Culloden, which was way more worth it.

Hello, are you able to cross the bridge to get closer to the castle without needing to pay to enter the castle? In other words, do you pay to enter the structure or to enter the property?
Skrevet 3. januar 2023
Nope, not without a ticket. That is the cheapest ticket that you can buy - it will get you across the bridge.

I’ll be staying in Portree, is is possible to ride a bus 927 then stop in the castle? And what bus stop? And If so, is it possible to leave a luggage? Thanks
Skrevet 6. august 2022
There is a bus stop at Eilean Donan but sorry not sure if the number. Lockers are available it not sure you would get a big suitcase in, maybe small hand luggage.
Enjoy your trip.

I will be visiting in November 2022. I am interested in taking photos from the outside. Is the castle parking lot open in November, and is it possible to walk around the castle even though it is not open for tours?
Skrevet 7. mars 2022
Why isn't there a booking page on the site? Is it closed? Do I have to ring? I need a specific slot
Skrevet 6. mars 2022
Hi, Do you have to buy tickets pre-visit? Or can they be bought on arrival. I can’t seem to find where to book them on the website and am guessing due to covid restrictions that you have to buy them before visiting. Thanks
Skrevet 16. august 2020
Tickets must be bought online but we did it at the castle. Luckily there were still some times available when we arrived. Times are well spaced to allow for social distancing so you practically tour the castle on your own.
Skrevet 25. august 2020
How can I get to the castle from Kyle of Locklash on public transport? Thanks
Skrevet 6. november 2019
There is a bus from Kyle of lochaish, you pick it up at the harbour slipway to dornie, bridge road end which is the fastest and cheapest option and takes around 14 minutes and the average price is £4

Hi, we will not make it in before it's closed on the 1st day that we arrive from Inverness. We plan to visit the castle on the second day. But our route to the hotel is passing the castle anyway, was wondering if it's possible to access the parking space and then take pictures of the castle and the landscape from outside after the visit hours?
Thank you so much!
Skrevet 12. august 2019
Unfortunately I am not too sure if the car park or area can be accessed after visit hours, i.e extent of closure. However you can get a view from the nearby bridge - great view, assuming you can stop at a safe spot. You can also walk down from the road to to bridge ( entrance to the castle ) and view the castle and surroundings. It is beautiful.
